  1. I guess I'm out in the country so far that I really didn't know that there was a "black national anthem"! I watched the Super Bowl and thought that it was just another of the opening ceremony celebs singing some of their BS songs. I couldn't care less , but do resent the NFL shoving it down our throat.
  2. How about some of my hunting rifles. First is a sporterized 1903 Springfield I've had for 70 years . I made the Maple stock. Next is a custom .220 Ackley Improved Swift, I also made this stock. Next is a .257 Weatherby and last a Number 1 Ruger in .300 Weatherby. I hunt with them all.
  3. Sure glad I took a Life Membership when they were first offered. If I remember rightly, I paid $250.00.
  4. I'll stick with mine, propane and 110V electric. I had a cabover camper with a 110v/12v/propane refer. I used the 12 v a couple of times, very inefficient and really sucked the battery dry even when driving.
  5. I have a 2011 Denali 28" travel trailer made by Dutchman. It replaced a 24 Dutchman which had gotten a little small as we were planning a 3 month trip to Alaska back then. Dutchman was an independent manufacturer who made a great product. Today, I'm not sure what I'd buy IF I WAS IN THE MARKET! My Denali has been stored since it was new, indoors. Sure keeps the UV damage to the finish to a minimum. I am 82 and the Denali completely fulfills my wife and my expectations. I learned a long time ago to do all the maintenance myself as we have owned rv's for over 50 years.
  6. I use JB Weld, it is almost impervious to everything.\!
  7. The thing that really bothers me is that a quality control inspector should have inspected the job when it was complete. The sequence of operations is : Mechanic logs into that particular job with man # or an id that can be traced back to who did the job. This is done in case there is any question about the mechanics ability to do the job (eg his training, certifications, etc) Mechanic gets the parts called out per job instructions (nuts, bolts, washers, etc) Mechanic get tools necessary (torque wrench, etc) Mechanic follows job instructions and when complete calls for quality control inspection. Inspector checks calibration on tools, checks torque on bolts and checks that all the sequences are done properly and per specifications. Inspector "buys " job as complete per spec. If not a discrepancy is written to correct any errors. This is the sequence of how a operation is completed and verified used in the aerospace industry, no matter what the product is or who is doing the work.
  8. The Boeing situation is a structural build sequence during the assembly line process. A similar situation in an automobile assembly process would be not torqueing the main hood, deck lid or door hinge bolts. Definately not something a dealer would inspect before the car is delivered. Not really a comparable situation.
  9. Know it all attitude and arrogance is what got the Challenger crew killed. NASA knew about the outside temperature launch limitations and launched anyway when the outside temperature was below the "No Launch" limitations. The "O" rings got too brittle and broke causing the SRB blowout and subsequent explosion.
  10. I worked 40 years as an aerospace engineer. I worked on programs where Boeing was our subcontractor and we were Boeing subcontractor. The one thing that always bothered me was the arrogance of their people I dealt with. their attitude was no one knew better than they did , because no built better (and more) BIG AIRPLANES THAN THEM. They were our major subcontractor on the B-2 Stealth Bomber program and they people just gave me fits with their attitude. I got to the point where my answer to them when they had excuses on why their quality and schedule did not meet out standards was "I don't give a damn about your excuses, just go fix it and shut up"! They have obviously got some problems on their assembly line that needs fixing....just go do it!
  11. For me the only problem is that they are streamed only. I live rural and our high speed internet is too slow to stream these shows. I have read every one of the books and just love them!
  12. After I watched the first couple of movies, I really got turned off. Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher.....what a joke!
  13. This is what you posted. They are not making planes now and NASA doesn't make planes....never have.
  14. By the time the testing get done and the results analyzed, it will be at least 5 years before anything is designed and put into production.
  15. NASA doesn't make anything, they contract everything out! I spent 40 years in the industry and NASA is basically only administrators, engineers and bean counters.
  16. Not for the near future. It will take years for any technology change to be incorporated into anything new.
  17. XXX! Originally I put "What the F___" initials and this is what I got!!!!
  18. Had a screwdriver, need the vitamin C to ward off the cold!
  19. There is a difference between diesel and gas engines, especially in cold weather. I have a Ford diesel (my 4th one since 1983) and it has a block heater that also heats the fuel system when it is plugged in. It also has remote starting from my key fob. In the winter I always plug it in and remotely start it before I am ready to go. The cab heater/defroster also automatically goes on when the remote start is used. I don't remote start my car hardly at all except during the winter. It also has the same feature as the truck, remotely starting the heater defroster. No warnings in either owners manuals about idling. I remember my Dad idling his 50 Chevy in the winter to warm it up too.
  20. Just renewed a jumbo cd for 12 months @ 5%. Beats the 3 1/2% I was getting last year and the 1 1/2% 2 years ago.
