What do you think of ammunition as a present?
Muley Gil SASS # 57795 replied to Alpo's topic in SASS Wire Saloon
Growing up, my mom would put some boxes of .22 LR and a box of 12 gauge shells in my stocking. The only problem was she always bought hard kicking high brass shells. But it was the thought that counts! Wish she was still here. -

Wish I had some funds in the ole piggy bank. I'm only about 70 miles away. -
I don't know. When I was in Afghanistan as a police advisor, there was a SF camp nearby. Some of those gentlemen were a bit, shall we say, not dressed in complete Army uniform. Their captain came by our training center at the same time a LTC from the Vermont National Guard was present. This colonel was a mite miffed at the captain's attire.

Winchester 9422: Which one is it?
Muley Gil SASS # 57795 replied to H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619's topic in SASS Wire
I bought a new 9422 in 1973. It had the smooth buttstock and forearm, no checkering. It had a great action. Paid $100. I sold it around 1979, just knowing I could replace it easily, sometime in the future. WRONG! -
History: S&W brought out the .44 American, which had an outside lubed bullet, like the .22 Long Rifle. The Russian liked the top break S&Ws, but didn't like the outside lubed bullet. An cartridge with a bullet encased was developed and called the .44 Russian. In about 1907, S&W lengthened the .44 Russian case and called it the .44 Special. In the 1950s, Elmer Keith went to S&W and Remington and asked them to load his heavy .44 Special rounds. In 1956, S&W and Ruger brought out revolvers chambered in the .44 Magnum, which is a lengthened .44 Special.

Remington double derringer model 95
Muley Gil SASS # 57795 replied to High Plains Banker's topic in SASS Wire
A friend of mine brought me one that he had partially taken apart. The mainspring was jammed. After quite a bit of cursing and putting it together and taking it apart AGAIN, I finally got it back together. I took it to him and told him if he ever took it apart again, I was going to bring it back and stuff it up his.....................................................gun safe. BTW, the frame is very soft. Try not to bend it. I put his in my vise and had to straighten it out after I got finished. -

SPF Two S&W Model 1 1/2's .32 S&W
Muley Gil SASS # 57795 replied to Flanigan Flats's topic in SASS Wire Classifieds
Right now, with the sorry economy, if I heard that steamboats were selling for a dime apiece, all I could do is run up and down the bank, shouting "Ain't that cheap!?" No money for more guns. Probably wind up selling a few, which I really hate to do. -

I like mine. It has the plow handle grip & handles the .32-20 just fine. -

I have a Uberti Model P Jr 4 1/2" in .32-20/.32 H&R Magnum. I also had a Cimarron/Uberti SAA 4 3/4" in .32-20. Remington built rolling blocks, as well as pump action rifles, in .32-20.
