  1. I was drafted into the US Army on Dec 10, 1963. I remember raising my right hand and repeating the oath just like it was yesterday. I got on an chartered airplane at Los Angeles and got off in Shreveport, La. It was a rude awakening for some who had just graduated from college 6 months ago. I registered with our local draft board (We had one in our town) when I was 18 in 1959. There was no draft then as it was pre Viet Nam. Looking back, it was not as bad as I thought it would be. It really taught me to live by my own wits and that I was on my own. Lessons learned have lasted me all of my life.
  2. I don't shoot ANYONE'S reloads but my own, I just don't trust anyone else. There are too many variables with case sizing, bullet seating and rifle headspacing and I make mine to fit the rifle I am reloading for. I don't remember any issues with the 03A3 on heat treat, it was a specific to the 03 early production models. Springfield Armory below 800,00 serial number and Rock Island below 286,507. They has single heat treatment and the metal in the action was brittle. My Dad had one that he sporterized and sent it Pachmayer and they reheat treated it in about 1946. He shot it until he passed away in 2012....I have it now.
  3. Once they leave the gravity and earth's atmosphere, they need very little fuel. They need some fuel to burn the engine again to turn around and return to earth. If they don't burn the engine to return, it could go on to who knows where in space. Once they get it turned around and going back to earth, earth's gravity takes over. They some more fuel turn it around and slow it down so it can land on earth safely.
  4. They are doing the same thing that Apollo 8 did. What makes it a farther distance is they are going a little farther from the moon before they turn around to come back to earth. Big deal! I'm kinda blase' about this moon trip. Fresh out of college I worked on the Apollo and Saturn programs. I also worked on the Space Shuttle. To me it's like reinventing the wheel.
  5. Been there, done that........but a long time ago!
  6. I had a lot of teak on a boat I used to own, It was used in salt water mostly. I used to use teak oil on mine, usually once a year. The combination of heat, saltwater and sun used to bleach the natural oil from the surface of the wood,
  7. I seem to remember he was moving from Lake Tahoe and he was having health issues.
  8. Back in the late 60's, early 70's (Can't remember which), I was working as a Manufacturing Engineer on the B-1A. It used massive amounts of Titanium in the wing carry thru and the wing pivots. We were on the leading edge of technology for Ti use on the assembly line at that time. My Manager left and went to Fairchild Republic to oversee assembly on the A-10. They were having a lot of problems with the Ti used for protection of the pilot and to support the gatling gun it had in it's nose. He called me and asked if I would come to Fairchild and help them out with the Ti on the assembly line. I said no as I didn't want to leave my current job. The next day our Vice President of Manufacturing called my into his office and said I was being loaned to Fairchild for a maximum of 90 days. I almost fell over at being told that as it was very unusual. I went to Maryland and got their problem solved. That plane was a tank. Everything was over designed for it's mission. I have lots of respect for it's design and mission performance. I hope they keep it flying as there is nothing that will replace it.
  9. I am a life member of the DAV, Disabled American Veterans. They represented me in my dealings with the VA 40 years ago, even went to court for me. Sued the VA and won. I can never pay them back. I also contribute monthly to them.
  10. I like it too. I only live about 50 mile NE of the Navajo Reservation where it mostly takes place. I go to Monument Valley frequently to take pictures and I recognize several of the areas they use in the show. The one thing you have to remember is that it takes place in the 70's and everything is set in that era. I laughed when in a scene they used an old dial telephone, put me in their time for sure!
  11. I like it. It is better than most of the crap that the major networks show us!
  12. I'll be watching! Sam Darnold, QB for the SeaHawks, was QB for USC Trojans. I played for USC, but way, way before Sam did. FIGHT ON!
  13. I seen them all (it's a series) a couple of times. I was a little disappointed in the actor they cast as Teddy Roosevelt, just didn't measure up to what I envisioned.
  14. Sure looks like Lone Cone.
  15. Ah yes....that is Lone Cone. The east side of it.
  16. Gas here is $2.85 for 87 oct, diesel is 3.50
  17. When I started driving in 1957, gas was less than .20 cents a gallon. (usually .17-.19. When there was a gas war it usually7 was .15.....and that was in California!! When I was in HS I had a part time job pumping gas in a gas station (Signal Gas Station). I think I was paid about .50 cents an hour plus I got a free tank of gas every week in my 1950 Chevy. I addition to pumping the customers gas, I cleaned the glass, checked the oil & air and all with smile! Those were the days.
  18. I was working on the Apollo Project in Downey, Ca. at North American Aviation where we were building the command and service module. I was a sad day indeed. The 3 who perished in the fire were in the plant all the time. I was 26 back then and it was my first full time job after graduating from college.
  19. Today's VA is very different than when I first went to them regarding my service connected disability. It is much easier dealing with them now. When I started 50 years ago, it was like a prizefight. I too have VA supplied hearing aids. They will replace them when they get too old. I am due for some this year. I ALWAYS get them to service/repair my old ones which I keep as spares just incase my current ones need to go in for repair. I live over 50 miles from a VA clinic and I use a local Audiologist which is under contract to the VA,
  20. Thats the way I have done for at least 10 years. If I have to log out/log in/ log out/etc every time I look at the forum.....I'm gone. Been a member of this forum for over 20 years and have never had a problem with scams or spammers. There are several informational personal sites that I belong to(mostly medical & financial) that use a double entry system and I usually log into them about 5 or 6 times a year. I look at this forum (and several others) multiple times a day. The new system is going to be a PITA. I am sure I am not alone in my feelings and you will be losing members..
  21. SASS Alias: Big Sage SASS#49891L FROM: Dolores, Colorado SHOOTING SASS SINCE 2002
  22. I just believe that we have enough categories, all this does is confuse an already confused situation. What's next...maybe circus clown? We could have different costumes, age based or BP categories. Get my point?
  23. That's all we need is another category....even unofficially. Start bashing........................
