  1. Our local Safeway market had it's Easter sale when it sells big hams and prime rib for really cheap prices. I bought a large prime rib and cut it into really nice rib eye steals. The prime rib was on sale for 5.98/pound. It weighed 9.8# and I got 10 nice steaks out of it. Rib Eyes for 5.98 a pound, what a buy! I also cut off the ribs and put them in my smoker and then grill them. We do it every year when they have a sale at Easter and Christmas.

  3. I took my new Henry to the gun club today to shoot it. I took some hand loads and a box of Black Hill 250 grain .45 Colt. It was windy and part of the rifle range was in use so instead of setting up paper targets I shot steel target. The range has a variety of steel targets set up from 15 yards to 100 yards. I am very impressed with this gun. I like the balance, the way it handles and I like the tube loading feature. It also has side loading. With the Black Hills Ammo I was hitting 4” steel plates out to 75 yards. I had some 205 grain bullets over 5.9 grains of Trail Boss. It was like eating white cake after having chocolate ice cream with chocolate covered almonds and caramel. Blech… I then switched to my Taffin load. 255 grain RNFP over 8 grains of Unique. Man, what fun. It hit nearly everything I aimed at out to 100 yards. I just had to do a little reckoning at 100. I really dig the fiber optic sights. I could kick myself for not getting one sooner. Next range trip will be to see what it really likes. I want to make a special load just for this gun using 255 grain BCS RNFP bullets. This carbine has a high grin factor.

  7. A defendant was on trial for murder in Philadelphia. There was strong evidence indicating guilt, but there was no corpse. In the defense’s closing statement the lawyer, knowing that his client would probably be convicted, resorted to a trick. "Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I have a surprise for you all," the lawyer said as he looked at his watch. "Within one minute, the person presumed dead in this case will walk into this courtroom." He looked toward the courtroom door. The jurors, somewhat stunned, all looked on eagerly. A minute passed. Nothing happened. Finally the lawyer said, "Actually, I made up the previous statement. But you all looked on with anticipation. I, therefore, put it to you that there is reasonable doubt in this case as to whether anyone was killed and insist that you return a verdict of not guilty." The jury, clearly confused, retired to deliberate. A few minutes later, the jury returned and pronounced a verdict of guilty. "But how?" inquired the lawyer. "You must have had some doubt; I saw all of you stare at the door." Answered the jury foreman: "Oh, we did look. But your client didn’t."

  9. I too use Boattail bullets in all my hunting and target loads. I load them for .300 Wby Mag. 30-06 25-06 and .220 Ackley Improved Swift. Bettet accuracy and velocity. This is my .220 , notice the chrono velocity. I also did the stockwork on it.

  10. I use boat-tail bullets almost exclusively for the cartridges I reload with a bottle-neck case. These are the go-to for .243 Win. These are also a favorite.

  11. Several years ago I ordered some stuff from Midway. I was visiting my daughter in Atlanta. And I tracked this every day, because she lived in an apartment and I wasn't sure how they handled packages there. We shall say that it was due to arrive on the 8th. Because I don't recall the exact date. On the 5th the tracking said it was in Atlanta post office, and I was happy because I thought that meant I would get it 3 days earlier than I expected. On the 6th tracking said it was in Athens post office. On the 7th it was still in the Athens post office. But on the 8th it came back to Atlanta, and was delivered on the estimated day of arrival. Apparently it was against the rules to deliver it 3 days early.

  13. I have wanted a Henry Big Boy X model since I first read about them. I wanted one in .45 Colt. Every time I came across one I didn’t have the money to buy it or I had other priorities. My LGS had a brand new one for a while. They were asking $989.00 for it. When I decided to get it, it was gone. Probably a good thing. My bike needed tires and maintenance. Anyway, a used X model showed up in the display case of my LGS Saturday. They wanted $750 for it. I bought it today. I am looking forward to taking it to the range in the next couple of days.

  16. A couple of years back I bought a pair of revolvers and a rifle from a pard in South Carolina. I live in Oregon. He sent the pkg. registered next day to me via USPS. He received the pkg. the next day and refused it because it was to be sent to me, not him! Oops, their mistake so back to the facility it went and 8 days later it arrived in the next town to me where it was noted that the pkg. was refused and was sent back to South Carolina! Remember that it was originally sent to the wrong address first. 11 days later it was finally received by my FFL. 3 trips across country and 3.5 weeks later I finally got the revolvers. He sent the rifle to me the same day and I received it within 5 days. Go figure!!!

  18. That's today. She got up about 0400 to use the necessary, when she came back to bed I greeted her with We got up, started the coffee and turned on the news to get information about the Baltimore Bridge I asked if she wanted to go out for breakfast. She said she didn't, but really wanted pancakes. Made a batch at about 0700. She went to the Tuesday Crochet and Cards at the clubhouse at 1100. I did dishes and such. She came home after only about 75 minutes, wanted to go to Taco Bell. As we were on the way I said something about wondering which way to go, at that time of day there isn't any way to get there.....or anywhere in town....that's not a PITA...so she said, "OK, Burger King, McDonald's, I just want to get out and have something different." BK it was. "Ooooo.....tacos, 2 for $2!" she said as we pulled into the drive through. So be it. Those things are pretty good ! As we were waiting I asked if she wanted to go out to Bodega Head. "Yes!!" Away we went. Told her that I wouldn't want a taco until we were on Hwy 12 West. "But feel free to go ah..."(CRUNCH)"had and start," I said as she bit into one. Then had to not snort crisp tortilla out her nose. Got out to Bodega Head....a beautiful N. California drive through some truly gorgeous country which she kept commenting on....and as we were standing there letting the bracing sea breeze (wind about 15, temperature about 58) wash through us I started to take out my phone to get a few pictures, stopped and told myself to just enjoy. Then she said, "Look atthecolors!" Now, she is working on a Crochet "temperature blanket." One row for each day, different color for each 10 degrees, high and low temperature, and some calculations for how many stitches for day and night so there won't be a straight line down the middle. Kinda cool. One of the tools she has is a program that will take an image and generate a color palette for it in however many colors you want. She's already planning the blanket for next year. I looked around and pulled out the phone to capture the colors. She should be able to get some good colors out of those . Only downside is that she has lost enough weight over the last. 6 months that her shoes are loose, so her feet slipped a little in her shoes, took a tumble on the sandstone, got some scrapes and scratches. Nothing serious. But even that had an upside...within about 10 seconds 4 or 5 people were there to help get her up, grab her cane, purse, and hat off the ground, asking if she was OK. Even with the fall she says she has had a great day.

  19. In May it will be ten years since my wife Delia Rose and I started Cowboy Action Shooting. As of Trailhead last week at THSS, I've now competed in 99 matches! Here's a chart with a moving 5-match average of my average time per stage. (I'm a math guy I can't help myself) It took me about a year to get the hang of things and dramatically reduce my stage times. The spikes you see after that are when I did our local club's Wild Bunch category, which adds extra rounds and time. I switched from regular two-handed pistols to Gunfighter category four years ago at Trailhead 2020. My times went up a bit with it at first, but I have really improved within the last year after getting some good advice from other Gunfighter shooters. The best part of this sport is the interactions with other shooters. My stage times are now in the upper-20s or low-30s most of the time. I hope to eventually average in the 20s every match. I've done it a couple of times now, so I know I can keep getting better.

  20. I'll stick with the original, Green Jalapeno, or Chipotle. Others I like are Tapatio and Cholula. Get much over that and all it is is hot with no flavor.

  21. Regardless of the factors involved in the collision and what could/should have been done, what needs to happen NOW is get the wreckage cleared, the channel opened, and resume shipping operations! There will be ample time and opportunity for further investigation, analysis, and sadly, finger pointing, recrimination, and denial of any and all responsibility! Get what needs to be done to resume commerce and navigation now and then do whatever is needed to prevent it from happening again!!

  23. A quick update! Schoolmarm has continued to get better every day. She accompanied me to the doctor yesterday afternoon and kept me going. My doctor visit was kinda’ rough. I’d taken my bi-weekly injectable medication the night before and it sometimes makes me lightheaded. Yesterday was one of those times. I was “okay”, but any extended exertion would result in a need to sit for a spell and clear my head. The doctor basically interviewed me and we put together a plan for the near future. The antibiotic I am taking now is pretty toxic if taken for any extended period, so when my current prescription runs out, I go back to the one that the foot doctor prescribed after we took the cultures when I first realized that I had this most recent infection. He sent me to the lab to have new test run to make sure we have it whooped. It’s a pretty good distance from the doctor’s office over to the lab and when I got there I was a little winded and very lightheaded again. I got into the chair for the technician to get the blood samples and told her that I was woozy and that I was liable to pass out. She got the samples taken, but she had to stab me a couple of times before she got into a vein. I got entirely loopy and started greying out. She got me some ice water and kept me in the chair for about five minutes. After that I was able to get back to the car. I got seated and took a good ten minutes to get my head cleared before I took off. Schoolmarm isn’t supposed to drive yet, (she’s made a couple of short trips to the corner store) and it’s a good half hour drive to the house from where we were when traffic is light, but it was four in the afternoon and we were in downtown rush hour traffic. We drove a few blocks to a burger joint to grab some supper and to make sure I was okay to drive. She decided that I was good to go and we made it home without incident. She makes a purty good wingman!! I got a good meal and a good nap and after a decent night’s sleep, I feel like a human being again today! But I wonder if maybe this nasty antibiotic has anything to do with what happened yesterday!!

  24. It seems that either is acceptable. And, I think that technically, since the projectiles are hollow and filled with explosives, they are "shells." Just as with muzzle loading artillery which had solid shot, "common shell," spherical case, and canister. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/16-inch/50-caliber_Mark_7_gun The Mark 7 gun was originally intended to fire the 2,240-pound (1,020 kg) Mark 5 armor-piercing shell. However, the shell-handling system for these guns was redesigned to use the "super-heavy" 2,700-pound (1,200 kg) APCBC (Armor Piercing, Capped, Ballistic Capped) Mark 8 shell before any of the Iowa-class battleship's keels were laid down. The large-caliber guns were designed to fire either an armor-piercing round for anti-ship and anti-structure work, and a high-explosive round for use against unarmored targets and shore bombardment. The North Carolina and South Dakota classes could also fire the 2,700-pound Mark 8 shell with the 16"/45 caliber Mark 6 gun, although with a shorter range. The Mark 6 gun was not as heavy as the Mark 7, which helped both battleship classes to conform to the limits of the Washington Naval Treaty. However, the two treaty-era battleships fired their shells at a lower muzzle velocity, which made their plunging fire superior to that of the 16"/50 caliber gun.[6] The Mark 8 shells gave the North Carolina, South Dakota, and Iowa classes the second-heaviest broadside of all battleship classes, even though the two ships were treaty battleships, exceeded only by the Yamato-class super-battleships. Each D839 propellant (smokeless powder) grain used for full charges for this gun was 2 in (51 mm) long, 1 in (25 mm) in diameter and had seven perforations, each 0.060 in (1.5 mm) in diameter with a web thickness range of 0.193 to 0.197 in (4.9 to 5.0 mm) between the perforations and the grain diameter. A maximum charge consisted of six silk bags (hence the term "bag gun"), each filled with 110 lb (50 kg) of propellant.[1] and http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNUS_16-50_mk2.php ^Shell stowage for the South Dakota class was to be as follows: Each of the four mountings had 212 projectiles distributed as follows: 62 projectiles in the shell handling room 138 projectiles in the turret stool 12 projectiles in the shell hoists Turret #2 had 48 projectiles on the third deck. There were an additional 541 projectiles stowed in shell rooms on the first platform deck. In total, the planned stowage was 1,437 projectiles.

  25. That right there is one heck of a bargain. I looked for one of those for quite a while but eventually stumbled on to a Ruger #3 and so now I am complete. If there are any Cowboys looking for one of these he (or she) better not hesitate !
