I use a big tea strainer mounted to the bottom of an old cane..
I mounted it up on the shaft so when I lean on the cane the basket doesn’t touch..
Two perverbial uses..

Concerning the stock splitting??
Mostly from over tightening the bolt..
I found out years ago..
after relieving mine with a Dremel.. tedious..
I get all sorts of plastic credit cards..
I took and cut a shim with it.. cut a whole in the center..
and Voowalla.. you have that spacing between stock and receiver..
if ya want more?? Put in 2 shims..

Ok.. I ain’t a gunsmith..
and I don’t shoot a hammered SxS..
I have read the fixes suggested in the entire thread..
I thought..
ya just need ta replace yer hammers…
then you said firing pin strikes were hitting in the 5 o’clock area..
Could it be that the divot in the hammer is causing the firing pin
to strike off center?? Maybe pushing it at an angle??
Just sayin..
but I see ya ordered new parts..
I think you’ll be good to go..

Two listings above you will find the directions to get to the member list.
Obviously it works best if you know the members name or at least a part of it, in order to narrow down the search.
Hope it helps in the future, should you need it.
Thanks Kit..
I also found I can just type their Alias in the little envelope window thingy
after you click on it.. Kinda does an auto fill (elimination) as you type in alias..
Thanks,
Rance

Personal messages to other cowpokes..
Old wire.. I did it quite regularly.. Never seemed to have any problems..
New wire.. I get notifications of "likes" on my posts..
I get notifications of "someone quoted you"
but I'm having a hard time messaging another wire contributor..
Finding them, if they haven't posted for a while..
(is there an easier way to find a fellow cowpoke?)
I have tried putting "members list" in search window to no avail..
But then, after fiinally finding one of their posts..
Going to their letter icon... Posting a message..
I have never got a notification that he responded..
Rance
thinkin frustration..
Let me know if you got a notification that I replied to your message it should show in the letter icon and an email, unless that is turned off.
Got it!! Thanks..
My email notifications are shut off but I got the little icon in the top
right hand corner..
By the way ... In searching for members..
I found out in messaging that when you click on the little
envelope to private message..
A blank window shows up to receive the message..
As you type in their alias.. It goes through (alphabetically)
all the members eliminating them as you type their alias.. NEAT!!
Rance
Thinkin Thanks!!

I know exactly what you mean, Yusta. Most of the people I consider true friends I would not recognize in "civilian" clothes or without a cowboy hat
Or know their fer real name...

Didn't mean to make a secret of it or anything, and hopefully not violating any rules re advertising (apologies if that's the case), but these are made by Dan Parmenter in Indiana, his web site has lots of photos: Murphy Custom Gunleather . Dan has been great on the phone and in emails back and forth, and I'm looking forward to shooting this season with his holsters.
Thought they looked familiar..
Dan made my second set..
He pays attention to what a shooter needs..
He had me try on a lot of different holsters..
He asked me a lot of questions and showed me the features of different models he makes..
He finally said here try these.. They were his own personal set..
I tried 'em.. Liked 'em.. Had him make a set like his for me..
Rance
Thinkin he's hard to beat.
-
Rusty..
In yer last post you mentioned taking your holsters off between stages..
A lot of folks take their guns out only.. between stages and place them in their gun carts..
They usually leave their holsters on..
It lightens the load a lot when doing posse duty..
On my second set.. I did not want bullet loops around the back..
If they ain't filled with bullets they don't look quite right..
And.. If they are full of bullets they look good.. But Again.. Packing around a lot of extra weight ..
A couple of well placed cartridge loops for a fast reload (like replacing a jacked out rifle round) might be handy..
I reload jacked out rounds off my shotgun belt..
The suede on the inside keeps you guns where you want them..
They won't ride up or down with fast running movement
Rance;)
Thinkin that's about all else I can think of..
-
I started SASS shooting with a set like the first picture...
After a few years.. Found the disadvantages with the first picture set.
I now have the second picture set.. Bettererer....
Ya might make sure the area of the belt in front is wide enough to supporters the holsters..
My first set I could not move the holsters to the front as much as I would have liked them
because the tapering of the belt around buckle area..
Rance
Thinkin ya done good by askin'.

Don't know the name of the episode but...
It's the one where Matt sends Festus out to arrest this young man..
The young man is married with a new baby..
The young man has the drop on Festus with a rifle but gives himself up..
Then the young man's wife gets the drop on Festus but her husband talks her into giving up..
The baby is crying from the house and Festus kinda tells them they need to get out of Kansas..
Matt rides up.. and asks Festus "You couldn't find them ?"
Festus.. "No I never could catch them Mathew.."
In the background you see the young couple riding off with their newborn baby in a buckboard..
Matt says something like " Kinda figured that.. Let's head back to Dodge.."

i purchased the Competition Pro.. The gray one.. It might be the pocket Pro 2??
It's not in front of me so can't quite remember the total name..
It will time a stage..
If you want to take off the last shot.. (Maybe error was made on the stage)
You can see the last shot and every shot.. If you position the timer correctly..
It will show split times on a string of shots..
It has "Par timing " for dry fire practice..
Me?? Myself?? I like the buzzer to go off on " button push" instead of "button release"..
Rance
Thinkin everybody has their favorite features..
-
Yer Rossi?? Yes... Nate Kiowa comes to mind..
Yer Henry?? I'm thinkin kinda unlikely..
Rance
Thinkin that's about the most I know on the yer subject..

I would say get a Bond for competition... But they are More expensive..
For concealed carry.. Cobra maybe..
I have 2 Cobra's in 38 special..
For competition.. They won't hold up..
They do have a lifetime guarantee and they will fix them free..
But.. I had to pay postage and FFL fee's..
I still have the Cobras but.. I bought a Bond for competition.. Again 38 special..
Rance
Thinkin by the many times ya pay for postage and inconvenience...
Get a Bond..
-
They are brass colored.
Thinkin' they are probably Winchesters...
-
Federal, Remington or CCI. The only primers I have trouble with are Winchesters.
Gonna get all sorts of suggestions..
I shoot 38's with lightened hammer springs in my Vaquero's..
I started with Winchester Small Pistol about 13 years ago.. Never a fail to fire..
Switched to Federal about 4-5 years ago.. Never a fail to fire..
About 5-6 years ago we had a primer shortage..
Only thing I could get was Remington small pistol.... HAD some fail to fire..
Rance.
Thinkin' everybody's mileage will vary.

If it were mine..I just got an Uberti 1866 Yellowboy today for Christmas and have been reading about that problem (mine is a .38spl).
I have the 20" barrel....how can I identify which loading gate (screw size) to get?
http://www.vtigunparts.com/store/shopdisplaycategories.asp?id=106&cat=Rifles
I'll probably just find a local gunsmith to help me out.....
I'd take the side plate off..
Remove the loading gate..
Reinforce the brand new one in your brand new rifle with some JB Weld..
Won't need to worry about screw size.. Or worry about the tab bending or breaking off...
With 66's... It's not IF the tab breaks off or bends.. But when...
Rance
Thinkin I've went the "stronger reinforced " route...
Use to carry 2-3 spares with me until I reinforced one..
No problem since.

Greatest news this ol wire has had in a long time...
Rance
-
I shoot Ruger Vaquero's with lightened springs.. And '66 and '73 rifles.. With short strokes..
I started back in 2003 using Winchester small pistol primers..I shoot 38's.. No missfires..
I started the treck of switching to Federal.. A few years back... No missfires..
When the the primer shortage came through a few years back the only small pistol primer
I could find were Remington... Started having missfires.. All the guns were the same..
Springs got weaker with age to allow missfires you think?? Don't think so..
Finally found some Winchester small primers again and they all went bang again..
Rance
Thinkin this ain't scientific... Just my experience...

News we didn't want ta hear..
Prayers up..

I had my first Stetson doing that..
It was a size 7 1/8..
I wear a size 7 1/4.. but I gotta good deal on this first Stetson..
Every time I wore it I would jam it onto my head and wear it..
Stretch it out again ya know
I finally clipped the inner hat band and the outter braided hat band..
the next time I wore it.. it stretched out to 7 1/4 and stayed..
Just sayin’..
