    Got it apart with no problems. Thanks again. It was indeed a broken sear spring. Will order some new springs today.

    Most likely a Broken Sear Spring.  While you have it apart, I would suggest a pair of Slix Spring Sear Springs.  Download the Slix instructions to go with 'em.

    Thanks a lot everyone for the info. Appreciate it. Will try today. Bought this and within a few shots the right hammer failed to cock. So we'll see when I get it opened.

    I bought these old Colts years ago. One was re-blued and polished badly. The other had the wrong barrel and a bad restoration.  I got a really gooood deal on them. I think I owe them a new life. Hopefully they'll bring some joy to someone else when I'm gone.

    All good points Cholla. I've been collecting Colts for a lot of years. The only ones that I would refinish are ones I have that have already been "molested". This old argument has a few sides. I understand them all. But the bottom line for me is: "It's your gun do whatever you like with it".

    Anyone had any recent good experience having a gun polished, re-blued and color cased? I've had a few done in the past. Some have priced themselves out of sensible range.  Any thoughts? Thanks

    Glad to know about the super light spring. I’ve tried the adj. screw still no pop. I thought about getting a small washer or two under the spring like your plug. Will try that. I’m with you about grinding springs. It’s hit or miss in my opinion. $36 for a stock spring is a lot if you grind it wrong. Thanks for the tips.

    Howdy. I've been working on a few 73s and just can't seem to get the right spring tension on the hammer spring. It's either too stiff or it won't pop a Federal primer. One gun is all nice and smooth with a short stroke kit, alum. carrier, Whisper Springs and a Sure Hit Super Light hammer spring. It wouldn't even set off a primer. I replace the spring with a stock spring and it fires fine but it takes gorilla to cock the gun. Any ideas?

    Thanks for the explanation. I'm pretty sure I get it.

    You obviously get rid of the stock flat safety spring?  Leave the sear spring screwed in place.

    Does anybody actually use these springs?

    Will try install later today.

    I used your instructions on how to modify a 73 bolt for use with a Shotgun Boogie SS Kit and it worked great! Thanks. BC

    They are good (Turnbull). They are expensive. They have the longest turn around time. They are under new management. They have done several for me in the past.

    Anybody have any recommendations on some one to restore two Colts.  I already know about Turnbull, and Bobby Tyler in Texas.  The original finish was gone when I got them, so please no lectures on that subject. I'm leaning towards nickel finish. Thanks.

    I've been shooting and tuning real Colt's for more than 25 years. Lots of rounds down range with my Colts. I have never had a broken handspring. When I just got a Rodeo II to see what they were like, the handspring broke in less than a minute of dry firing. That's when I thought about the trend to coil spring these guns,  Bob Munden did it with Colts but I see no need for it.

    I have noticed people talk about sending their USFA's to gunsmiths (Longhunter comes to mind) to have action jobs. I totally understand that but is there a reason they do a coil hand spring mod. Do USFA's have a stock flat hand spring problem?
