I started out double cocking and learned about alternate cocking and shoot much better that way. I was more curious about how many people shoot the 2 different styles of alternate cocking and the pros and cons between the two.

For my opinion between the 2,  I suspect the way Jed I Knight shoots is slower than the way I do (though he is still pretty quick); but split pistols always get me in trouble because my hands just cock that 6th shot out of habit before I can fire the 5th shot and I have to shoot the 6th shot where I am standing and take the P.

I've tried to retrain my brain to shoot like he does but it just hasn't set in yet. Habits die hard.

I don’t shoot Gunfighter but have a friend who does and alternately cocks.  When shooting a split pistol stage he starts his count with 6 because he never cooks after the 9th shot. Essentially he counts 6, 7, 8, 9, don’t cock, 10. When he starts the second group of the split pistol he again starts his count at 6. I hope. That make sense?

You might be able to use a fine point grease pencil and write on your phone screen!

    Who is coming list updated.

    Schedule is updated.

We will not be printing a shooters book this year. The Shooters book has been sent to those who registered. Drake is sending out an updated email in t he next day or two.

You can save a copy to your phone or tablet, most of them have files area to save files to.

You can also print a copy and bring it with you.

THERE WILL NOT BE ANY PRINTED COPIES AVAILABLE AT THE RANGE.

We have a new food vendor this year so hopefully it all goes well.

Here is a copy of the stage book.

    Shootout 2024 book.pdf 1.07 MB · 9 downloads

I am going to attempt to add spring kits to my Ruger Vaquero Bisleys.  They are the New Vaquero and are chambered in 45 colt.  What would I need to buy from Wolff to make these better.  I am an occasional shooter with plans on shooting more often when I retire.

I see they have shooters kits.  Is this sufficient or is there more I need?
also what power reduced spring do most of you use?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Skinny.   (Not so much any more)

It would depend on what trigger pull you want? I shoot duelist and like a little heavier trigger pull than when I shot 2-handed. I would get the 40/17 (I shoot Federal primers), if I was shooting 2-handed I would get the 30/17.

A lot will depend on the primers that you are using. Federal primers are softer and require less force so the 30-19 should be fine, if you are using  winchester or cci primers I would go 40/19. Especially if you are an occasional shooter. You can always change springs later. Most shooters have fiddled with spring pressures.

I may be wrong but the only difference in those 2 kits is the trigger return spring which will make no difference in the hammer force.

The check is in the mail (finally).  Shootin Sharyn and I will be there.  Iron Cowboy will have to miss this one due to shoulder surgery.

Great, hope his recovery is going well?

  7. Wartrace Regulators are shooting this Saturday 4/6/24. Registration 8:30, Safety Meeting 9:30 and shooting shortly thereafter. Entry $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Tennessee Williams has stages 11-15 set up for our shooting pleasure. It will be cool in the morning but should be a nice day. Here's the email I got from Whiskey Hayes.

Clean your guns, find some ammo Wartrace is shooting Saturday April 6th. Going to be cool in the morning Ole Paint might be a tad frisky.

  8. We use 3’  of 5/16” chain attached to the target and inexpensive rope from Harbor Freight. 3’ doesn’t make the our targets hard to go down in fact I think it helps them fall.

  9. Papa Dave used to slick up and sell the Yildiz, they are the nicest looking internally of any modest priced shotguns I’ve seen.  Everyone I’ve seen would shuck STS and AA hulls right out of the box. Like everything else they are very oversprung.  They have a long reset on the trigger so they are hard to shoot if you’re used to an SKB. I think a good gunsmith could make a very nice starter shotgun out of one.

  12. Someone lost a Page Custom Screwknife at the range a few years ago and it has not been claimed. It has a serial number and I contacted Larry put he didn’t have a record of who had bought it.  If you lost a screwknife at Wartrace and can describe it, we will get it to you.

    Thanks

Grudgingly,  I've lost a lot of speed.

But, when ya slack off for 4 years and get older, its gonna happen.

I'll still have fun and I might even help out a little and work the timer for some

    shooters.

BUT..... you could be right in that SOMEONE might hit that 3.99.

And although Red Knee isn't planning to be there, he still has time to change

his mind and jump in line.

Remember, Red Knee was on the 3 man team of 1897 Cowboy shooters (along with

Missouri Traveler and myself) what beat the 3 man Wild Bunch shooters a few years back.

Us Cowboys loaded from the belt for about 25 KD's and the WB shooters stoked their 97's

for their 25 KD's.   It was close..... but the Cowboys whooped em.   :D

I could be wrong about the number of KD's, but it was between 22-25 if I remember

    correctly.

    ..........Widder

I can’t remember either but I do remember the Cowboys beat the Wild  Bunch!!

    Randy,

a few years back (the last time RED KNEE visited Wartrace), I ran the 6 KD's in 4.24 seconds.

This year, I'm gonna bring a few boxes of AA Low Noise, Low Recoil shells and anyone

who breaks that match record will get a box (25 rounds) of shells from me.

I hope its an incentive for those capable to bring their 'A' game and wear it out.

    Who's the Huckleberry?

    ..........Widder

I think someone will get a 3.99 this year, it will probably be you!!

    RANDY,

it won't just be the 97 speedsters, but Slater on his 87 is probably one of the best 87 shooters

you'll ever see.   He 'drops 2' down the action and slam fires that lever

open and closed before your favorite huntin dog can twitch its eyeball.

    ..........Widder

You are right Slater can really make that ‘87 sing!!  I expect we’ll have some mighty fast double shooters as well!!
