The 3 new ones had factory locks included, but not installed. The other 4 were just paper work to transfer. Maybe that made a difference. The shop was not the seller.

The FFL that disposes the handgun to the buyer is responsible for the lock. The lock does not need to be installed on the handgun.

This, along with the YHSA notice is their (the FFL doing the "transfer"), responsibility.

Don't forget that all these seemingly silly store policies are conceived of and implemented by the VP's etc., and lawyers at the company headquarters. It is not the local employees that come up with this stuff... they just want to keep their jobs.

Or implemented because of threat of liability...I know if feels better to simply blame the big bad executives/lawyers...headquarters...

Huh! The last seven I've bought weren't locked to leave the LGS. 3 came with locks ( in the box)  as they were new, but not the 4 used ones.

Used handguns must leave the FFL premises with a lock. To do otherwise if a violation...also must include the Youth Handgun Safety Act notice.

I provide for free...some dealers will charge for the locks.

LOL!   I have a small collection of trigger locks from guns I have purchased.   Living in Massachusetts, I have held on to them only if I ever have to travel with so many guns that I don't have a hard case for them all.   Those that wind up in an old fashioned soft gun case get a lock on them, just to avoid potential problems.

Locks are required with ALL handgun purchases...Federal Law.

Some of these gun laws/rules make no sense. I purchase a gun in Cabelas and they have to escort me to the door with it. All this while I am carrying a loaded pistol in a holster. I do have a carry permit. They do not even call ATF after I fill out the forms because of my permit.

    kR

    That's not a gun law/rule. That a company policy.

Maybe our targets are too close.........

    Right...this is a statement...that's ignorant.

Close has nothing to do with splatter...unless you wish to put the pistol targets out at about...oh...50 yards and the rifle targets out about 75 yards.

Ever wonder why so many people get hit by splatter from the Stage next to you...that even has a berm?

    Yeah...splatter travels.

  8. Thank God I was able to shoot with him right before he passed. I had known him for a while...and though we weren't buddy-buddies, we knew each other enough to say hi.

    He was a good guy...

True, but even we can't get it all right, we can still get it mostly right, or do a better job at any of it.  Go to any indoor range and look at the slope of the backstop / bullet trap.  No one gets hit by ricochets at indoor ranges.  Obviously we can't do that, but we can get closer to it than vertical.

Uhhh...I just said that "angle" is only part of the equation. To just imply that dealing with target angles is getting it "mostly right", is giving way too much value to that variable...IMO.

Indoor ranges have bullet traps...as you said. Can't compare the two completely different environments. Also, yes, there is potential for ricochets at indoor ranges.

Agree 100%.  All plates must be tilted leaning forward so that all deflections go down into the ground.  But not all plates are so tilted, and that's a problem.

Wish it was as simple as that.

    Angle

    Target surface condition

Secondary Impact point (ie: poor target stands)

    Ground conditions

    Cheers!

Well it is obviously beyond my somewhat limited capabilities to understand why you don't have an idea or to explain it.  So I'll just have to live with that.

    kR

Why did you bring up the sub-category of shooters...I have no idea why...wasn't part of my comments which you were referencing.

  12. He's a VERY dependable gunsmith...very high on the ethics meter.

His work is very good and priced below what it should be. I have his work on my backup set. My main match revolvers are Boogie SS. I prefer his over Mr. Perkins...but price-wise, Mr. Perkins guns are a great value.

So what’s the consensus? Are they in a different category? I’m not doing the side match but it’s an interesting question.

I've never seen them separated...I mean...with so few of them around it just doesn't make sense.

I guess it all comes down to this...

Is the Lightning a good speed rifle side match gun?   Depends on the shooter.
Is it in general, a good main match rifle?  There are those who will say yes, there are those who will say no.   All a matter of preference.

And this response is kinda what I was referring too.

The percentage of folks that would say that the Lightning Rifle is a good main match rifle is infinitesimally small. To say that it's just preference whether one shoots a Lightning or a Lever rifle would imply that they are on par with each other.

I will say this, that if you have no concern on performance and you weight HEAVILY the ever present and non-existent "Style Points", then perhaps yes, the Lightning Rifle is a matter of preference.

Not trying to make this about fast versus slow. Just saying that fast does not mean you know stuff that some slow shooters do. I have shot with some of the best shooters in our game and not all of them are fast. I have also shot with some fairly fast shooters that really have no clue wth is goin on.

    kR

I...have no idea why "Fast" shooters are even a point of conversation...??

What exactly do you mean by "few "?

Subtleties...I know you're trying to be cute Hoss...

I didn't say I know Few that use the Lightning...though this would have been true as well. And then...of course when compared to the word "some" which can mean "many" or "Few"...the word "few" does not have this wide quantity definition.

You...as much as anyone...should know that Words matter.

Ya got the other side of the coin also, some folks think the only thing that makes ya knowledgeable is if ya shoot fast. I have seen folks that are fast with high member numbers that think they know everything. If they stay in the game they MIGHT learn something later on but first they got to realize they don't know diddly.

    kR

PS No I'm not referencing anyone that's in this conversation so far.

Shooting fast is meaningless...in and of itself.

But there are folks here that either have shot just a few matches or no matches in years. Basically their the SASS version of the 40 year old living at home in the basement. Nobody know this...new shooter takes their advice thinking they must know something about the game...and they really don't.

Let's not make this about Fast/Gamer vs. Others.

I see in another thread that you already dismissed the write-up from a long-time Marlin employee about the QC issues, so please do tell what experience you have with working in the Marlin and/or Remington plants and seeing all of this first-hand.

Hmmmm...didn't know any Marlin employees actual took up the offer to work for Remington.

All I had were conversations...with people at Remington.

But continue with your QC statistics if it makes you feel better...not going to change anything. But it does sound rather silly in my opinion.

Hey!!!... I resemble that remark... but... only resemble... I'm knowledgeable, just not fast.  The ultimate "do as I say, not as I do".  Practice MORE... BETTER... Get a coach, video yourself, correct what you're doing wrong.  Then practice a LOT MORE!  When you think you've practiced enough... you HAVEN'T!  If you're not practicing EVERYTHING, you're not practicing enough.  If you don't practice at speed...  There's a theme here...

That's all well and good...I'm more referring to the folks that have really very little practical knowledge that make strong statements. New folks assume that because they have a low badge number that they must know what they are talking about.
