Also for K-9 Lovers like me Have you ever had this happen??

Image may contain: outdoor and nature, possible text that says 'awkward moment when retired bomb dog hits on a hike dpan a.com'

Our dog is a retired Military Working Dog (i.e. Military Police K9).  He was a drug sniffer.  A few years ago we had him at my son's Little League baseball game, and he alerted on some pothead walking past.  I'm also a retired cop, so I had to remind him that we are both retired.  He was SOOOOOOO disappointed; it just about broke his heart.

The second image is Tom Brady, former star quarterback of the New England Patriots - and the current record holder for the most Superbowl wins - 6.  For US fans, a very big deal.

Correction:  He has 1.  The first five were PROVEN to have been tied to cheating scandals, either during the Super Bowl itself or during the season to get there.

Given that record, I'm convinced he cheated for #6 and simply didn't get caught.

I noticed the poster of this meme is in Australia.  For those of us in the US, a "Warrant Officer" is vastly different from those in Australia.  Theirs is more like our Sergeant Major.  Our Warrant Officers are in-between the officer and enlisted ranks, and are technical experts in a field.  They are not designed to command or fill staff roles like commissioned officers, nor are they designed to train and lead of soldiers like our NCO corps.

In actuality, this meme makes MORE sense in the US than it does in Australia!!!

  4. I live in Montana... not many see-leb-erty's 'round these parts. Hank Jr. and Randy Weaver can be seen at gun shows occasionally. Becky Munden still shows up at Cowboy shoots now and again, but not to shoot, just to get out, I think. Sat next to Eddie Albert on a flight from Vegas to San Francisco about... 1975 or so. Coach. Must have had a bad weekend at the craps table. Met Bill Jordan in the restaurant of the Rainbow hotel in Great Falls in June of 1988. The Keiths were friends of my grandparents, and I met Elmer several times in my youth. Charlie Pride was a good friend of my parents way back before he hit it big as a singer, and I've met him a few times.

I got Charlie Pride to autograph a baseball for me.

An autographed baseball from a country music legend, you ask? Yes, very few people know that before making it big in music, Charlie Pride played professional baseball in the Negro Leagues.

  5. As a lifelong Bears fan, I am required to hate Green Bay. But that was one heck of a game, and you can't take anything away from Aaron Rogers. I only hate Green Bay because I'm a Bears fan, not because they deserve it :)

See the thread on Tom Brady. I have every reason to hate him. I'll go so far as to say if you are still a New England Patriots fan after all the times they have been PROVEN to be cheaters (Brady and others included), I question your integrity. Literally. I don't care where you're from or which team you grew up near, no one with an ounce of integrity can stand behind them.

So despite being a die hard Bears fan, guess who I'm rooting for next week? Eeek, I can't believe I'm saying this:

    *holds nose* Go Green Bay.

  6. Oh I forgot. Once I met Richard "Goose" Gossage, the first Major League relief pitcher to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The only thing is, I didn't even realize it until minutes later. His hometown is where I currently live, but I never knew that until the announcement about his HoF induction was released.

This was in 2008, the year Gossage was inducted. I was in my friend's gun store, and only one other customer was there. The other customer had made a purchase and was waiting for the background check to come through. I casually mentioned to the store owner, my friend, "Did you hear Goose Gossage got into the hall? That's awesome. No relief pitcher has ever done that before."

The customer walked up and asked me if I liked baseball (baseball is almost a religion for me). He asked if I was a Gossage fan, and I told him, "I just like baseball. I remember him playing when I was a kid, but I wouldn't know him if I saw him..." and a few other things. Fortunately I didn't have anything disparaging to say about him :)

We talked about baseball for a few minutes, but he never told me who he was. The background check came back, and my friend told him he was good to take the gun. The customer excused himself from our conversation, took the gun, and left after exchanging pleasantries with my friend, who called him, "Rich" and smiled at me.

    Doh.

  7. I met a whole bunch of professional wrestlers in 2003. Every year, the WWE (the current name of the biggest professional wrestling company) goes to Iraq or Afghanistan and puts on a show. I wasn't anywhere near the show, but they came out to my FOB to do a meet-and-greet.

Everyone I met was cool to my face, but I've read not all of them are pleasant people in real life. Several stand out:

    - Chris Benoit, who four years later murdered his wife and children before committing suicide.

    - "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, who has since been arrested for abusing his wife. He was very cool with us, and even held up an American flag when we re-enlisted a soldier.

    - Torrie Wilson, a blonde bombshell who was extremely nervous and outfitted in body armor and a helmet. She almost had a nervous breakdown when someone stupidly mentioned the fence 50 feet from us was separating us from people who were desperately trying to kill us. Once she realized all the G.I.s' cameras were snapping, she was back in her element and went full supermodel and smiles.

    - "The Big Show," who is billed as being 7 feet tall. He really is. One of my female troops was under 5 feet tall and they posed for a picture together. He broke away from the crowd and shot baskets with a few people who had put up a makeshift hoop and covered the desert sand with portable flightline.

    - Eddie Guererro. He became a bigger name a few years later, and then died prematurely. A lot of the non-fans didn't know who he was, so I was able to exchange pleasantries with him for a few minutes. There is a current female wrestler who goes by Sasha Banks who lists him as her inspiration. I'm a fan of hers, too (they have drastically changed the programming regarding women, and they are now treated as serious performers and with respect...I had stopped watching for years because of how nasty they had become with women, but I believe the company is preparing McMahon's daughter to take over running the company, so her influence has caused a massive reversal).

    - Vince McMahon himself. I didn't converse with him much other than shake hands. Word on the street is he is a real-life jackwagon, but I don't know.

    - "Farooq" aka Ron Simmons. He didn't have much personality.

There were more, but I don't remember everyone.

    What celebrities have you met?

  8.

    Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha..........

Better luck next year, Denver. Envy is rather unbecoming.

    LL

I'm a Chicago fan, fyi...I only live in Colorado; I'm not from here.

Plus, EVERY single one of Tom Brady's rings is associated with a cheating scandal. Every. Single. One.

  9. That Shiloh will shoot it's best with BP.

BP is easier to clean up than Smokeless.

Very good BP cleaner is Windex multi-surface with vinegar. ;)

With the Shiloh .45cal, 1/18 ROT. The barrel really likes the heavy bullets(500-550gn).

At Shiloh, ask for Kirk or Lucinda(owners). Both hunt with, and shoot competitively with the guns they make.

FWIW: My first Shiloh was a 34" bbl Hartford in .45-70. Shoots like a LASER.

My competition gun is a #1, .45-90, 30" hvy bbl. It too is a LASER.

Both of my Shiloh's run MVA sights. Soule tang, w/#113 front.

Cry one time and don't go the cheap on sights.

    OLG

I've been reading up on the sights. I think the long range buffalo and the #113 will do me; I like having the large amount of windage adjustment.

I'm also wondering about .45-70 vs. .45-90. The latter is *not* proofed for smokeless rounds, but the former is. So, assuming black powder rounds, do I need the extra 20 grains to get me out to 1000 yards accurately, with the heavier bullets you mentioned? Being able to shoot a smokeless load with the .45-70 is attractive to me.

Dunno...I have about $1400 to go, so I have awhile to ponder it.
