I also stated the need for a national stolen firearm database accessed by the general public to find out if a firearm is stolen so that private purchases can be made without concern.

I don’t make private purchase from people I don’t know.  Period.

Government is inept now so why would a stolen firearm database be reliable?

They have phones as some classes require them to use it for class work and use certain apps

And if a student doesn’t have a parent financed phone does the school (taxpayer) provide one?

My kids didn’t have cell phones until they were in college and working to pay for it.

  3. Settling dad’s estate.  The birth certificate county provided had dad’s middle name wrong.  County insisted they were correct until I showed them dad’s original birth certificate.  They agreed to reissue birth certificate with the correction but refused to correct their records because Dad’s original birth certificate was issued by a hospital and not by a governmental agency.

I’m on the Board for a conservancy district.  20 years ago the Board bought property, had it surveyed to acquired a legal description and gave the legal description to the county for recording.  Now we want to install ground based solar panels which requires the county’s blessing.  County tells us the legal description they recorded is off by 100 feet and demands the district have our property resurveyed.  I wonder what assurance we’ll have that the county can record it correctly this time?

These days, being lazy isn't just reserved for delivery drivers. It appears that finding an employee that genuinely cares about their work is extremely rare.

I believe that’s some of the problem.  The rest is as we (I) get older the less tolerance we (I) have of less experienced people.

  5. Our telephone company delivers their phone book by throwing it in the ditch by our mailbox.  Twice I’ve found it squished into the mud by the USPS delivery driver.  I dig it out and throw it into the trash.  First time I called the telephone company their explanation was USPS will not allow non-USPS items to be placed in the mailbox (true) and would take their delivery driver to long to place the phone book on people’s front porch.

What I really can’t figure out is why they publish a phone book anywho?  Since Al Bore invented the Internet I used it to lookup phone numbers.

  6. You’re really trying to get me to mess with the rods aren’t you!

And since I have it apart….you think my table sander with course grit paper would be up to the job?   :D

Seriously.  Lead Monger posted his rods were 3.668” and he took them to 3.635”.  That’s .02 shorter then where my are now.  I’m quitting while I’m ahead.

Have you checked out Ken Griners web site and what he does in his tuneups?

No I have not.  At this point I don’t want to ship it (and the related hassle) to a professional.

  8. I got my courage back up and decided to have a look see at the Cocking Rods.

Removed the rubber butt-pad by removing the two screws with a Phillips.  12 MM socket and long extension to remove the bolt that holds the stock to the receiver.  Then removed the side plates by removing two screws per side plate.  Now I have access to the "guts"

Here is the Left Cocking Rod.  Opening the action causes the Cocking Rod to be pushed forward cocking the Hammer.  When the action is closed a spring pushes the Cocking Rod rearward.

    IMG_2601.thumb.JPG.a5a80f61a077b38c8442412bda74185b.JPG

To remove the Cocking Rod you need to remove this pin.  I used a hammer and a punch.  I discovered a hammer wasn't needed, pin was easily pushed out with a punch.

    IMG_2602.thumb.JPG.5d9d2b250da0be1029262970ccda8c43.JPG

I pushed the pin to the center.  This created more effort to reassemble.  If I was doing it over again I would have taken a large paper clip, bend a ninety in it and pushed the pin from the inside out.

    IMG_2603.thumb.JPG.fa2ad48f5bddf7d14316a5134f45676d.JPG

Spring tension is released when the pin is removed.  I kept my finger over the end to keep the spring from sending parts into orbit.

Look like the manufacturer used some type of brown oil for lubrication?

Left Cocking Rod I miked at 3.657".

    IMG_2607.thumb.JPG.1e9ea1f39ae1dcdf3fab5d2dbb0fe253.JPG

The right miked a bit shorter at 3.651.  Nostrum Damus recommends, "...shorten the rods to the point where the hammers, after firing, are ALMOST BUT NOT ACTUALLY touching that inside wall of the receiver. " I didn't feel comfortable shortening my Cocking Rods, I have the tendency to over do.  I cleaned the parts, oiled and a dap of Tipton Molly Super Lube where the Cocking Rod contacts the Hammer.

If after this year's SASS season I might reconsider, order replacement Cocking Rods just in case and follow Nostrum Damus's suggestion.

Have the renewal bill on my desk but for various reasons I will never shoot another match and $69 a year is a bit expensive…

Yea I thought of dropping the expense too.  Then Obama made me mad so went Life instead.  Also gave me the excuse to attend my first Land Run.

Seeing the pic, I'd just go with a metric set screw of the appropriate size.

Just got home from taking the wife out for supper and a stop at Menard's.  5mm x 6mm Metric Socket Head Set Screw is the replacement.  Extractor wobble greatly reduced, no longer a potential problem.  And while I have the LockTite out think I'll put some on the the smaller extractor rod (after de-oiling) to "glue" it in the barrels.

The factory set screw should be long enough.  You really don't have to go much farther than how it was originally installed to get it to work.  As long as the screw doesn't run out of internal threads, yer good to go.  A drop of Loctite or nail polish works to hold it.

If you do need a new screw, any good hardware or farm store should have it.

Factory screw is not long enough.  Head bottoms out (runs out of threads).

Amazing, the condition of the extractor guide rods out of the box. Mine were rough as a cob as well. I like your idea for extractor modification. Doesn’t the extractor rub on the breech face when closing the action enough too prevent it from trying to rotate?

I believe it should normaly.  Unfortunately my set screw is short by 1/16" +.  CZ is made in Turkey, threads are metric, my thread gauge says 0.75 and Al Bore's Internet translate that to a M4.  I'll offer to take the wife out for supper and swing by Menard's to find out if they have an internal hex head screw I can adapt.

Make sure that the bottom of the set screw is flat, screw in until it’s slightly snug on the extractor rod, and then back off just enough to allow the rod to move freely.  Doing this will allow the extractor to work as intended without interference from the cutout.

Unfortunately my set screw is too short to snug on the extractor.  I'd guess about 1/16" + too short.  Now I'l thinking of ways of I can make it longer within my skill set.

Perhaps a longer screw cut to length and a screw driver slot cut on top.  Then a drop of Locktite.

I do have a metric thread gauges.  With the aid of my fat fingers holding the short screw and a magnifying glass threads are 0.75, whatever 0.75 means.

How much does it rock/rotate side to side now?

Yes, on the jewelers saw ;)

Enough that it could be possible to interfere when closing on empty chambers.  I’ll thinking a wide shim between the flat part of the rod and set screw might solve that problem.
