Le génie humain a des bornes, Mais la sottise n’en a pas.
Indeed, you are correct, sir. Einstein made similar comment.

Prices can vary by region, but around here that would be a $350-400 gun.

If I had to be executed, I would want to go by firing squad. That said, everything everybody has brought up in this thread holds true: The victims didn't get a choice!

Why do I click on Alpo threads?

Here's one I'm looking at, but someone mentioned the crescent style butt plate can be painful. This one doesn't seem like it would be bad. Does it have to do with the individual shooter's body shape? Shooting position?

My question is how long do the horses last. They seem to be running all the time.
I would guess that they would have had to rest them quite often. Maybe they grease
the wheels when they rest the horses?
That's an observation most non-horse owners no longer make. Kudos, pard! Yes, one must consider that a horse is not a machine, and like any person, has to stop and rest, and get a drink of water every now and then. When Mrs. Cassidy and I are riding our horses, we water them every time we find a stream or puddle.

Which ever you buy be sure it has a shotgun style buttstock and not a crescent. The Crescent may look cool but it can be brutal.
Lots of good info here www.BPCR.net
Thanks, it looks like 15 pounds is the limit, so the Quigley would be allowed.

I've been drooling over Sharps rifles since 2004, when I was fortunate enough to return home from Iraq and attend the California state SASS match as a reward to myself (it was held at 5 Dogs Creek in those days!). A fellow shooter / veteran / guest attendee had the "Quigley" model Sharps, and let me shoot quite a few rounds through it. I'm here to tell you, once we dialed in the ladder peep sight, I didn't miss a single shot at 600 yards. Not one. I fell in love with that gun, especially the double set trigger!
So I've wanted one ever since, but only recently did I begin making any real efforts to afford one. Now I'm getting closer to the goal, and I haven't decided between the Old West and Quigley versions.
The Quigley is the heaviest, weighing in at 13.5 pounds. The Old West weighs 11.5 pounds. The thing is, I like the barrel on the Quigley better, but the shape and quality of the stock on the Old West. So it's a toss up.
In any event, although I don't currently shoot BPCR, I would love to someday. Will the heavier 13.5 pound Quigley be allowed in that game? Or should I play it safe and stick with the Old West (man that wood is awesome!)?

I made some hardtack to eat once; as an avid historian, I just wanted to experience what the CW soldiers experienced first hand. It was as awful as they all claimed, and mine didn't even have weevils and vermin in it!

Dude, I'm a Bears fan. My team has been to the Super Bowl twice in my lifetime, and hasn't won it since 1985. One thing you know about me by admitting I'm a Bears fan: If nothing else, I'm LOYAL!

No, but I got to shoot a burst through one once.

Tell me about the place. I just found out I'll be traveling there regularly for the next few years.
Are there any SASS clubs?
Don't the Arizona Diamondbacks play there?

My dad still has his favorite dog's collar. He died when I was a teenager.

I can't stand my Lee for bottom pour applications. I admit I'm *very* finicky when it comes to tools; I do NOT like messing with the tools just to get them to do what they're supposed to do. I want them to WORK like they were designed! Lee will get the job done, but you'll spend a lot of time messing around with the tool.
For your price range, buy an RCBS. You cannot go wrong with green! I've never used the Lyman pot, which is quite a bit less expensive than the RCBS, but I know a few pards who have burnt out a Lyman.

Yep, I've been making jokes about "rock or something" since the thing was invented.
