  1. Rather than spring for the high $$ commercial ones online, I took advice from a SASS form cowboy, and ordered parts from Amazon: a battery box (five for $9), and a pager vibrator motor (six for $10); this way you can share with your friends at a cost of $4-5 each.

With a bit of wire, solder, and a few rubber bands, I was able to make a nice one for use on the powder baffle.  Here is a shot of the two parts and then the entire setup. The red arrow shows the vibrator motor rubber-banded to the baffle.

For about $20, some imagination and some Velcro and AA batteries you can make five…

I have no commercial interest in this company, just passing along a tool that was rather handy.

I find wrangling the loading gate spring to be a pain when disassembling/reassembling a New Vaquero. I used this tool recently and found it to be super convenient so I thought I’d pass it along. It’s sold by RW Grip Frames.

JUST SAY NO to the hammered double! Gunmakers moved on from that design for a reason!

I love my hammered double.  Easy to open, and I've got the cocking routine down.  The extra 47 seconds it adds to my time is offset by all the style points I get

(Be it known, Nostrum Damus is always at the at/near the top of the leader board, while I'm lucky to break into the Top 50 when we have a match of 37 shooters)

  6. Johnny shut down some time ago.  His website is still 'there,' but he's stopped making his fine leather products

I was sorry to see him go

I have had good results with Brownells Oxpho-Blue cream as well.  Good Prep is the key to good blueing.
