  1. Let's say you live in Washington or Idaho or Montana - border state. And they're having a Civil War in Canada. The people are revolting against the dictator. From your house you can see a battle going on in the air. A fighter plane and a transport. The transport shoots down the fighter, but is damaged itself. The pilot makes a good landing - one of those that you can walk away from, but that plane probably ain't going to fly again. He makes this good landing in your backyard. Would you go outside with your arms spread in welcome - "welcome refugees from that horrible dictator!" Or would you go outside with a gun in your hands - "what the hell do you want??" This is the arc in the webcomic I'm reading. Instead of Canada, they're an actual another species of sentient beings, that lives in Lake Superior. They have people with the ability to do wonderous things - think Star wars and the force. The comic is about an eight-year-old girl - a member of this species - who is adopted by a human. And she is one of these people. They call them echoes. The girl's aunt - her father's sister - has just gotten married. And through the window of the church they see a laser beam come up out of the lake. https://selkiecomic.com/comic/selkie1890/ https://selkiecomic.com/comic/selkie1891/ https://selkiecomic.com/comic/selkie1892/ https://selkiecomic.com/comic/selkie1896/ And this one we learn that the refugee ship is carrying an echo. Who offers to help. https://selkiecomic.com/comic/selkie1897/ https://selkiecomic.com/comic/selkie1898/ The echo shoots down the pursuing ship https://selkiecomic.com/comic/selkie1899/ The refugee ship crashes https://selkiecomic.com/comic/selkie1900/ https://selkiecomic.com/comic/selkie1901/ And when the commander of the refugee ship goes into the church to seek help, she finds an extremely pissed off little girl
  2. You're right. Curly was bidding on Laurie's basket, and Judd was bidding against him. Curly ended up selling his gun and his horse to have enough money to keep bidding. And every time he raised the bid Judd said "and two bits". Thank you. That would have driven me crazy over the next 3 or 4 days.
  3. In the news article I read, cop number one thought that it was a silenced gunshot. They were there at a domestic disturbance, and the guy that they arrested and had in the car had threatened his girlfriend by showing her a picture of a silenced pistol. So I guess that was on his brain when he heard the noise. I still haven't figured out why he thinks he was shot. After explaining it all to internal affairs, they showed him the film from the dash camera, with the acorn landing on the hood. And he resigned, most likely from embarrassment. His partner did not resign. But I believe she needed to be fired. He yells SHOTS FIRED, and she draws her gun and does a mag dump at the car, and when she has fired off 10 or 12 shots or however many she had in their gun she then asks her partner, WHERE ARE THEY? Where are they?????? Just who in the hell were you shooting at woman, if you don't know where they were? They need to fire her. But so far they haven't.
  4. Two guys, who don't like each other. There is an auction, and Guy number one is bidding, and whatever he bids guy number two ups the bid - "and two bits". Just so the guy number one won't win the auction. So it would be something like guy number one bids $583, and Guy number two says "and two bits". That sound familiar to anybody? Last night I was watching UNCONQUERED. The American colonies, pre-revolution. Gary Cooper did not like this man who was bidding. And he would bump the bid. "And sixpence." The guy started bidding at £20, and he runs out of money at £110, and Coop says, "and sixpence". So he bought Paulette Goddard for £110 6d. He didn't want her, he just didn't want the other guy to get her. And that sounded so familiar. Bumping the bid like that. But I can't remember what the movie was. "And two bits".
  5. When Mama died, the hospice nurse made a list of all her medications, and then flushed them. But I'm pretty sure there is somebody here that works at a sewer plant, and has talked about stuff that should not be flushed - basically anything that did not go through your body first, except for toilet paper. No paper towels, no "flushable wipes" (because flushable wipes clog up the system - they aren't really flushable, they are just smaller). And I think he said you should not put medicine in the sewer because the sewage gets treated and eventually ends up back in your drinking water. But the treating is designed to get rid of bodily waste - not pharmaceuticals. So what do you do with it? I noticed the other day that my nitroglycerin said it should be disposed of after December of 22. Hmmm. Apparently it's only good for a year. Currently the little bottle is sitting on my kitchen counter. Should I toss it in the trash can? Open the bottle and pour them in the toilet and push the handle? Open the bottle and sprinkle them on the lawn?
  6. I guess you can take your choice. It would either be English, because England owned India, so that would be 9 mm Browning Short, or it would be Italian because the gun was Italian, so it would be 9 mm Corto.
  7. Kurz is German, Corto is both Spanish and Italian, and Court is French. All mean the same - short.
  8. A seven bore is 22 mm. 88 caliber. The smallest size on the conversion chart I was looking at was 67 bore, which is 41 caliber. Since he was shot with a 380, which is 36 caliber, possibly it is a 70 bore. And either 40 misread, or whoever wrote it mistyped. No, that ain't it. I just found another conversion table, and 70 bore would be 405. 100 moreBORE is .359 caliber, 9.14mm.
  9. I used to have a birth certificate from the hospital. Had an drawing of an airplane on the top of it. Because I was born in a Naval Air Station dispensary. I don't know what happened to it, but I would like to have a copy. I doubt getting in touch with the hospital would help, though. It's no longer a Naval Air Station. No idea if they still have records. When I needed a copy of my birth certificate, I got in touch with the state and I told them where I was born and they said no I wasn't. It seems that Lakehurst Naval Air Station is not in Lakehurst. It's in Manchester, which is not even in the same county as Lakehurst.
  10. I was wondering about mules and heat. According to the internet, mare mules go into heat, even though they are sterile and cannot have foals. So question number one, is do horse stallions want to mount mare mules in heat, because they smell good? Question number two is do mule stallions pay attention to either horse mares or mule mares when they are in heat, and wish to mount them, even though they can't breed?
  11. I heard, a few years back, of a guy who was listed on the birth certificate as the father. Was paying child support, because the mother said he was the father. He had DNA testing, and proved he was not the father. Still had to pay child support because the birth certificate said he was. Don't know if that's a true story or not but I'm pretty sure I read it in the newspaper.
  12. Do they make any effort to see if the information is correct? Or do they just write it down? Fiction. Boy meets girl, in college. Girl's name is Marilyn. When she takes him home to meet her family he's surprised to find that everyone calls her Mary. Nurse was hard of hearing. Good Catholic family name the first daughter after Mary, the virgin, and Lynn, daddy's little sister. Mary Lynn. Nurse wrote it down wrong. Marilyn. When she starts school the nuns told her that her name was not Mary, it was Marilyn. Three different fictions. Webcomic. Mother left father's name blank. Novel. Mother told them unknown for father. The movie I was watching last night. The girl didn't tell him she was pregnant, and moved to the other end of the state. She listed him as the father but he didn't find out about that for 6 years. And that got me thinking. Do they verify who the father is? Young lady has a baby and tells them that the father is Donald Trump and they write that down and everyone believes it? A birth certificate is considered prime proof of who you are. So do they make any effort to find out if the information you give is correct? You can claim American citizenship if one of your parents is American. Show the birth certificate as proof.
