  1. That describes youth. Immortal, unbreakable, able to conquer anything. And this is why you like motorcycles.
  2. So your the one who pees on the wall!
  3. Which is a bit odd, because the statute creating it simply says 10 U.S. Code § 8291 - Medal of honor rev | next The President may award, and present in the name of Congress, a medal of honor of appropriate design, with ribbons and appurtenances, to a person who, while a member of the naval service, distinguishes himself conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty— (1) while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States; (2) while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or (3) while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party. (Aug. 10, 1956, ch. 1041, 70A Stat. 389, § 6241; Pub. L. 88–77, § 2(1), July 25, 1963, 77 Stat. 93; Pub. L. 104–106, div. A, title XV, § 1503(b)(2), Feb. 10, 1996, 110 Stat. 512; renumbered § 8291, Pub. L. 115–232, div. A, title VIII, § 807(b)(13), Aug. 13, 2018, 132 Stat. 1836.) But it's understandable because it is presented "in the name of Congress." But, again, it's a common usage, everyone knows what you mean, the world won't ende because you use the "wrong" term. If we're talking specific legalities, then, yes, it could matter, but in general conversation we all need to lighten up. I swear, next time some pedant gots on me about using "bullets" when I should have, with utmost punctillion, stated, "I seem to have used up my store of boxer primed, 7.62x51mm, metallic cartridges" I'll be tempted to hand him a 7.62mm PROJECTILE in a black powder era paper cartridge.
  4. Our version was a version of keep away. The guy with the ball tried to keep from getting gang tackled and the ball stripped from him. But the object was to be the guy with the ball at the end of recess.
  5. That used to be the common phrasing. Just like until run-n-gun sports got popular you could say clip when you meant detachable box magazine (because it clipped into the firearm) and not have dozens of pedantics screaming at you "IT'S A MAGAZINE!"

  7. We don't know what's outside the frame. Maybe he didn't need to look threatening. Judging from the terrain and the type of fence I would guess that the German had walked a few tens of yards at the very least in the open.
  8. It's FRIDAY!! (I'll leave...) This weekend while shopping in a local toy store, I came across a long line of people waiting for a promised shipment of dolls from Mattel. As I scanned the line, I noticed a friend waiting with all the others. I knew my friend had no daughters or young relatives, so I figured he must like the dolls himself. "Bill," I said going up to him, "I didn't know you were a collector!" "I'm not," he replied. "Oh," I said, "You're buying a gift, then." "No, not at all," my friend responded. "If you don't mind my asking then Bill," I said, "Why are you standing in this line?" "Oh that," he answered. "I've never been able to resist a barbie queue!"

  10. Catch the ball and return it with extreme prejudice. We used an assortment of the big red rubber balls, volleyballs, and 10 year olds, hard as granite, rubber basketballs. The red balls had a weird kind of hollow metallic - plastic ping to them.
  11. "If at 18 they are mature adults and can vote and be sent off to war it follows that they are mature enough to buy semiautomatic personal defense rifles, shotgus, and handguns."
  12. On this day in 1945, the Battle of the Bulge came to an end. German lines were now pushed back to the location they had started at prior to the launch of Unternehmen Wacht am Rhein ('Operation Watch on the Rhine’), the Wehrmacht's code name for the Ardennes offensive. This photo taken by famed war photographer and photojournalist Robert Capa, depicts a US officer with a surrendering German prisoner of war near Bastogne, Belgium, December 23-26, 1944. 13. As I recall, in the mostly peaceful civil war conducted by the BLM Red Guards and Antifa Sturmabteilung between 2016 and 2021 those who assaulted and invaded police stations did not become shot.
  14. I looked, a bit too late, to try to catch the Moonrise on some of the Yosemite webcams. Still captured a couple of nice ones, even though the Moon was high. Also one from this morning. This morning:
  15. That's why we should thank God for the hard times we have, because sometimes it take something unpleasant to make something good.
  16. They existed. First attempts were in the 1600s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-barreled_cannon Very heavy, and no real increase in rate of fire as you still have to load each tube. The real problem, though, was the designers almost always thought it would be great to have the balls linked together by a long chain to sythe down lines of infantry. But even a couple of hundredths of a second difference in the ignition of the propellant, or a drams difference in charge, would cause the balls and chain to whip around erratically, sometimes coming back on the crew. I've heard stories of an Ontos crew trying something like that with 2 tubes. The results were a less than complete success.

  18. Da Vinci designed a side by side by side gun https://www.da-vinci-inventions.com/triple-barrel-canon He also designed guns with more barrels. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2002102/Leonardo-Da-Vincis-forerunner-machine-gun-confirmed.html Apparently the French in the early 1700s made a few https://royalarmouries.org/collection/object/object-25729
  19. I still see taxi cabs around quite a bit, so people must still use them. I haven't used Uber, and have only used a taxi 3 times. The last two were a New Year's Eve. Scheduled it the day before, picked us up at 20:00, drove us the mile and a half to the restaurant*, same cab picked us up just after midnight and took us home. He got a nice tip. *We had such a good relationship with the staff there that even though we had decided we wanted to go out for once in NYE a few days after the place had officially stopped taking reservations they said, "Sure! We'll get you seated." It pays to treat the staff well.
