Thanks guys - appreciate your care in knowing my condition. All is good...I'm vertical and still breathing. When I got a penalty point from a Moderator for speaking frankly, I basically quit the Wire. I'll be at WR...say hi. Or if one of the Wire Wranglers want to take an issue up with me Face to Face...I'm up for that too! Take care and keep supporting your local SASS Clubs and local Gun Shops! Phantom19 points

I just wanted to share a new rig I just built for myself. Matt Black and I came up with the esthetic design a few days ago. The base of this rig is the Matt Black World Champion Gun rig. This is not for sale. I’m just showing it is all. It started as an idea Dylan and I both had. My crazy mind went to work on it and wouldn’t shut down until I built it. I kinda laid it all on the line with this one. I’ve second guessed myself worried it wasn’t good enough as it was being built. It all came full circle this evening though. I came to the conclusion that it doesn’t matter if anyone else likes it. What matters is that I like it and that it is a part of me. Starting with a blank canvas can sometimes be in itself a challenge and sometimes it all falls together. This in my mind is the best I’ve done to date however I will continue to challenge and push myself in the future. My good friends this new holster is called “The High Country” It starts as the Matt Black World Champion design with 14 oz overall leather weight. It is lined in the back with 22 gauge steel making it adjustable to your body and style. It has a 3/4 skirt, cut away at the back for unobstructed access to the gun grip, hammer thong, belled out top lip, wide rear spine, branded belt keeper, three point fastening system in the back. Those are some of the standard features on the Matt Black rig. Now comes the High Country embellishments. Basket weave tooling Engraved nickel spots Two toned finish Holster lip overlay with engraved nickel spots Holster bands with silver and gold plated slot concho held on by an alcantara strap and adorned with engraved nickel spots. 24k Gold plated (by me)star concho with 7mm Swarovski clear crystal. Built in screw knife holster basket weaved and treated with engraved nickel spots. Then I brought it all together with a black highlight around the perimeter. This brings together two worlds great looks and extremely high performance! Blending high function with class and style This one is built to last a lifetime and beyond. I absolutely love the way this one came out! i know there are leather hobbyists that are much better than I am but I had fun making this one! I am just glad to have a new rig for myself for a change!7 points

A History Of Black Cowboys And The Myth That The West Was White An exhibition on view at The Studio Museum in Harlem hopes to retire the persistent myth equating cowboys with whiteness. I like anyone with the spine to step up and state their opinion (even knowing it may be unpopular). I like Phantom. But like is cheap. What I respect is anyone who has the testicular fortitude to stick to their opinion in the face of loud opposition. Folks that (when they're not wrong) don't apologize and walk it back. Folks that understand that if it comes down to a choice between telling the truth or hurting your feelings - the truth should win out every time. I respect Phantom.7 points

I was browsing gunbroker and on the home page was a ww2 German 9mm schmiezer for a mere $23,000. Since valentine's day is coming I asked her if I could have 23k for it and she acted as if I had not spoken and proceeded to ask one of the children something unrelated. I was sitting 5 feet from her. Maybe she plans to surprise me.4 points

I do like Birdgun's Holland and Holland story. With my dad, it was Purdy shotguns. As he got older and more prosperous, he moved from Winchester Mod. 12s to Beretta and Browning over-and-unders, but he extolled the Purdy's. When he and my ma visited London in their 60s, she told me he went to the Purdy shop in Mayfair and had the time of his life looking over the shotguns. 40K was about the lowest price.... Time came when he could have afforded one, but there was no point, given his good guns. He just liked the idea that he could have bought one, but chose not to!4 points

No...not very often. Best I can figure is that she thinks she has to do all the thinking. But I sometimes have to set my foot down and tell her, "I wish you would hurry up and make up my mind!"4 points

Greetings all! Did y'all miss me? I took a new job back t the end of November with a strong almost impenetrable Big Brother Firewall Finally figured that one out. That and the fact that about in September, I noticed, I was not feeling real well. Had a hard time swallowing food and was living on Gavescon for indigestion. Then it got to the point that I couldn't dry off out of the shower, put on my boots or walk from the front door to to my vehicle without being out of breath. I had surgery back about 12 years ago for a hietal hernia, and thought it was back stronger than before. Went to the Doctor that performed the surgery the first time and he held his hands up and said, "You need to leave my office right now and either go see a cardiologist or else get to the emergency room." Well, that made me feel much better. Went to the ER and complained I couldn't breathe. The first thing they did was an EKG. Result = nothing wrong with my heart. Then they took some blood. My hemoglobin count came back at 4.7. The normal for a male is 12-14. I didn't have enough to pump oxygen through my body, so my bod was oxygen depleted. Low iron indicated I was an anemic. Never suffered from anemia before so that was all new to me. Got a 3 pint blood transfusion which brought my hemoglobin count up to 7.5, still low but high enough to get me out of the hospital. Doctor gave me a prescription for iron tablets and after 3 weeks my count was up to 9.7. heading in the right direction and I'm hopeful, I'll reach that 12 range in the next 3 weeks. Anyway, after getting my oil changed, I feel much better and even went out shooting last weekend. Talk soon - SWN3 points

Oh I've already looked at the match...even "mapped" it for driving distance. Trust me...I don't forget. Whether I can get there this year is up in the air. The new house was supposed to be finished in June 2019, then November 2019, then March 2020. So don't worry, if it's not this year...ultimately...we'll meet in person. Cheers! Phantom...who really needs to avoid the Wire...as my friends don't need it to understand who is a friend...who is someone to respect...as we acquire knowledge through face to face interactions.3 points

And then we have the In & Out Burger "Drink Cup Shoes". If you aren't familiar with In & Out Burgers they are a great local burger franchise here in SoCal. If you ever visit you have to try their burgers and fries...That is if you aren't afraid of becoming a Socialist Communist Leftist Lapdog by setting foot in the state.3 points

PLUS ONE too J-BAR. AND, All too often the knee-jerk reaction is to immediately jump up and penalize the shooter. Especially here on the wire. Near everybody seem to forget "Benefit of the Doubt goes to THE SHOOTER" Stop and think. This a game. We all pay to play, There is no Pearlescent White Caddy Escalade for first place. Does everyone just forget this is suppose to FUN???? Playing "Who Flung Dung" is not necessarily FUN.3 points

If I am the shooter who disagrees with a scoring decision, I will respectfully appeal. If I am the Timer Operator and I question the spotters’ decision, I will inform the scorekeeper of the decision then urge the shooter to appeal. If I am a spotter and I am not sure how to score the shooter, I will give my reasoning to my fellow spotters and the TO. If I am the Match Director and presented with an appeal that I am not sure how to score myself and those I may consult also seem unsure about, I’ll give the shooter a reshoot, because benefit of the doubt goes to the shooter. That’s how I would handle it. I’m open for critique.3 points

Don’t post much anymore but will to brag on a friend. As far as retention goes a competitive holster would be no good if it didn’t retain the gun through a full course of movement. Colt’s rigs do that. Having more gun exposed is very common in todays leather and has been for sometime. Beautiful rig!!3 points

Please the entire (locked down) 5-page thread. Some of the points mentioned in THIS OP were refuted or modified during that discussion. The call made "on site" was a reshoot due to RO interference/improper coaching. Match officials don't have the option of four days to make a determination. IMO, the miss on the plate rack shot was made up with the shotgun...some disagreed with the reasoning behind that opinion. I have no intention of reposting what has already been posted elsewhere.3 points

Last post I read from 'Phantom said he was taking a break from the wire due to [ in my words ... the crap that goes on. I'm sure he will pop in from time to time but is refraining from any posting..I have never met the man but value his input, knowledge & straight forward attitude.3 points

Nick makes his own conchos also. If you ever get down this way you owe it to yourself to visit his shop. He’s a big supporter of SASS shooters and he’ll usually have a table or booth at larger matches. If you’re coming to California State in April Nick will probably be there. If you ever get a chance to camp with him he is one heck of a good cook also.3 points

that is actually a very good question and I’m glad you asked. There is no adjustment for retention however my holsters are designed to grab at the cylinder. The guns are never loose in our holsters because I make them tight on purpose. There is fluctuation in the leather depending on weather sometimes. We carry a little lube for a potentially sticky holster. All of that being said my holsters that have the hydro dipped metal inlay stay the exact same all the time as they do with the optional kydex layered in. On any of the holsters I build there is never a problem with a loose gun. Message me sometime and I will share some maintenance tips and a product I have that will help yours should you be having trouble. Although I can tell you right now what the absolute best solution would be for you but I won’t. Lol3 points

B.T.!!! If I hadn't just bought a Henry Big Boy in .44 Mag to go with my pair of Walker Colts, I'd have taken you up on that kind offer! Of course, a good '97 is always appreciated...never having met one of that description in my entire life... Until I can make way way out to Cahoots, Youtah, I'll just stick with my lightnin' quick Meteor 10 ga..... See you at EoT? Cheers, FJT3 points

Absolutely beautiful. That has to be the best looking rig I’ve ever seen and perfectly functional on top of that. I would have guessed at least twice the amount of hours to build considering all the leather tooling and spot layout. Great job!2 points

That looks incredible. Absolutely beautiful. One trivia question, is there any kind of retention adjustment? Some of us aren't very smooth when we're moving from one shooting position to another. Is there a concern about it bouncing out as I'm lumbering from here to there?2 points

Oh great, now I'll just have to use it as a combo shaving cream/aftershave/cologne.2 points

A "P" was earned when the shooter fired 7 rounds at the plate rack as the stage instruction clearly state 6 rounds on the plates, if 2 plates should fall by a gust of wind or act of God, or the adjacent shot, the shooter still has to fire 6 rounds, not 5 or 7, 6. TB2 points
