Thx Billy! My youngest has moved to Colleyville recently and I’d like to combine visits with shooting. Someone told me it’s 1 1/2 hours to Ten Horns from Colleyville . I can’t imagine Bar 3 being  any closer??

  2. I've been watching this discussion as I have others on this subject. Until now I haven't felt the need to contribute but I guess I will now.

I started shooting(and joined) in 2003. In 2007 , I had to stop due to health and career conflicts. I let my membership lapse at that time. When I was able to I "re-join" , so to speak, in 2013 I called and found I could re-acquire my sass number and alias so I did.

Although I'm hard pressed to quote tangible benefits to my membership, the intangible ones are the ones that matter to me! The people I've had the pleasure to compete and be associated with are one of the highlights of my life. I'm retired now and can travel to some annuals as well as EOT. I have and will continue to cherish the friendships and sense of community! Pm me and I'll be happy to elaborate.

    Thank you ALL,

  3. They are lighter, have thinner wrists, and can have a bump step modification done to them. These were the biggest reasons that my times dropped when I switched from my stoeger.

What is a "bump step" modification?

  4. I too see a fewer Cross Draw's in use. I've used a Cross Draw rig for 25 yrs. I am in the process of recovering from hand surgery and when I am ready to make my "Comeback", I plan to attempt to use two Strong Side holsters... It will be a Major change for me after 25 yrs of choreographing my game to play to the Cross Draw style holsters, and re-training muscle memory is not going to be easy. for me. I have always stood sideways to the line in order to not have to do the "Twist", and always draw the Cross Draw first. This has allowed me to make a faster move to the Right... I'm already facing that direction, and putting the Cross Draw away with the off hand can easily be done on the move. However, for me it is a detriment on a Right to Left stage. I do believe that using two Strong Side holsters opens up more possibilities for the shooter. Many of the newer style Strong Side holsters make it easier to perform handgun transfers from one hand to the other. I encourage new shooters to start out with two Strong Side holsters. It goes a long way toward keeping the Cross Draw gun from breaking the 180.

I switched about three years ago to double strong side. Made a BIG difference in my times!

  5. I have a 26" bbl, Japchester '86 in .45-70 and love it.

Put a MVA tang sight on it and have no issue with 500 yard steel.

One thing-That crescent butt stock is NOT your friend with heavy loads.

I run a Lyman 420gn bullet over a dosage of Unique powder.

    OLG

According to what I read these new pedersoli's are supposed to be superior to the "Japchester".

That's what I'm investigating.....are they ,in fact, that well made???

  6. What do you call 'long-range'?

What caliber are you looking at.

For real long range(500+ yds)look at a model 1874 Sharps in either .45-70 or .45-90.

    OLG

Big bore lever side matches usually 200-300 yes. Used to shoot an 1895 Marlin Cowboy. Looking for something a bit heavier(45-70 of course!)

  7. Just recovered from eye surgery and can see again. Time to start back shooting Cowboy long range. Saw a YouTube video on this rifle and was wondering if anyone has one and how they like it. It's supposed to be a truer copy than the Miroku rifles and higher quality to boot???

  8. Your inquiry brought the following idea into my head....

On the back of the cart, a classic old west shipping crate, labeled Winchester repeating rifles or some such. Open the hinge lid back (towards the front of the golf cart), and two uprights hinge up from the ends, and then a cross piece installed between them with long gun barrel rests. In my vision, the crate would have enough room to store the long guns and a bit more when closed up and be locked up.

    Grizzly Dave,

I wish I could post the pictures here of what took me 18 months to completely tear down to the last bolt sandblast, paint undercoat, rewire, and design a great back cabinet set up with a drop down table. I sent them to Ninety Caliber by email. Kats sick and went to bed or she would maybe post them if she takes her nice pills in the morning. The Irish Mafia is mean  in the morning. Not sweet and lovable like me.

    Great idea Dave!

    Got the pics Rev, awesome!

  9. Am looking for a better way to carry my guns when shooting off my golf cart. EOT and other large ranges where I need mobility help. Have seen some really cool cabinets pards have built on to their golf carts. Since I'm looking for ideas would love to see some pics. Pm for email if you can't post picks.

Any ideas would be a big help
