I am looking to get a 45/70 insert for a Baikal coach gun, making it a combo gun. I will need to add sights. I picked up a fold down leaf rear sight, but am looking for input on the front. Are there any blade front rifle sights that could just screw in to replace the front bead? I'm wondering if I can avoid gunsmith work on this. part two: if I can't find something easy (as described above)... does anyone have any recomendations for a front sight on a combo gun? Something that will work with my rear sight up as a rifle, or with my rear sight down as a shotgun. thanks Buckshot Ben

I would like to have a Cimarron coachgun threaded for chokes. Anyone know how much this will cost... or know of a good gunsmith to perform it? I'm up in Maine, but could certainly mail the barrel. Buckshot Ben

Can anyone tell me who makes a nice external hammer shotgun threaded for chokes? the Cimarron one looks nice, but I'm not sure about chokes on than one. thanks Buckshot Ben

My goal is to find a 12ga hammer coach gun under $500... that will except an EAA 45-70 insert. I know the the barrel needs to be 20", with 2 3/4, and screw in chokes... does anyone know if those are the only criteria? does anyone know if it has to be an EAA shotgun?? My only issue with the EAA is (so I've been told) that the hammers aren't "real" hammers. By cocking thim, you cock the internal hammers. I would prefer traditional, functional hammers? any input on these topics would be helpful. Buckshot Ben

Does anyone have any info on combination guns?A.K.A Cape guns? I recently saw an antique that (other than being WAY out of my price range) looked perfect . It looked like a beautiful old dbl barrel shotgun with exposed hammers . But one barrel was 45/70, and the other was 10 gauge ! Does anyone know of a place that makes anything like this? ammo.... I'm not going to be loading my own anytime soon, so what factory made ammo should I use? Are there restrictions I should be aware of for load size (likely I'll be gettin a 45/70)with a Sharps? Ben

David, I wonder what your impressions of the sharps 45/70 are. what are it's strengths and limitations? That is the gun I am really leaning towards... though probably not a Shiloh, probably have to go a little less expensive. Lastly is my Shiloh Sharps in 45-70. Its like Chevy or Ford, buy what works for you and most importantly get a caliber that you can afford to shoot and get ammo for in Iddy Biddy Town, Rural USA. So besides the single shot, and weight, are there any other down sides to the sharps... Compared to more traditional hunting rifles? I imagine BP isn't as powerful as modern smokeless. Are sharps limited to BP only, or can other ammo be used?

I am hoping for some input on the best all around hunting rifle... While staying in the cowboy family of firearms. Mostly for deer, but maybe moose or bear in the future. Buckshot Ben

Peddler Do you use a 45/70? What would be the down side to using larger loads? I imagine the bullet would fly on a straighter path. Here is a nuts and bolts question. If I were to buy a 45/90 (or larger), it would still be able to shoot smaller ammo wouldn't iit? Like a 45/70? Ben

Anyone deer hunt with a sharps? If so, what load (45/70,45/90...etc)? Or is it to big a gun for deer? I would like to get into deer hunting (other game to follow...I live in Maine), and like the idea of a sharps... But want to make sure it would suit the job. Buckshot Ben
