  1. I used to carry that li'l brown bottle. And then, when I had my annual physical a few months after the divorce was final, the doc said "Ya know, Hardpan, you really don't need those anymore!" And now, over twenty years Nitrostat free!
  2. "They" have done it before ~ last year, San Francisco, for the Chinese visitors: https://www.quora.com/What-do-you-think-of-San-Francisco-s-cleanup-in-preparation-for-Chinas-visit
  3. I watched the US / Canada match yesterday - outstanding athleticism! The US team of 5' 6" Kristen Nuss and 6' 4" Taryn Kloth was quite impressive.
  4. That movie creeped me out. I think I was seven when my two teenaged aunts hauled me to the theater to see it.
  5. El Chapo, I think you may have mis-read Trailrider's post - he is NOT saying that "contributions from outside a person's constituents ought to be legal" - just the opposite. We see a LOT of that here in california - the "reigning party" very much plays monetary contributions like pieces on a chessboard. The party is known pay heavily to influence elections in other states. Also, they will make significant contributions to the minority party's weakest candidates within california, with the intent of ensuring that their own candidates will not have to face better qualified opposition at the polls.
  6. I'll watch! At least, I'll watch the events that interest me ~ and perhaps "peek in" on a few others. I enjoy good athletic competitions; the debacles of the opening ceremonies (and as @Subdeacon Joe pointed out, it was only a small part of the ceremony) were not the fault of the competitors. And THEY should not be made to sacrifice their years of hard work because of some misguided sponsors or organizers (or politicians*!). *Under order of then President Jimmy Carter, the U. S. boycotted the 1980 Moscow olympics. I worked with a fella who was on the Track and Field team - don't recall which discipline - who had worked for years to make the team. He was downright disgusted. Now, there was a reference above to new "non-traditional" sports. Again, folks can do like I do - watch those that interest you, and ignore the others. Regarding "new" or "traditional" sports, I'd remind all that there have been a BUNCH of historic events that no longer exist; these include such "time honored" sports as steeplechase... standing high jump... 100-meter running deer and dueling pistol shooting events... and dozens of others. As long as they don't allow any Lia Thomas's, I'm okay with the "O's."
  7. Reuters: Biden will announce Supreme Court reform plans on Monday, Politico reports AP: House Democrat is proposing a constitutional amendment to reverse Supreme Court’s immunity decision I doubt that either was thought up by the President hisself... but hey, there's something calming about the fragrance of boiling tar accompanied by the squawk of chickens being plucked.
  8. Well, today's news sez that we may soon be seeing not one, but two proposed Constitutional Amendments: One would set Supreme Court term limits; the other would remove immunity for presidents and certain other officeholders. The second follows in the wake of the court ruling in July that presidents cannot be prosecuted for "official acts" during their time in office. Wow. BTW - The last amendment (27th) was passed in 1992; it basically said that Congress could not give themselves a comensation increase - any raises approved could only take effect after the next election.
  9. Well... we HAVE been invaded. The number of people here who've illegally crossed our southern border is the equivalent of aproximately one-third the population of california.
  10. The Glomar Explorer was a totally different ball o' wax. She had huge doors in her hull that opened onto a "moon pool" what allowed cabled equipment to be lowered through her bottom. I drove past her hundreds of times when she was mothballed in Suisun Bay near the Benicia-Martinez Bridge, with the Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet in the background. There used to be literally hundreds of "retired" Navy ships stored there - anchored and rafted for as far as you could see when motoring along in a fishing boat. As of last year, all but seven have been scrapped. Glomar Explorer Portion of Suisun Bay Reserve "Mothball" Fleet
  11. But I ain't worried. Nope, now worried one bit. 😊 Gov Gav sez he's gonna save us all from the climate! Invest in sweaters and muk-luks NOW!! 😃
  12. On my front porch, in the shade, slight breeze wafting through at 1645 (4:45 PM) this afternoon: 🥵
