BP subs works fine. No need for nickel cases as they may crack sooner than later. SG brass cases would work too. Personally, I'll just use regular SG hulls as brass cases when step on will flatten.

Is 10.5 grains enough powder?
I’m running 12 grains of promo (red dot) with everything else you’ve got and it gives the perfect crimp and everything. 7/8oz shot.
Several guys I shoot with are loading 13-14 grains red dot/promo with the same components and get good results.
Yes, this load works for me for some time now. It patterned well for me and no problem with knockdowns. Load a few and see for yourself. Felt recoil is a lot better than the Winchester LNR AA.

10.5 grains Red Dot
7/8 - 1 ounce #8 shot
Claybuster gray wad (CB178-12)
Rem STS, AA hulls
This is what I use when shooting smokeless. Good luck.

It's an easy conversion. Need to replace grip frame, hammer and trigger for the conversion.

You can go on Marauder's Cowboy Page for some info. However if you want to do this yourself, WARNING: DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. You have to know what you are doing and have a very good understanding of how the SG works. If in doubt, have an experienced cowboy gunsmith do it for you as mentioned above. Good luck.

Or we can just call it LARGE VAQUERO or SMALL VAQUERO, to distinguish between large frame vs small frame. Just saying.

Yep picture provided is just upside down. But that is the part for a lever cam.

Been there - Done that. Never had problem with mine but I forgot our pistols for a monthly last summer. I borrowed a set of New Vaqueros to shoot. When I tried to run them at speed - skipped notches - slowed down and they were fine. The owner shoots slower so he never had the problem.
Seamus, you could've borrowed mine. Mine don't skip. But you have to shoot BP with it.

Ya know....Colts really are better than Rugers!
Rye, Are you trying to stir the pot here or what?

Sorry Allie Mo,
I can only wear one hat at a time.
I do own more HATS though.

Might as well mount a hat and coat rack on that wall. Available from Home Depot. There will be a place for your cowboy hat and holster rig.

Ha you always crack me up! I also know the pleasure of pulling shot out of carpet
Put a cookie sheet under that Mec and it will keep most of your shots from falling on the carpet.

Prayers up for a great pard.

Uberti factory front sights don't have a bead unless it's been changed to a Marble beaded sight. Pioneer gun works has a beaded barrel band sights to replace the factory band. If you want to replace the bead you can get them from www.slixsprings.com and click on SLIX BEADS.

Sent you a PM.

Ya don't see too many original centerfire 1860's or Spencers in this game either.
Good grief, shoot what ya want, within the rules of course, and go have fun. Ya'll are going to go into meltdown when someone shows up shooting an 1895 Nagant with a .32acp conversion cylinder.
+!

I guess that depends on your definition of operates. I don't recall ever seeing an original single action colt with a transfer bar an no firing pin on the hammer. Seems like an integral part of the operating mechanism to me.
Cock hammer, pull trigger = single action. How the internal mechanism is constructed is irrelevant to me.

.....................Firearms must operate as intended by the original pre-1900 designs they depict.
Wouldn't this statement completely rule out ruger vaqueros and new vaqueros? No. Ruger Vaqueros OPERATES as a single action like the original 1873 Colts.
As for the bp cattleman, I'm not really sure what the point is. Other than states and countries where SAA clones are not allowed that is.

There's a 24 inch Marlin .44 Mag over in the classifieds. Far better gun and far cheaper than converting a Henry.
+1, my same sentiment.
How often do you anneal your BP brass?

Nope I don't. I shoot 38sp. BP and have never anneal my brass. Bottle neck cases, yes and it helps if shooting 45 colt, decreases blowback.
