  1. Winter Camp 5 today, with Red Storm, Regulator, as Posse Marshal/Match Director/Chief Waddie. Temperature a balmy -12° with some snow. Heated shooting cabins and a beans hot lunch around the wood stove, with pards in the club house. What could be any better? And there I sat with a banged up knee that I had trouble bending and couldn't shoot. That makes me Grumpier than ever! Rooster, Territorial Governor, had to leave with a cold anyway and stayed away from my place. (And here I had stocked extra coffee just for him!) Thanks to the pards and buckaroos who stayed to help put away the steel and strike the shooting sheds. Now: GET OFF THE LAWN!
  2. Bueler? I mean Jabez? You out there somewhere? Anywhere?
  3. Naw, that ain't it at all. Actually, skunks don't smell at all! The MSM just made that up to conceal the fact it was the smell of pollytishons! Trust me. I read it on the internet.
  4. When is Jabez returning? Or has he decided to remain in Africa until the weather warms up here in Canada?
  5. Where, in Canada are you heading? The Ottawa Valley Marauders, (Ottawa area). The Wild Turkey Posse, (Prescott & Brockville areas), Ruff's Regulators, (Cornwall) are not too far from the Medicine Line and put on matches almost every Saturday through out the spring, summer and fall. FYI, you can get a Possession and Acquisition Licence, (PAL) to allow you to bring modern toys into Canada.
  6. I watched a landing on one of our Canadian frigates, in rough weather. They drop the winch line, from the centre of the airframe and the deck crew hooks to a winch and ring bolt on the deck. Pilot then powers up and tries to lift the ship, while they deck crew winches the helicopter down. Neat operation.
  7. Service the lawn mower? 42 ° ? I'm still scraping ice off the driveway after running the snow-blower! Getting ready for Winter Camp 5 during our winter festival - Winterlude! Skating on the Rideau Canal, snow-shoe races, cross-country skiing, sled dog races, sleigh rides, trail rides on our snowmobiles. Up here, we learn to play in the *^%&%$* stuff! Now: GET OFF MY LAWN!
  8. Page three? Humm, that ain't good. Doing some loading for this summer, after looking at the area's scheduled matches. Gonna need lottsa bullets. Waiting patiently for Winter Camp February 11 Oh yeah, GET OFF THE LAWN!
  9. I took a couple of nice big does with my 1866 in .45 Colt, during one season. Took a nice buck with my 1885 in .45-70 and I use my "Wyatt Earp" open hammer 12 ga. when I hunt partridge, rabbits and grouse. My Browning BSS now feels lonely and neglected in the safe. No handgun hunting here in Canada for a long time.
  10. I pretty well settled on Trail Boss, but I have also used Varget. One of my .45-70's liked it. The other three didn't. For the 100 and 200 yard ranges I have available to me, I found TB driving a 350 gr lead bullet was hitting the gongs consistently and grouping well on paper.
  11. Try reversing them, but beware of back splash.
  12. Clubs around our area of eastern Ontario, Western Quebec charge a match fee between $15 and $20 Earnings go towards buying/repairing steel, props etc. I feel the pain of some pards here whose ranges aren't as co-operative as ours at the Eastern Ontario Shooting Club. After a long, painful process, we finally got our new, dedicated CAS range approved by the Chief Firearms Officer for Ontario, thanks to the persistent efforts of the owner of the range, the late Ray Charbonneau.
  13. If he left in a temper and hasn't been back, because of a DQ he earned, he was likely too embarrassed by his own behaviour. Open the door for his return, but keep an eye on him for a return to whatever earned him a DQ in the first place, especially if it was a safety issue.
  14. Rained Out!?!?!? Around here, we get froze or blizzarded out!
  15. Well now Mud Marine, if you joined up with us in the Stealth Bullet Shooting Society, you wouldn't have to worry about things like that!! Now: GET OFF THE LAWN!
  16. Congrats on getting her out to play. Now watch her start to out shoot ya! That happened to me years ago, when we used to shoot ISU. She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed was then with the Queens Cowboys and shot well in training with her service pistol, to the point that her transition to what I was doing came easily. Unfortunately, her health now keeps her out of the game, but she doesn't begrudge the time I spend on it now in my retirement.
  17. Or as we tell newcomers to the snow country: "Don't eat yellow snow!" And Stay off my lawn!
  18. Hardpan: I'm in Ontario, Canada, so our employment laws are likely different. That said, here in Ontario, Canada, the circumstances of your leaving, could be construed as a firing. Here, if your labour lawyer gets involved, you may get a very hefty pay-out for every year you were with the company. Food for thought. In any case, enjoy your retirement, but if mine is any indication, you'll be busier than ever!! LOL 1
  19. Imis, you is too polite. Almost as if you ain't a real GRUMP, but I'm thinkin' that's an aberration. -15° by the thermometer on my verandah at 9:30 this AM Supposed to warm in to -9° The road into, around and inside the range is plowed, but no shirt sleeves or shorts here today. The boys and girls will have the wood stove going and a coffee pot bubbling, in the club house, feet up and chewin' the fat between trips to the firing line. NOW, GET OFF THE LAWN!
  20. The male equivalent of the Barbie collectables
  21. Hire a home inspector and get a full report on the condition of the home. An inspector will look at and find things you would likely never think of. Recently, the fellow I know found asbestos, mould, faulty wiring and improperly installed roof joists in one house he inspected. Another had fire damage the current owner "forgot" to mention.
  22. Well, I guess with Jabez off to the Dark Continent, (is that term PC?) for the warmer weather, I guess it's up to Grey Beard, Mud Marine, Imis Twohofon to keep the campfire going. AND STAY OFF THE LAWN!
  23. Retired at 59 with 40 years service, with the same City. Earned an MBA, a CPPO a CPPB and CMM(1) along the way.
  24. One consideration is the availability of brass for your rifle. I have passed up a number of them for that reason.
  25. Around here, the shows are also crowded and the much of the stuff is overpriced junk. But it sells. The last buy I got was over 25 years ago, on a quite new, wood stocked, scoped.308 Weatherby Vanguard in carbine length. The current owner told me he couldn't get it to shoot, so he bought some other rifle and just wanted out of the Weatherby. So. after a little look-see, I bought it at a distress sale price he was asking, c/w scope, and took it to the range. Sure enough, it was all over the place. I took it home, removed the stock and sanded out the high spots touching the barrel. Took it back to the range and found it shot MOA. It became my go to deer gun for quite a while, until a buddies sob story about needing a rifle got to me and I sold it to him. Wish I still had it.
