  1. Back in about 1987 or so, Spaceballs was released upon an unaware, un-expecting, and innocent world. Over the years I have tried to watch all of it, but never got more than about ten minutes into it until I turned it off. Today I girded up my loins, fortified myself with snacks and sarsaparilla, and took my dog to another room where she would be safe, and watched the whole thing. I have never before seen such totally toxic excrement, and pray that I will never again have to do so. After something like ninety seven minutes this abomination ended and I realized that I had lost about sixty points from my IQ, and was suffering from the shakes, dehydration, and the loss of most of my self-respect. My tongue was swollen and i couldn't get my right eye to focus. I also lost several years from my visual appearance, what little color I still had in my hair, and am suffering from shakes and increased tinnitus. I am going to see if a mega-dose of Young Frankenstein, Casper The Friendly Ghost, and the Addams Family movies can get me on the road to recovery. Pray for me.

  2. Now, I have never shied away from who I am or where I work, unless in public around a bunch of strangers - you never know when you might run into an ex-inmate with a grudge. I've worked for Arizona Department of Corrections, (we really hate the term "prison guard", we are sworn state officers), for almost 24 years now, and I am one of those people that thinks that uniforms should be sharp and professional looking. This is why I won't wear the polo shirt/BDU pants uniform - I think it looks way too casual, and the embroidered collar rank insignia, to me, looks stupid. That's just me. The BDUs wear better, but I remember law enforcement in my youth looking sharp. For years, we could wear brown military style boots with all uniform types, and I deviated slightly from my standards to wear comfortable desert boots with my Class a and B uniforms. They also were smart, clean and professional looking. Then, the Department changed policy late in 2024... All boots with Class A and B uniform must be black, boots or low quarters. I have never found black duty boots that feel right, and I was not looking forward to spending another $200-$250 for boots I'll only wear at work, and let's be honest, mostly sitting behind a desk, since as a LT I have Sgts and officers doing the dirty work now. No, I don't feel bad about it - I've done my time down in the mud, the blood, and the beer. But then I remembered long standing policy, since we ARE an Arizona Department, allows both cowboy boots and white cowboy hats. So, in a fit of pique and thumbing my nose, I bought a pair of Roper style Cody James boots from Boot Barn. So neener. I suddenly remembered WAY back in the day I liked country music, (we're talking my Navy days in the late 80s, when I wore suede tan boots my mother bought me), and I tuned to our local channel, without a lot of commercials, 94.1, KRDE, The Ride. Hey, I haven't heard much of this newer music, and I enjoyed it. I loved cowboy movies back in the day, especially Tombstone, Good, Bad, and The Ugly, and of course Rooster Cogburn and the John Wayne True Grit, and I suddenly needed a single action revolver. Why? I don't know. So, since I now have a few shekels to spare due my new wife and her very smart money management, so almost on a whim, I bought an Uberti Birds Head in .357 at the local store. It just felt right. Man, I forgot how much fun single action revolvers were, and I had some fun with that little blaster. Now my loving wife, the NEW one who supports me in my weird endeavors, went along with this one, and I remembered there was this outfit that did single action shooting...why not check it out? I joined this board, went along with suggestions of watching a few matches with Rio Salado Cowboys up in Mesa, AZ, and met the awesome Colt Laredo, Hoopsnake LaVache, Kid Rich, the wonderful lady Claudia Feather and....HOOKED. Hook, line and battleship sized sinker. Thus, Dapper Dave from 1890's Casa Grande, (Terminus), was born. Howdy, ya'll.

  3. Such a BARGAIN! Two for ten bucks~! When I was a kid I'd buy 'em for a dime at the local mom 'n' pop store. Fifteen cents got ya one with a rubber-band powered propeller, and for a quarter a model with landing gear!

  4. I shot first on the first stage at the Alabama State Match one year and used my 1901 for the shotgun string. I was shooting 80gr loads of FFFg! One of my shots produced a smoke ring that was about six feet in diameter and it hung over the shotgun targets for the next four or five shooters!! After that, most of the posse begged me to shoot last!!🤣

  5. Lever actions are not mentioned only no more than 10 rounds , keep in mind this only applys to the state of New South Wales [ NSW ]...they haven't a clue..the biggest stupidity is they are banning 'belt fed shotguns', we all laugh about it as one of the shooters was loading an Adler type straight pull from his waist belt..' no hurt intended to those that lost loved one's '....lots of legal action being prepared & petitions of no confidence in the Federal Government. Those belt fed shotguns are as rare as rocking horse poo ..

  6. Several years ago, I was on a tour of the county jail with a local organization. Our tour guide was a Deputy Sheriff who also happened to be running for County Sheriff. At the end of the tour, he asked for any questions. I asked him, "What is your position on the Second Amendment?". He didn't hesitate for a second and answered, "Should have been the first." He got my vote and was not running on my affiliated party's ticket. I am a one issue voter.

  8. A truck driver was doing his usual delivery to Mental Hospital. He discovered a flat tyre when he was about to go home. He jacked up the truck and took the flat tyre down. When he was about to fix the spare tyre, he accidentally dropped all the bolts into the drain. As he can’t fish the bolts out, he started to panic. One patient happened to walk past and asked the driver what happened. The driver thought to himself, since there’s nothing much he can do; he told the patient the whole incident. The patient laughed at him & said ā€œcan’t even fix such a simple problem…no wonder you are destined to be a truck driverā€¦ā€ Here’s what you can do, take one bolt each from the other 3 tyres and fix it onto this tyre. Then drive to the nearest workshop and replace the missing ones, easy as thatā€ The driver was very impressed and asked ā€œYou’re so smart but why are you here at the Mental Hospital?ā€ Patient replied: ā€œHello, I stay here because I’m crazy but not Stupid!ā€

  20. https://attheu.utah.edu/science-technology/precious-computer-age-relic-turns-up-in-u-storage-room/ https://www.theregister.com/2025/12/23/unix_v4_tape_successfully_recovered/ Computer History Museum software curator Al Kossow has successfully retrieved the contents of the over-half-a-century old tape found at the University of Utah last month. UNIX V4, the first ever version of the UNIX operating system in which the kernel was written in the then-new C programming language, has been successfully recovered from a 1970s nine-track tape drive. You can download it from the Internet Archive, and run it in SimH. On Mastodon, "Flexion" posted a screenshot of it running under SGI IRIX. Last month, we wrote about the remarkable discovery of a forgotten tape with a lost early version of Unix, found by Professor Robert Ricci at the Kahlert School of Computing at the University of Utah. At the time, we quoted the redoubtable Kossow, who also runs Bitsavers, as saying that it "has a pretty good chance of being recoverable." Well, he was right, and at the end of last week, he did it. Ricci also shared a video clip on Mastodon. https://archive.org/details/utah_unix_v4_raw

  21. Yes. A pointed finger in the pocket counts as armed robbery. Same with a squirt gun in the pocket, or an unloaded or inoperable firearm. The pretense of being armed is the equivalent of being armed. While the exact verbiage of any state's law may vary, I don't think any state makes an exception or provide for a lesser penalty for anything short of an operable loaded firearm.

  23. I use Free BSD which works well. UNIX had a lot of corporate hassles which resulted in many different flavors over the years. C remains the staple for system programming on UNIX. It also separates the programmers from the script kiddies.

  26. snagged from the web.... it's about a traffic checkpoint a friend of mine said he was holding a large cup of vodka and tonic with a lime in it between his legs as he approached a checkpoint. He quickly tossed the contents out of the window. When the officer said to pull over to the side to be breathalyzed because he knew he'd been drinking, my friend said ā€œHow do you know that?" The officer replied ā€œBecause there is a fresh slice of lime stuck to the rear door handle"!

  31. I can’t find a makers mark and I’m too lazy to do the research. My semi educated guess is Buermann early 20th century with the silver being added by someone prior to retailing them. I think these are worth $250 shipped to you via USPS Priority Mail with insurance. Plain straps pictured are included. I can make you up a pair of one piece more authentic style straps with tooling/initials for an additional $100.

  35. But he never saves me any banana. Just ask Blackwater (his cousin in law). He brought Blackwater a nanner split once without any ice cream in it and only 1/2 of a nanner. He said 1/2 the nanner was rotten so he eat it to keep it from spoiling the rest of the nanner split. When ask WHY it didn't have any ice cream, he said he was taste testing it to see how cold it was. Yep, he's sure a humble feller......always thinking about how he can help out others. ..........Widder

  36. I'm not blaming anyone or any group of people. These people don't just start running for governor out of nowhere. They start with city councils, county commissioner, mayor, dog catcher, sheriff, judges, school boards, etc. In other words, it starts locally much of the time. When's the last time anyone actually did a little research on the prospective judge of the circuit court that wants to retain their job, the prospective school board member, the prospective city council member or even sheriff. Some state laws start with homegrown amendments to the state constitution that, on the surface, seem like good ideas...until you do research and discover the sponsors and hidden reasoning behind the sponsor support. Many times, the wording of the proposed amendment or bill is misleading and/or seemingly innocuous when it is far from that. Research everyone and everything that is on the ballot, that's all I'm saying. I'll stop here, lest it start a political slugfest.

  40. My buddy, Painted Mohawk, a citizen of Australia, posted this over in the Saloon! ā€œ Australia has 6 States- Victoria [ Vic ] New South Wales [ NSW ] South Australia [ SA ] Western Australia [WA ] Tasmania [ The Island at the bottom of Australia ] Queensland [ Qld ] And 2 Territories -Canberra [ ACT ] Australian Capitol Territory ] Northern Territorty [ NT ] In regard to our gun laws the Federal Government cannot tell the States & Territories what to do-the current laws were agreed to by all back in 1996 after the Port Arthur massacre. At present Qld [ my state ] Tasmania & NT do not agree with punishing law abiding gun owners for the recent 'Bondi shootings. There is a big swell of resistance to what is happening & even with the proposed gun buy back & new NSW laws, nothing will happen for some time with all the legal battles that are being proposed. The biggest concern I see is those states who dont agree with what is happening buckling to Federal pressure by with holding funds etc ..time will tell !! We do have a few political parties that are gun friendly so the hope is with up coming elections that things will change at least in regard to the balance of power. I for one & I would hope many others will do everything in their power to keep our guns & not give up the fight Australia has a population of 27--28 million with only 1 million licensed gun owners . ''WHEN INJUSTICE BECOMES LAW--RESISTANCE BECOMES DUTY'' [ there are not enough jails to keep us all ] ..Cheers 'Mohawkā€œ

  41. Getting CUT or STUCK can sometimes be the best education for a young feller. It teaches US all that accidents will happen and being careful is Rule #1. Rule #2: teach him how to whittle. Rule #3: teach him how to sharpen it. Rule #4: When teaching him SAFETY, let him know his taking care of that knife might determine when he gets his first BB or pellet rifle..... kinda like an elementary test for future gifts..... P.S. - that is a nice gift. ..........Widder
