  1. that's the rumor. And the party line. But the plain truth staring us in the face is that young people these days only want to shoot black guns. Period. We are not gonna attract them. Way past time we stop driving away the old folks who have carried this game thru the decades. I repeat and will maintain we need to get back to our roots and maybe just maybe some of those who have fallen away will return. No one can convince me that the new "let's see who can toggle the equipment fastest" is the wise way to go because it is absolutely NOT.

  2. I am not so sure I am in the minority on the direction the game has taken. We had a whole lot more members back in the good ole days. The game is dying out. And I believe the major reason is that all the fun has been sucked out of it. I personally know many former staunch shooters who quit because of this. If I am wrong, then the plunge in numbers would not be happening and instead be on the increase. Most who think likewise are afraid to say anything due to the pummeling they would receive here for daring to dog the dogma. I do not care if anyone thinks I am wrong so long as they are polite in their disagreement arguments. No one should feel the need for kevlar long johns in this ongoing great debate. IMNSHO we either get back to our roots or continue to spiral into extinction.

  3. The real failure is what we have allowed the game to become. I do not even like double taps but more and more it seems a 3 target array is routine with double, triple, quadruple taps. But 9 rifle shots on the same dump target? Ugh, and sigh. This is not cowboy action shooting. This is some kind of contest to see who can toggle their rifles and pistols the fastest. I so regret this direction we have turned to, taken the wrong fork in the road. No wonder our numbers continue to plummet...

  4. I have over a dozen and several staffs. Never leave home w/o one. One has a light in the handle and the lower two feet or so is a stun gun that makes an impressive display anyway at least when you hit the button, do not know how effective it might be but no matter as I also carry the latest Taser device available on Amazon for $400 and a Kimber pepper blaster and a 31" airweight ASP. I have one of the Cold Steel sword canes and several of their poly canes and one of their poly staffs, all quite effective and indestructible. If an attacker takes my cane he will have to survive a hail of lead to pummel me with it.

  5. Bwahaha in spite of the accusation, my drawers (men do not wear panties) were never in a wad and I long ago accepted the FACT that Old Model Vaquero is what it will ever be here. Even tho lost causes are the only ones worth fighting, I long ago threw in the towel on this one and it causes me no angst. In fact I actually have come to think Old Model Vaquero is descriptive and indeed everyone knows what is being referred to. Even tho the word Model is unnecessary.

BUT I continue to think Ruger has dropped the word NEW off the side of all recent production. Just look at the new ads and you will see this is so

  6. I can highly recommend Goatneck for Stoeger work and for Win Mod 12s. He has done several for me.

Disclaimer-- I have no connection to Goatneck's gunsmithing other than being a very satisfied customer

  7. One set-up that will cause a little kink in the norm of things Ruger , the 44 Specials are the New Vaquero frame size , but just have "Vaquero" stamped on the frame.

    Rex :D

I believe Ruger dropped the word "new" from the side of the New Vaquero a few years ago and all the most recent ones are now just stamped Vaquero and this applies to all calibers.

They are either the original Ruger Vaquero or the Ruger New Vaquero. All of them are New Model Vaqueros. None of them are Old Model Vaqueros. No such thing.

Do not waste your time or breath on this forum with that correct argument, I lost that battle years ago. Folks here are gonna always insist and persist in inserting the unnecessary word "model" into all references. Tho the rest of the world knows that there never was and never could possibly be any such thing as an Old Model Vaquero, that mythical creature will always be alive and well here...sigh...

  8. They never stopped to the best of my knowledge. Like others I'm sure they steer clear of Remlins but they've expressed no reservations about working on my JM Marlin.

Few years or so back yessir they did and I had not heard they started back doing them again

  9. I would suppose you would need to contact the Wild Bunch rule committee.

No one is forcing you to modify your gun and there is no penalty if your gun just holds 5, but if you want to be competitive I would suggest making your gun hold 6. You don't hear Wild Bunch shooters whining about a 1911 that will 7 to 8 rounds, yet we only load 5. Get out your hacksaw, saw off the barrel to 20 inches, buy a 6 round spring kit and get on with it...................

No sirree bob, many of us have been quite vocal from day one about loading seven.

I would suppose you would need to contact the Wild Bunch rule committee.

Do not waste your time with that for to quote Zappa "sounds like a typical loser's revolution to me". Just like with loading 7 in the mags, I have been ranting about writing 6 shotgun shell stages vs 5 shell stages when the latter would be just as fun, from the beginning of WBAS. I still do on occasion but it is what it is and ain't ever gonna change. So I now have 6 M12s.

  10. I bought a Stoeger Supreme Coach Gun from Heidi and Jared at Long Hunter Shooting Supply last Fall. Everything went flawlessly with the transaction and the gun works great. I have a '73 in transit back from them right now after action work and a Marlin ready to ship out when the '73 returns. They are kind and efficient and fair. I wholeheartedly recommend them.

so you are saying they are back to working on Marlins again?

  11. The Uberti 44 Mags predated cowboy action by several years. I've seen them as early as the mid-'70s. And don't think that the thicker top strap is an unimportant consideration in containing the pressures of the 44Mag.

yup had a 41 Buckhorn with adjustable sights, one cylinder of factory PMCs was enuff for this wimp and traded it off

  12. I thought the penny was for good luck. I don't recall pay phones taking anything but nickels dimes and quarters.

ha ha read the OP agin Slim, he said they put a dime in the penny holders. No never was a penny pay phone lowest I recall was ten cents and remember being shocked and incredulous when overnight you had to come up with 2 dimes to make a call

  13. Driftwood, way up the thread I said Colt would hit them with a cease and desist order if they continued to use SAA just as Colt did with AWA.

This is the same company that makes those high dollar copies of the best ever US shotguns including the Winchester 21 and Parkers and others I do believe...

  14. A big plus one on not using Blazers in a Marlin they will lock one down hard right now. Haven't seen any lately but 45 Trailblazers that worked fine in everything else did just that in a new Marlin once. 8 misses on stage 1. To make it worse it was my first ever Regional match. I was using them because it was a lost brass match. The Cabelas/Herters 45 ACP rounds made by Blazer have worked just fine in every 1911 I have tried them in

  15. If you buy the BFR do it for hunting or whatever but not CAS, it is totally unsuited for this game. For the price of a BFR you can easily get two SIXguns that are suited for the game. Much more harmonious outcome than thinking a big honking 5 shooter is going to work out at all.

  16. Aluminum cases can be reloaded but it is not worth the mucho trouble. The main problem is that they are berdan primed not boxer primed like brass ammo and yes that is a huge problem. So much so no one does it, just not worth the hassle. I shoot a lot of the Cabelas Herters brand name Blazer made aluminum case rounds with the plastic coated 45 ACP projectile in big Wild Bunch matches as it feeds great and easily makes power factor and the brass shaggers do not have to easter egg hunt for it slowing the match. Just chunk it in the trash bucket or kick it down range next shooter.

  17. Two shots with one pull? The ATF will want to talk to them about that......

nerp. Perfectly legal. ATF already signed off on it. No one needs a 3 shot mouse gun even with two mouse projectiles launched simultaneously ha ha. Strangely enuff tho -- I want one lol! Got lots of 25 ACP gathering dust to pop off in one. Give me the ranger green one.

  18. Got my new double shoulder rig in the mail and it is sweet. I already have many holsters and belts for CAS from Bob and love them all but this one is a mite different. It is for my two G42 380 pop guns in a vertical muzzle down configuration. It conceals real well under my "uniform" of a Magellan fishing shirt over a t-shirt. Easy to forget it is even there. Fit and retention of the guns is perfect. Two thumbs up. The onliest thing is I am overly large and had to use the last hole at all 4 adjustment points so if I had to order again I would sure specify XXXXL please.

I know this post is useless w/o pics but us Luddites can not figger how to do that. So no sense in even asking, sorry. It looks just like it does on the website. Oh and the best part is not having to waist carry anymore. First time the gf hugged me tho she sez aha something new has been added but she never noticed before she felt them, To the casual observer they go unnoticed under the loose fitting fishing shirt. I love my new rig and highly recommend it.

  19.

Sounds like my experience with Remington "1858"s. That fun moment while the palm of your hand is being branded and you pause in your shooting string long enough to maintain your coolth before pressing on!

"coolth" -- now there's a cool non-word. So cool I would be so bold as to nominate it to full-fledged word status...
