  1. Only one bad one. Initially, anyway. But the seller gave me a full refund and told me to keep the item, as return shipping would be prohibitive, considering what I paid.

A few years ago, I was looking for a small frame .38 for my daughter, and the seller sent me the revolver and said, "If you like it, send me $XXX.xx, and if you don't, send it back." Might have been Parson John Tourmann above, I don't remember.

  2. I live in Montana... not many see-leb-erty's 'round these parts. Hank Jr. and Randy Weaver can be seen at gun shows occasionally. Becky Munden still shows up at Cowboy shoots now and again, but not to shoot, just to get out, I think. Sat next to Eddie Albert on a flight from Vegas to San Francisco about... 1975 or so. Coach. Must have had a bad weekend at the craps table. Met Bill Jordan in the restaurant of the Rainbow hotel in Great Falls in June of 1988. The Keiths were friends of my grandparents, and I met Elmer several times in my youth. Charlie Pride was a good friend of my parents way back before he hit it big as a singer, and I've met him a few times.

  3. About 4 days ago, SASSNET.COM became inaccessible via my Internet provider. At first, I thought the site was just down again, but discovered my phone accesses it just fine through Verizon, but not when connected through my home Internet provider. Every other site works fine, including several other gun oriented sites - TFL, CASCITY, GLOCKTALK, SIXGUNS, etc., so it doesn't seem to be a blanket block of gun sites... weird. I called the provider and was on the phone with them for 45 minutes resetting, remoting, etc, and they can't figure it out either.

  4. The only 10mm I've ever owned is a full size Glock 20SF. I use a max load of 800X and a Hornady 180 gr XTP - more than the max load listed on Hodgdon's online reloading data center Web page, but in line with other online sources.

Blue Dot, Longshot, 800x, and AA#9 seem to be the most often used powders for full power loads.

  5. The answer to why is pretty simple. The movie had 1911 .45's, 1897 12 gauges, and 1892 .44-40's & .38-40's. There warn't no .38/357's, .32-20's or .25-20's in the movie. :P

  6. Like many of us, I started with a Rossi '92, then went to 1873's, but the longer I play the game, the more I like Marlins. I've owned ten 1892's (1 Browning, 9 Rossi's), currently still have seven, and have never been "frustrated" with them. If you're willing to go with .44 mag, decent Marlins, even JM Marlins, can be had in the mid-$500 range. There's a very nice JM .44 mag on gunbroker right now that has been relisted several times starting at $549/BIN $599, with no bids.

  7. Some of these stacks are four bricks deep, and there are several thousand more down at the house. Also about 6,000 Remington #10 caps. If I had to guess, I'd say I have more Federal 100's than anything else, followed by CCI, then Winchester, then MagTech, then Remington. Something over 100,000 total, plus maybe 7,000 or so percussion caps. :) Some of these are 7-8 years old, but I picked up a mixed lot last year (2016) with some CCI's that date to the 50's, and every one of them has worked so far.

  8. Shiloh. That said, although the Shiloh is very accurate, my Pedersoli is consistently a bit more accurate, and is the one I use for long range side matches.

Buy decent sights. A bubble level front globe is mandatory if you expect to be competitive at the longer ranges. Setting up the sights can be quite time consuming - the tang sight mast needs to be perfectly perpendicular to the action and the bubble level front sight needs to be perfectly level in relation to the mast. If the mast isn't perfectly perpendicular to the action and at a perfect right angle to the bubble level, the point of impact can move substantially to the left or right as the eyepiece is moved up the mast for progressively longer shots.

  9. Normally, we'll load anywhere between 350-700 rounds a week. If the weather is really nasty, we'll get a lot more done.

 Holy crap, 36,400+ rounds per year on a single stage press! My personal record is 11,226, but I have a friend in Wyoming who CLAIMS to load 104,000+ per year for modern precision long-range... on a single stage press... and a balance beam scale... I have my doubts about that... ;)

  10. Any clubs letting shooters use one 1911 instead of 2 single actions and otherwise shoot stage same as other shooters.

There's one club around here that allows it. However, like PaleWolf pointed out, once you step outside the rules, where do you stop?

"I'd shoot Cowboy Action if I could use my 1100 Remington, a Glock 17, a Ruger 10/22, and didn't have to wear the goofy clothes."

Probably get more WB shooters if went back to the old rules. Any semi or da pre 1917, any SASS legal lever.

I'd definitely shoot my Lugers or S&W M&P revolvers in Wild Bunch. :-)

  11. I took an extended vacation in 2005 - bought a new F350 Power Stroke and a new 32' trailer and hit the road. Got back a couple months later and found the power had been off due to a lightning strike on my end-of-the-line transformer for about 7 of those 8 weeks... there was no doubt at all that was too long! I ended up spending a few more nights in the trailer while the house was being cleaned and de-smelligated. How the hell do maggots get in a damn freezer anyway?

  12. I plan to take terminal vacation and quit working on May 12 this year, then file for my state retirement on/after my anniversary date of July 9. Seven months, three days later, I turn 62 and will file for social security.

My dad died at 59. His brother, my uncle, died at 58, and it's startin' to spook me a bit, so I'm bailing as soon as I can. I expect I'll work part-time/seasonal winter jobs until such time as the Reaper comes calling, because I just can't stay warm outside in the winter, so I don't do northern winter stuff like snowmobiling, skiing, snow shoeing, etc. Or maybe find somewhere cheap in the southwest to park my trailer and live over the winter months.
