  1. I don't remember being a kid, that was too long ago!
  2. On 3/15/2024 I purchased a pistol on line from a vendor in Philadelphia. As I am not a holder of an FFL or a C&R the item was supposed to have been shipped to an FFL in my area, which has been done several times before. The shipping dept. made a mistake and incorrectly shipped it to my home address. The USPS attempted delivery on 3/21/2024 at my home. As advised by the vendor I refused receipt that same day at the post office. Fourteen days later, on 4/4/2024 the USPS finally sent the package back to the vendor. FOURTEEN DAYS!! As of today, 4/5/2024 the package is somewhere in Wilmington, Delaware. I am not blaming the vendor, the item is labeled C&R and the shipping department made an honest mistake, but why did it take the USPS fourteen days to send the piece back? Rant over.
  3. Personal taste. My first CAS pistols were Colt Cowboys. I know, I know. But it was what I could afford at the time, but I hated the hammer profiles and the placement of the triggers when not cocked and as soon as I could I went with two USFA Rodeos, which I really loved. I have since progressed to Colt SAAs and Standard Manufacturing.
  4. Is he afraid that there shooting iron's gonna run away? Why is he putting that there dog leash on it?
  5. I've read that the tears during this scene were very real.
  6. This may be very obvious to many but it's a mystery to me. Why do some outdoor ranges not allow steel core or magnetic reactive ammo to be used. A couple of years ago I was with my son and grandsons at an outdoor range in N.C. and I had brought several pistols , an M1 Garand and an Springfield Armory M1A. A range officer took out a magnet and tested my ammo and found the 30-06 was reactive to the magnet. He then, very courteously and even apologetically informed me the 30-06 was not allowed. We fired everything else and had a very good time. I never questioned the ruling but it's left me kinda perplexed. All my 30-06 ammo comes from the CMP and I have fired hundreds of rounds through my M1 Garand in ranges all over Florida with no problem. Thanks.
  7. Once your name goes into a computer's list it takes an act of God to get it off!
  8. I remember that as if it happened yesterday. Even after it was rebuilt my wife always got very nervous every time we crossed it. I pray human loss in Baltimore be at a minimum.
  9. Wanna speak German? Just take out all the spaces between words.
  10. Many years ago when I was young, dumb, and adventurous I started using one. It came with a removable guard which you would use until you became proficient and then you would remove the guard and either get a good shave or slice your throat. After a while it just lost its appeal and I went back to safety razors. Funny thing, I never liked electric ones.
  11. Most of my knives are Wusthof. I also have a couple of Cutco. Several years ago my father-in-law was trying to cut a slab of frozen meat by banging it with a wooden pestle and managed to break the tang under the grip.. This was a 4.5 inch Wutshof butcher knife. Next day I went to Bed Bath & Beyond to buy another one. I told the sales lady what had happened and that I wanted to replace it. She then asked me if i still had the knife and if I did to bring it in to the store. I did that and she gave me a new one free of charge and told me Wusthof has a lifetime no questions asked guarantee. The price of the knife, was about $65.00. I don't know anyone else with that type of warranty I have gifted Wusthof knives to both my daughter and my oldest grand daughter.
  12. Any 45-70 recoil can be brutal. I have a Pedersoli Springfield Trapdoor Carbine which turned my right shoulder into a black mess. Now i'm 82 and bleed a lot so that's not surprising, but the experience led me off high power carbines. Your gun, your choice, but I'd stay with the longer barrel.
  13. Costner has come a long way since "Silverado". I used to not really like him until he played Frank Hamer in "the Highwaymen". I think he plays good roles now.
  14. In the movie York uses a 1903 Springfield and several lugers. In reality York used an Enfield 17 and a Colt 1911. They used Lugers instead of the 1911 because at the time they could not figure out how to make the 1911 cycle with blanks. I have no idea why they used 03' instead of Enfields, though.
  15. Good luck with that one, Bob, I've been looking for one for years, but it seems they have turned to gold or something.
  16. Nice hearing from you UB, hope you are doing well.
  17. Who else, beside me, will not be watching it? I'd rather watch the Puppy Bowl or the Dr. Pimple Popper show.
  18. I hear you. During the Tampa Bay Doldrums of summer I lovingly await days like today, but, unfortunately at my age (almost 82) my insides get colder faster than my outsides and I'm hunkering in my house and layering myself with all kinds of heavy woolies.
  19. 39 degrees F in Central Florida at 8:45 AM. I can't imagine nor want to know what it's like up in the northern Tundra states. So much for global warming!
  20. SD Joe, you come up with the most incredible stuff. I watched the pics for over an hour but have no idea how many you posted. Some depict the most horrible scenes of WWI. Thanks for posting, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
  21. Well good for you and yes I hope you get another 20 years here. Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
