  1. Hello all

Wanted to give a shout out to Cimarron Firearms for being one of the great sponsors at this years EOT

I won a Pistolero .38/.357 in the door prize drawing.

It is a Uberti, full blue with a nickel trigger guard/back-strap, 4 3/4" barrel, a truly beautiful gun!!

Shot it today and it is a smooth operating gun.

The fit and finish on it great!

Thank you Cimarron for your continued support of SASS and cowboy shooting.

If any new shooters are looking for guns, Cimarron has some great stuff!

    Thanks again,

    Asa Smith

    For your viewing pleasure.....

I think I have one sitting in the back of the safe. It came with a rifle I got in a swap a few years ago. I have been told it is one of the “old” 66 rifles. I am a truck driver and I won’t be home until Friday this week. Send me a PM with a reasonable offer plus shipping and we’ll go from there if your interested

I have an entire 1866 45 Colt carbine for sale.  Bolt included.  You coming to PcC this weekend?

    Tucker

I am emotionally attached to this gun :) and am hoping to keep it going for  a while longer....

I will miss out this weekend unfortunately.

If all else fails I will keep your offer in mind.

    Thanks for all the help.

I ordered a new bolt assembly from Taylor's and will contact one of the gunsmiths suggested.

Hopefully the new bolt assembly will work an i can get the original fixed for a backup.

Thanks to all for the help!

    Asa

  4. Ordered a new bolt assembly from Taylor's.

Planning on sending off the original for repair to have as backup...

    Thanks for the help

    Update:

Received the new "new style" bolt assembly from Taylor's.

It fit right into the gun with no modification or "tweeking".

    Works like a charm.

Now i plan on sending off the old one and having it as a backup.

    Like the title says.

The tab on the bottom of the bolt finally broke off on my trusty old 66'.

I thought it was the extractor but when i disassembled it i found the tab gone.

This gun has never been short stroked and has all factory internals.

Looking for a factory part or info on available options. I would like to have the gun up and running as soon as i can....

Checking VTI and other options, just thought i would check here...

    Thanks for all helpful information,

    Asa

PS: I have owned this gun since 2003 and bought it used, not sure of the date of manufacture but think this is considered the "old" design.

    Any helpful info appreciated...

VTI is out of stock on the old (pre 2008) design bolt...

  5. Hello all,

Does anyone know of a knowledgable gunsmith that is familiar with, and capable of, replacing the cam on the original hammer?

The cam on the gun appears to be miscast and does not function as designed. On this gun and Ubertis the cam appears to be  cast as part of the hammer.

I am wanting to have a solution that allows me to retain the hammer that came with the gun.

On my original manufactured 1863 sample the cam appears to be a separate hardened part that is pressed into place through a hole in the hammer.

    Any useful information appreciated...

    Thanks Asa

  6. I dug my 1860 Army conversions out and shot them, hadn't done that in years.

I was reminded of the issue i encountered the first time i shot them. The firing pins are sharp and puncture the primers making them hard to  cock on followup shots.

(Tried different primers, same issue on all).

My original has much wider pins that are more rounded.

Question: Does anyone have a source for replacement pins?

Or is there good info out there (Youtube or otherwise) on smoothing off the pins to prevent this from happening?

    Any useful information appreciated.

    Thanks

    Asa
