  1. I had to show this Video of a good TO, Lucky Lead Pepper, helping Deadwood Miner through a stage! By the way Deadwood was 93 when this video was made, he’s 94 now and shot this month at Wartrace, he’s my hero!! Randy

  2. Visibility is key. It’s 2024 if your club doesn’t have a Facebook or other social media presence you’re not going to reach future shooters. Your club should be posting videos after every monthly match. Even during the off season. Your page should state when your club shoots, WHERE YOUR CLUB IS LOCATED WITH AN ADDRESS THAT CAN BE PUT IN A GPS. List any specific club rules, and a point of contact. Does your club have an annual match? Again it’s 2024! You need to be able to register online, and pay immediately. Young people will not print out an app, write a check, and mail an envelope.

  4. Since this has gone off track with hypothetical "What if...?"s and stage rewrites... The correct call (i.e. CLEAN!) was made for the reasons explained (in detail) by @Creeker, SASS #43022 et al.

  6. No. The OP is delivering their subjective opinion of what happened. The only person who KNOWS what they intended is the shooter and honestly - what they intended is immaterial to the call. What WE actually know and can score on or potentially assign penalty on is the following. The shooter had 10 pistol rounds to knockdown 5 pistol targets. AND we know that misses on the PISTOL knockdowns do not count. Shooter engaged pistol knockdowns - in the course of engaging pistol knockdowns; a PISTOL round struck and knocked down a RIFLE target. Shooter completed the pistol knockdown string and placed remaining rounds on the pistol dump target. Lets score this so far. Misses on pistol knockdowns do not count. All pistol knockdowns were down before transitioning to the dump. Shooter had no misses on the dump plate. So no miss penalty is present. The pistol round that struck the RIFLE target is immaterial as for purposes of scoring - targets assigned to a specific type firearm DO NOT EXIST for any other type firearm. The pistol round striking a rifle plate is not a hit, nor a procedural as that target is "not present" - it is considered "air". So no misses - no P for pistols. So now rifle - there exists 10 RIFLE knockdowns with 10 RIFLE rounds to engage. One RIFLE knockdown has fallen - in this case because of an errant pistol round; but the reason is immaterial (under other circumstances, it could have been wind, rack vibration or a host of reasons). So having 9 available targets (with NO assigned order) and 10 rounds for engagement - we KNOW one round will be designated for "air". The shooter struck three targets - 4th went to air and then completed the knockdown string. There is NO definition of "shoot where it was" - a round safely discharged downrange from the proper firearm at an appropriate time in the shooting string is sufficient. As there was no shooting order - the rifle round designated for air could be expended at ANYTIME in the rifle string. 10 rifle rounds expended - 10 knockdowns down. No rifle misses - no p. Clean shooter. In THIS instance - the pistol round that struck and knocked down the rifle target was (assumedly) an accident. I "could" see other penalties (SoG) being applicable IF the shooter were deliberately attempting to take down rifle targets by pistol for some form of advantage knowing they was no other penalty for doing so. But thats a different discussion.

  7. For over 10 years I have refused to get a 44-40 caliber gun. Absolutely adamant I tell. LOL The 44-40 is a fiddley case, prone to bend easy, bottle neck rubbish and a bugger to expand and load and an extra step to crimp. Plus very easy to get mixed in with 45 colt. A person would have to be out of their mind to own one. Monday, I swing by to pick up some canvas loading bags I ordered from a nice lady. ( Jax Leather) and the husband said I looking to sell some sequential S/N Uberti 73’s all tricked out and a slicked up 73 Oct barrel Uberti steel ringer. (4speed w/posi traction and 3 duces) And he said “they are 44-40”. I picked up one pistol and my fingers would not move to the open position when I tried to set it down and walk away. I felt off balance so I picked up the other pistol. The same thing happened to the other hand. My first thought in times of stress is ‘God, grant me the courage to accept the things I cannot change’ The loading bags are great and very pleased. To keep this happy train rolling, I went to my local gun store this AM and they had a consignment NIB Starline 44-40 brass 500 count. (under a 100 bucks) This brass is gonna work really great in my new black powder SAS shooting irons. 44-40 of course. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it! SASS gives me more fun than any person should deserve.

  9. HIDE YOUR GUNS AND OTHER VALUABLES, LOCK YOUR HORSES AND WOMEN AWAY, GUARD YOUR WATER HOLES AND VALUABLE PROPERTY, AND PROTECT ALL OF YOUR TREASURES!!! FORTY ROD IS BACK!!!!! SERIOUSLY, MY THANKS TO ALL WHO WISHED ME WELL AND SENT PRAYERS UP TO THE BOSS. The virus is dead and I am still alive and kicking. I have several more afflictions to tackle but this one scared the bejabbers out of me. I have been very fortunate to have the BEST medical team anywhere, made friends of a few, and learned a lot from them all. Had a Chaplain pray with me and asked that this thing would be cured by the 20th of March. It was. They held me one more day to confirm that the virus was gone and to process the paper work and discharge me from the hospital. It was and they did. I haven't been a good man and not a religious one either, but I'm comfortable that prayer, sincerely offered and totally believed in, works. Thanks againg and God bless all of you. 4T

  10. There was a thread about octagon barrels a while back and several folks asked me to post pictures of mine when I got them back so here they are. I'm very happy with these. They're Ruger Single Sixes with the longer OMV grip frames, Snake Oil George 5 inch octagon barrel with brass sights, Jimmy Spurs full race package with extra set back triggers and custom base pins. I also added some nice aftermarket grips.

  11. Now that's a phone call I honestly never expected to get. I'm now a Great-Grandfather! Eight pound and change, 20 inches long, hair on his head and an appetite! They had a name picked out and I'm not sure but what they changed their minds on that, so not sure what to call him, but we'll figure it out!

  12. I will be curious how this goes, I personally would rather have the book given to me at registration. I will not have my computer nor phone on the range. How many shooters will not print off their own copy? How many shooters will forget to bring their copy? There is neither phone or internet service at the range. I don't think this is the right place to save a dollar. Just my view but we will see.

  14. My 6 bypasses heart surgery was January 2023. Last spring I helped my son plant potatoes but just a little and hurt a lot afterwards. This week my younger son and I disced a few acres and I was tired and slept good I didn’t hurt as much. last fall I tried a shotgun and it hurt but this week I tried again and it didn’t bother me. I still let my wife drive if going out of town most of the time, preferring to nap instead. I still wonder if it was really necessary but my wife says it was. still wonder why the random chest pains , still weigh less than I did before the surgery. i still hope to never ever do that again

  15. Our local Safeway market had it's Easter sale when it sells big hams and prime rib for really cheap prices. I bought a large prime rib and cut it into really nice rib eye steals. The prime rib was on sale for 5.98/pound. It weighed 9.8# and I got 10 nice steaks out of it. Rib Eyes for 5.98 a pound, what a buy! I also cut off the ribs and put them in my smoker and then grill them. We do it every year when they have a sale at Easter and Christmas.

  17. Last Friday, I was minding my own business at the South Carolina State match. I was shooting the last stage of the day about noon when my Uberti 73 rifle locked up with 6 rounds in the magazine. Crap!! I got home later that afternoon and took the rifle apart. After consulting with my personal gunsmith, Joe West, it was determined that my extractor had "lost it's temper". That sounds bad. He said it is. Going to need a new extractor. So, I got on the computer and found that VTI claimed to have them in stock so I ordered a Uberti extractor. I then found that Cowboy and Indians Store also had some superduper "CLAW" extractor in stock so I ordered one of those too. I have a bunch of big matches coming up soon and I don't have time to wait for back ordered parts. All this ordering was done over the internet and I never talked to anyone or expressed any urgency. Just a routine order. Today about noon, (Monday) I walk out to the mailbox and both extractors are in the mailbox. From Friday afternoon till noon on Monday. That was fast. I'm now back in business and ready for the rest of the shooting season. Well done VTI and Cowboy and Indians store. I call this a tie.

  18. Since so many awards are given at annual matches, I'm sure a lot of us have stacks of plaques (mostly the old days) and buckles (mostly these days). Many will wear one or two of their favorites on their holster/shotgun belts. But what about the rest, gathering dust? I did just order a buckle board from Ruby Red Rider that will display a dozen of them in a vertical strip. But then at the Comancheria Days banquet last night, I discovered a new way to display one, and you don't even need a belt. Inspired by rappers with all their bling, I present - - the watch chain fob buckle!

  23. I was in WalMart yesterday when the Store Manager came into the room I was in. He wanted to know why I was in their Breakroom. I politely told him that I was taking a break. He responded by advising me that the Breakroom was for employee use only. I advised him that I had just recently worked here. But you aren't an employee he retorted, to which I quickly asserted that I had just checked myself out at the self serve register.

  26. That's today. She got up about 0400 to use the necessary, when she came back to bed I greeted her with We got up, started the coffee and turned on the news to get information about the Baltimore Bridge I asked if she wanted to go out for breakfast. She said she didn't, but really wanted pancakes. Made a batch at about 0700. She went to the Tuesday Crochet and Cards at the clubhouse at 1100. I did dishes and such. She came home after only about 75 minutes, wanted to go to Taco Bell. As we were on the way I said something about wondering which way to go, at that time of day there isn't any way to get there.....or anywhere in town....that's not a PITA...so she said, "OK, Burger King, McDonald's, I just want to get out and have something different." BK it was. "Ooooo.....tacos, 2 for $2!" she said as we pulled into the drive through. So be it. Those things are pretty good ! As we were waiting I asked if she wanted to go out to Bodega Head. "Yes!!" Away we went. Told her that I wouldn't want a taco until we were on Hwy 12 West. "But feel free to go ah..."(CRUNCH)"had and start," I said as she bit into one. Then had to not snort crisp tortilla out her nose. Got out to Bodega Head....a beautiful N. California drive through some truly gorgeous country which she kept commenting on....and as we were standing there letting the bracing sea breeze (wind about 15, temperature about 58) wash through us I started to take out my phone to get a few pictures, stopped and told myself to just enjoy. Then she said, "Look atthecolors!" Now, she is working on a Crochet "temperature blanket." One row for each day, different color for each 10 degrees, high and low temperature, and some calculations for how many stitches for day and night so there won't be a straight line down the middle. Kinda cool. One of the tools she has is a program that will take an image and generate a color palette for it in however many colors you want. She's already planning the blanket for next year. I looked around and pulled out the phone to capture the colors. She should be able to get some good colors out of those . Only downside is that she has lost enough weight over the last. 6 months that her shoes are loose, so her feet slipped a little in her shoes, took a tumble on the sandstone, got some scrapes and scratches. Nothing serious. But even that had an upside...within about 10 seconds 4 or 5 people were there to help get her up, grab her cane, purse, and hat off the ground, asking if she was OK. Even with the fall she says she has had a great day.

  27. Here’s the latest from 4T!! They seem to have found some answers. The infection is viral, as opposed to bacterial and is in his bloodstream. From what I gathered in our conversation tonight, they’re treating him with appropriate IV medication. The outlook is now more positive. He says that they might have him out of the hospital by this coming weekend. He also told me that his local network of friends is caring for his little dog, that he’s receiving excellent care and attention, and that folks he’s spoken to are giving him some new places to dine and reminding him of some that he’d forgotten! This last item indicates to me that he is on the road to recovery because when he’s thinking of places to eat, he intends to go and try them out!! He said that I should warn all of you that he ain’t that easy to get rid of!!

He told me that they have made some excellent progress and that he already is feeling much better. He figures to be in the hospital for at least another week! That’s all I have for now!! Keep it up!!

  29. Last weekend I shot 10 stages with my ROA’s and they ran flawlessly. When I got home I got them out to clean them and one nipple on each cylinder was stuck. As is my normal practice I use anti-seize on every nipple whenever I put them on. The other five on each cylinder came out without issue and all still showed the anti-seize on them. I tried every trick I knew on the other two, soaked them with Kroil, froze them, heated them, and still the two nipples just laughed at me. As you can imagine I don’t liked getting laughed at, so out came the big guns. I had to drill them then use a left handed extractor but that taught them and they gave up the fight. I finished up by getting the correct size tap and chased out all the threads. Next I’ll throw the cylinders and nipples in the ultrasonic cleaner and get them nice and clean again just so I can put antiseize back on them and put them together. Hopefully the other nipples learned a lesson and won’t try to fight me the next time.

  30. Why does it not matter if it is a monthly match? Failure to follow and correctly apply the rules at monthly matches just means that when those same people attend bigger matches incorrect calls are made. Like it or not monthly matches is where we learn so we need to learn the correct way.

  33. A friend of mine was talking about opening a restaurant. He gave me some ideas for names he had come up with and asked my opinion. I told him since it was an American food type restaurant he should pick a name that sounded homey and maybe run by a married couple. I recommended the name: “Sam & Ella’s” He liked the name. It took him a few days to see the joke. He didn’t see the humor in it though…
