  1. After wearing a suit and tie for over 40 years, I graduated back to jeans when I retired. Still slim enough not to need suspenders, I wear a belt with my First Place, Classic Cowboy buckle, almost every day, just to impress the girls!☺LOL
  2. We seem to be in danger of losing sight of the main issue here: That a man with known mental problems and known to the authorities was not being watched or cared for, while he had access to firearms. We are fortunate he did not get access to explosives. What can/should we be doing about those with mental issues having access to firearms or explosives, while preserving our privacy and rights?
  3. Don't worry your topknot. We'll sit right here in the cold and snow, suffering the occasional bout of freezing rain, trying to get enough wood chopped to keep campfires and the stoves going. Don't fret about us, shivering here in the cold and dark, wondering what the Little Potato and the lovely Katherine are going to pull next. You just go ahead and enjoy the African sunshine and warmth. Don't you think or worry about us. We'll be fine. We all like impersonating frozen human icicles. HEY YOU DANG KIDS! GET OFF MY SNOWY LAWN! GRUMBLE - GRUMBLE MUMBLE - Miserable cuss bails out on us, leavin' us here with that bunch of no-goods. In the winter cold, while he gallivants off to warmer climes! Sunny Ways! HAH! Oh well, at least one of us is out of it for a while.
  4. A word to the wise: I have a RV I use going to the matches up here, in Canada. In 2015, I took it to an October match, (no hook-ups), the temperature dropped overnight, froze the pipes and blew some connections. In 2016, I winterized the water lines, brought some water containers and saved myself a lot of trouble.
  5. I used a short water soak, then stuck some 10 ga. shells in the loops until things dried out. Pretty loose now, but I can't bend over with shells in them!!!☺
  6. Prayers heading south from this cowboy for the Parson and his family. Lord give them the strength needed for this time of trial. Blessings+
  7. Weird ain't it? Canada is arguably the one of the lowest Carbon emitters, Carbon neutral or even a net minus producer, due to the way our forests absorb carbon, according to some scientists. So The Little Potato, taxes the bejesus out of us, while the largest emitters, like China and India get to walk or sell their carbon credits! OK, now I'm GRUMPY! GET OFF THE DANG LAWN!
  8. Digging out of the drifting white stuff. Gave up trying to keep the rear deck clear - knees are too sore and # 1 son's butt is dragging when he returns from work. Cleared drive and walkways are good enough. They're extra wide to accommodate the vans and collector car(s) that won't fit the garage. Don't see many (any?) of the ones who were supposed to migrate to Canada. Maybe they heard of the cold weather and taxes? Hope they make out real well in the warmth of Venezuela like we recommended they try! Have a GRUMPY New Year! AND GET OFF THE LAWN!
  9. Thanks for the tutorial Bugler. The pictures and text are a real asset. Much apprecited. I'll be reinforcing my VTI tab(s) while the snow is covering us up here.
  10. Wisht I could. Pards are off the the wilds of Calabogie, north of here for a day in the bush. My knees say: "Too sore for that! You sit by the campfire and suffer!" This gettin' old bit ain't fun. Think I'll try another type of knee brace.
  11. Interesting! Prayers up for Ted. I'm waiting to get both done. Good to hear about the results.
  12. I soaked some cruddy brass in vinegar to help clean it out, before I had a sonic tumbler to augment my dry media tumbler. I guess that's why I started to experience case splitting. Any danger that CLR does anything like vinegar does to the brass?
  13. Merry Christmas to you and yours Grey Beard. I'll even throw in a Happy New Year! Another year older today. Taking the clan out to dinner at the Rideau Carleton Racetrack and Slots (Harness track) for Christmas dinner this year. Yay! I don't have to cook! Grump: She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed has another group coming in tomorrow for dinner. Cookin' anyway! (Get off the Lawn!) Jabez: I'm jealous of the 6 foot wide plow; but not the size of your driveway in winter or the 4 hours it took to clear it. Stay Grumpy and, well, Merry Christmas! Oh, and a Happy New Year!
  14. Shoveling. Wet and sticky snow. S'blower won't handle it. Clogs in the chute. GRUMPY as Heck! NOW GET OFF THE LAWN!
  15. Howdy back at ya! Nippy here today. Started the snow blower and blew the driveway clear although the wind picked up and started it drifting again. She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed is looking at southern travel maps and Florida hotels but I want to be around for Winter Camp! (1791 more posts before the thread goes "POOF!")
  16. How well would it handle a Canadian bush road?☺ Clearance high enough?☺☺ How does it do in snow?
  17. I agree Oddnews. A company relying on the MH as it's sole product won't last. It would have to be part of line-up of other products. A company such as Uberti being an obvious choice.
  18. Yep. Same here. Don't want to spend time loading in summer. Too short up here to waste inside loading. Counted up the scheduled matches, figured out the ~round count, checked the number of loaded rounds left over from this years supply, counted empties and started the process. (Missed four year enders as well as the Upper and Lower Canada Wild Bunch Championship's after that that fall I took and busted three ribs, so I had around 500+ rounds of .45 Colt left over, plus shotgun and .45 ACP) The dry tumbler first, de-prime only, check case length, trim and de-burr, then into the Sonic cleaner. (I like my brass nice and shiny! Must be the magpie in me!) I'll load enough to ensure I can get through the matches with some practice along the way. Local LEO's did a "GULP" one day, when they stopped for coffee and saw the stocked ammo shelves in the gun/loading room. I showed them the match schedule, numbers of stages and the anticipated round count and they understood. Trying to get them to join us for some of the fun, but their shift schedules and young families kinda preclude that, but they have a standing invite. Must say one lad was really intrigued by my shiny SASS .45's so I may see him one day when match days and his Saturday off coincide. NOW GET OFF MY SNOW COVERED LAWN! (Yer gonna disturb the cinch bugs in there!)
  19. Got close to 10" here in the last storm, but the windsure piled up drifts! Patio door off the deck has a drift almost 3 feet up the window. Oh well: snow blower is working and #1 son said he'll shovel the deck once he gets home.
  20. My mother told me about this day and listening to the news with horror. My Father was a pre-war, Royal Canadian Air Force Regular, stationed at RCAF Station, Rockcliffe, in Ottawa. Great Britain, Canada and the rest of what is now the Commonwealth had been at war with Nazi Germany, since September 1939 and the prospect was looking grim. He and my Mother had only been married for three months and he was expecting his overseas (British Isles) transfer, momentarily, having just finished his embarkation leave. Monday evening, December 8, he returned from the air base and told her "With the Americans now fully in, we just won the war" Thank you America for your sacrifices. You helped my Father and most of my uncles to survive.
  21. Oh Jabez, Where ya been? We got no worries no more. The Little Potato and his merry men are making it all legal. If we're all tokin' like he wants, we won't care anymore and he gets to be PMFL, just like his Daddy wanted to be. Get with the program boy!
  22. Full Buckhorn on my '66 (Uberti) My '73 has a semi-buckhorn that I think I'll switch out for a Full.
  23. My woes? ! We ain't got enough time right now. Maybe later over a rum or three. (You know, the one Red Storm and I like: that 8 year old Bacardi the folks below the Medicine Line can't get!) OK, OK, Knees are aching pretty good even with the braces, pills and cortisone; snowed last night and it's still coming down - about 4" on my rear deck right now. Good thing # 1 son is home from work today HE can shovel while I try to run the snow blower after it stops. Found out I'm now married to a 71 year old woman, who now claims she's going to start counting backwards. Oh well, I suppose she's going to start on me on the 25th when I turn 73. Oh well, coffee's made and the waffle iron just "beeped" Later 'Gator HEY YOU KIDS - GET OFF THE LAWN! YER GONNA DAMAGE THE WEEDS!
  24. Well, here we are in Ottawa, December 2nd, snow all gone, raining. Again. Can't even get out for partridge. Flu season getting underway with the cold and damp. OK, I'm GRUMPY Now, GET OFF MY LAWN!
  25. Here, in and around the Ottawa Canada area, (Ottawa Valley Marauders, Wild Turkey Posse, Ruff's Regulators etc. we opted out of providing food during the spring, summer and fall matches and reduced the price per match accordingly. We provide cold bottled water, but the matches are advertised as "No Chuck-wagon" affairs and shooters bring their own lunches. Our sole winter match, (February - "Winter Camp") is the only one we'll provide hot beans and coffee in addition to what the shooters bring for their lunch.
