When my family and I returned fro 2 1/2 years on Okinawa my dad fried up a mess of fresh trout and Mom mad a rice pudding. I explained that 2 1/2 years on Okinawa sort of soured me towards fish and rice. Dad cracked up laughing. Mom was hurt until Dad explain what I meant and we ended up going out for fried chicken.

My wife would have agreed, but I can't stand it. The dog loves it, though, so I keep some on hand for special treats.

Once upon a time long long ago I was a Company Commander of Okinawa. We were a "transient Mess hall", meaning we were open 24/7 for anyone traveling through Okinawa to anyplace else. It also meant we got extra rations and money to buy food on the local markets. I was blessed with SFC Letholian Waddles, a chef of the old trackside hobo jungle school who could make a cast iron stove taste good. He turned out meals that even visiting Generals raved about. Never ate his own cooking and explained that, "if you're in it up to your elbows all day every day you simply don't want to eat it. He went to the NCO Club for lunch and home for dinner.

Boy, does your education have a gap that needs to be filled... soon!. Stauffer's makes a passable frozen mix that works when I'm in a hurry. Over toast, biscuits, even English muffins. It stick to your ribs like the real McCoy.

I love to make SOS once in awhile. Army style with hamburger or Marine / Navy style with chipped beef. Add a dash of tabasco and some fresh ground black pepper and it's a meal all by itself.

Beat me to it. Rowdy is semi-retired but he's as good as there is, especially on percussion revolvers. -
Chrysler...
Forty Rod SASS 3935 replied to Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967's topic in SASS Wire Saloon
The Chrysler folks have been doing that for years. My '54 Dodge had spark plugs at the bottom of a "well" so you needed a magnet to get them out, and the oil filter was between the engine block and the exhaust manifold. I still have nightmares about the water pump, too. Aside from that it was a great little car and after some tweaking (Thank you J. C. Whitney, Moon, and Sears) she ran light a purebred. Later, with a '56 Dodge pickup engine and a four on the floor and some other things, she was nearly unbeatable..... but still a bitch to work on. -
Couldn't hear any scrapes? With the three jabbering people talking through the whole thing I couldn't have heard the mountain fall on him. Mighty fine driver, though. Wonder what he gets paid to do that and how often he does it.

I've hd three pedigreed dogs, a Cocker spaniel, a beagle, and a Portuguese podengo. I have had two chihuahua mixes, a dachshund, a couple more beagles, a Springer spaniel, an English pointer, a pair of Boston terriers, and a bulldog, all unpapered and unbranded and, when I got them, untamed. Only two dogs I ever gave up on: the dachshund and the Springer. The dachshund was an "ARMY DOG", passed along whenever his family got transferred and never anywhere long enough to bond or be properly trained. He was a pathetic little guy who was neurotic, very timid, and totally confused by his changing world. He ended up an office pet for the military shelter at Naha-Machinato supply area on Okinawa. The Springer was just plain mean and wouldn't get along with the other dogs. A retired First Sergeant who was working as a civilian at a National Guard unit in Ogden, Utah got him and they were meant for each other. I prefer rescue dogs because many of them don't have chance if they aren't adopted. I have never found much difference in their intelligence or in any physical way, and they have usually been very loyal, smart, and protective of the family.

In digging through my "stuff" I came across a 4 blade pocket knife that had belonged to my grandfather. He may have brought it back from England when he was working for the LDS church in the late 19th century. It has embossed silver scales and is 3 1/8" long closed. Both sides are identical and have the word "STERLING" in very tiny letters on each one. The blades are a 1 3/4"spear point with about 1/2 of the top sharpened as well as the fully sharpened bottom edge and a 1/2" screwdriver blade on one end. The other end has a 1 1/4" blade similar to the 1 3/4" blade described above and a 1 1/4" spear point with a fingernail file on both sides. The knife is in fair shape but there is a lot of rust and discoloration on the blades. Can anyone tell me of someone who can clean and restore this little knife? I'd like to get it in shape to return it to daily use, more as a novelty than as a real working knife. I also have a brand new Marble's Safety folding fishing knife like one my dad used for fishing and hunting for years. I have the original but it is beyond repair. The new one cost me a whopping $19.95 plus shipping and has a flaw in the hold open mechanism. It isn't even a "mechanism", but a small piece of metal, riveted inside the handle shell, that prevents the blade from folding when the knife is open. This piece is too small and I can't see a way to remove it and replace it with another properly sized piece. I'm told the blade is one of many originals that were sent to China to have an aluminum handle (no t nickel-plated brass like the originals) fitted to it. I'd like to find someone who can remove and replace this little metal stop so I can use it in daily carry. Thanks for any info anyone can give me.

Another beautiful musical number. Where are these marvelous young singers coming from and why aren't we hearing more of them?

My ten pound chihuahua miniature pinscher mix has slept with me almost every night since my wife passed away. It helps.

I remember in the past that forging was considered to be superior to casting. Is that still true and if so, why?

Does in Arizona!

Well then, I'm a sissy. Wanna make something of it? Well, do ya? Is your answer is YES then show up any time and bring your own burying box. If your answer is NO then show up any time and I'll take you someplace really nice where you can buy me dinner.
