  1. I had Army length grips on my USFA 1873 pistols for several years. They originally came with the standard Navy style grips, which I replaced with Army style grips (Uberti), including a trigger guard and back strap to fit the grips. I bought them from VTI Gunparts and installed them on the USFAs, which have the same dimensions as Uberti pistols. I reverted back to the original grips and sold the Army grips to a pard. If you don't want to go that route, you can contact Texas Grips (texasgrips.com) who sell extended grips for single actions that are 1/2" longer than the grip frame.
  2. It looks similar to one that Cabela's sells. A pretty heavy case, and wheels make it easier to move around. I don't have the measurements handy, but it is oversized and I know it will not load onto an airliner hold as it bigger than the maximum allowed.
  3. Like the books, the show takes a lot of liberties with facts.
  4. Had one, which was renewed several times. Don't need one now.
  5. Very little snow in this part of (south central) MN, but cold. The high today -1 dropping to -7 tonight. Worst part is my truck's battery or starter or both died. The truck is 8 years old and is garaged except for two nights last week. I think the battery is original. On the other hand, my wife's 2002 VW that has been sitting in the garage since October (except for a couple of days when I drove it), started right up.
  6. Yep. Look at the custom shop services on the Colt's Manufacturing web site. They will inspect your firearm before they start work on it, or return it without any work being done. Engraving starts at $1,650 up to $13,000 for a signed master engraved piece, unless you want an exhibition piece then it's P.O.R.
  7. A lot of that depends on the price. Expensive guns that are engraved with the previous owner's name or SASS number can be very difficult to sell, unless the name or number is well known such as SASS #1. I know of a bunch listed to be sold and, so far, no takers. Also, adding a couple of thousand dollars of engraving on a gun that sold for maybe half the price of the engraving seems like adding "silk" to a sow's ear.
  8. Do it the NY way. Stop the driver and give him $20. He'll probably push the load down the road.
  9. Moe Hardware in Black River Falls, WI. This is the only picture I could find, but there are plenty of firearms in the showcases, as well as on the wall. Found it while waiting for a friend. There are a number of small shops all over MN. My regular stops number about 5-6. Not a lot of old timey guns, though.
  10. There's a Fragon Hill Dave? Is that Dragon Hill Dave's evil twin?
  11. Back at you, Tom. I have a lead. I'll get back to you as soon as they call me back. No use in both of us leaving messages. Tex
  12. Tom, Scarcer than hen's teeth. I don't know if you checked, but I would call Colt first. I looked at different web sites, but no one seems to have that screw. I guess it would have to be machined. A couple of folks have sent work to Bill Fuchs at Spring Creek Armory and have been very satisfied with his work. His phone number is 307 431 9194. I'll keep looking, but if you find one let me know as I have a black powder frame Colt and I could use an extra. Tex
  13. If you're testing various loads for 572, as above, start at the minimum and then load 20 or so at one tenth increments up to the max at 5.6 grs. Going below the minimum as you mentioned will result in erratic performance and increasing the load to the minimum or one or two tenths higher will be unnoticeable. Twenty pounds of 572 at 5.2 grs, for example, will result in over 26,900 rounds. Five grains will result in 28,000 rounds. Probably way more than most CAS shooters will ever need.
  14. Happy New Year to you and the rest of the posse up in NY. Tex
  15. You don't need to use the wifi. Refrigerator and dryer are wifi enabled, but I never set it up.
  16. Spent a few times with him over the years. One time he and Becky were appearing at an outdoor store's summer exhibition in Pennsylvania. He had a tent under which a couple of tables were filled with pistols he had worked on. I went with a couple of buddies, one of whom picked up one of the SAAs, cocked and pulled the trigger. Bob's head snapped up immediately and I started slowly backing away from the table in the event that he got upset. He didn't, but old Bill never did that again. I still have the guns he worked on, and use them every year.
  17. I read somewhere that the parts of the movie with Raymond Burr were filmed independently from the rest of the film, and spliced in to the original.
  18. Only slightly less rough than the regular German toilet paper.
