  1. How gun owners see money OR a very cool lady

  2. "Recently, the Chula Vista, California Police Department ran an e-mail forum with the local community (a question and answer exchange) with the topic being, "Community Policing." One of the civilian e-mail participants posed the following question: "I would like to know how it is possible for police officers to continually harass people and get away with it?" From the "other side" (the law enforcement side) Sgt. Bennett, obviously a cop with a sense of humor replied: "First of all, let me tell you this...it's not easy. In Chula Vista, we average one cop for every 600 people. Only about 60% of those cops are on general duty (or what you might refer to as "patrol") where we do most of our harassing. The rest are in non-harassing departments that do not allow them contact with the day to day innocents. At any given moment, only one-fifth of the 60% patrollers are on duty and available for harassing people while the rest are off duty. So roughly, one cop is responsible for harassing about 5,000 residents When you toss in the commercial business, and tourist locations that attract people from other areas, sometimes you have a situation where a single cop is responsible for harassing 10,000 or more people a day. Now, your average ten-hour shift runs 36,000 seconds long. This gives a cop one second to harass a person, and then only three-fourths of a second to eat a donut AND then find a new person to harass. This is not an easy task. To be honest, most cops are not up to this challenge day in and day out. It is just too tiring. What we do is utilize some tools to help us narrow down those people which we can realistically harass. The tools available to us are as follow: PHONE: People will call us up and point out things that cause us to focus on a person for special harassment. "My neighbor is beating his wife" is a code phrase used often. This means we'll come out and give somebody some special harassment. Another popular one: "There's a guy breaking into a house." The harassment team is then put into action. CARS: We have special cops assigned to harass people who drive. They like to harass the drivers of fast cars, cars with no insurance or no driver's licenses and the like. It's lots of fun when you pick them out of traffic for nothing more obvious than running a red light. Sometimes you get to really heap the harassment on when you find they have drugs in the car, they are drunk, or have an outstanding warrant on file. RUNNERS: Some people take off running just at the sight of a police officer. Nothing is quite as satisfying as running after them like a beagle on the scent of a bunny. When you catch them you can harass them for hours to determine why they didn't want to talk to us. STATUTES: When we don't have PHONES or CARS and have nothing better to do, there are actually books that give us ideas for reasons to harass folks. They are called "Statutes"; Criminal Codes, Motor Vehicle Codes, etc...They all spell out all sorts of things for which you can really mess with people. After you read the statute, you can just drive around for awhile until you find someone violating one of these listed offenses and harass them. Just last week I saw a guy trying to steal a car. Well, there's this book we have that says that's not allowed. That meant I got permission to harass this guy. It's a really cool system that we've set up, and it works pretty well. We seem to have a never-ending supply of folks to harass. And we get away with it. Why? Because for the good citizens who pay the tab, we try to keep the streets safe for them, and they pay us to "harass" some people Next time you are in my town, give me the old "single finger wave." That's another one of those codes. It means, "You can't harass me." It's one of our favorites. Hopefully sir, this has clarified to you a little bit better how we harass the good citizens of Chula Vista. "

  3. A husband and his wife were at the mall for a busy day of Christmas shopping. Looking up from a sale bin at Marshal's, the wife realized her husband must have wondered off. Somewhat concerned but also somewhat annoyed, the wife called the husband's cell phone. She said , "Where are you, you know we have lots to do." He said "Do you remember the jewelers we went into about 10 years ago, and you fell in love with that diamond necklace? I couldn't afford it at the time but told you one day I would get it for you?" Little tears started to flow down her cheek and she got all choked up. "Yes, I do remember that shop" she replied." "Well I'm in the gun shop next door to that."

  5. I have worked with a shooter who outran his pistols. Only because the hammer springs were so light, they didn't complete the fall before he was recocking them. Once he put heavier springs in, the problem went away. And no, I'm not going to name names. I've also seen it with rifles that have a mainspring that's just way too light. Lock time is important.

  6. I used to have an elderly aunt in Buffalo, who had the habit of calling me on the phone and talking for an hour about folks I did not know and had never met. She did this without any sense that I would have no idea who she was talking about. She just wanted to talk. I did not interrupt her with questions; just inserted an occasional "Oh my" to let her know I was listening, and that even though I had no idea who these people were, I cared enough about her and her well-being to show some interest. So, Alpo my friend.......Oh, my. LL

  10. Garry Adelman's Civil War Page Page Liked · December 19, 2015 · In bears out in almost every photo of the western army soldiers--they simply look different than those of the east. Call it looser, more rugged, carefree or whatever you'd like. Here, they are removing Confederate ammunition after the March to the Sea ended at Fort McAllister, Ga., Dec. 1864.

  12. Believe it or not, I do this. My wife wanted to get me a new tool box for my garage. I told her for that tool box I could buy a Glock 20 and a dozen mags and maybe have some money left over for ammo. She rolled her eyes... No, she didn't buy me the G20...and I don't have a new tool box...

  15. "Michele update: My beautiful angel woke up today and spent most of the day awake. She would watch intently at all who spoke to her and would often show a quick smile. I think we caught a wink or two coming from her, however not quite sure. She was resting comfortably when I left for the evening. I know for a fact the prayers are working. Please keep them coming for she still has a lot of recovery. God bless."

  16. If a stage writer writes a stage specifically requiring a GF to shoot DD for no reason, THAT is contrary to SASS rules. Revolvers are drawn and used in accordance with the shooter’s category SHB p.15 - "Firearm Conventions" Stage instructions that specify separate revolvers such as “first pistol/second pistol,” “left revolver/right revolver,” or “with each handgun” are interpreted as “1st five shots/2nd five shots” when shooting Gunfighter style. SHB p.7 This specifically overrides the stage instructions.

  17. Hm. Just musing... but I wonder what the reactions would be if, after the next election, control of the House switched and the then-former Speaker was to be impeached...

  18. STOP writing stages with first pistol, second pistol, that terminology is unnecessary, and leads to bad calls.

  19. UPDATE - TUESDAY, 12/17 So today I wandered into the shop again. Well, not so much wandered as purposefully strode inThere was a conspicuous empty space on the shelf where the Coly had been. Seth, the owner saw my expression. “Something wrong?”, he asked. “The King Cobra .....it’s gone”, I sobbed. ”Yup. Sold it yesterday” Then like Julia Roberts in the fancy boutique in Pretty Woman, I began to dig bills out of my pockets.“But I was gonna buy it”, I whined. “I’ve already ordered a holster”. Tears began to fall. “You snooze, you lose”, said a not particularly helpful bystander. ”Hang on”, says Seth, “I”ll call the Durango store and see if we have one there” Several agonizing minutes later he returned. “Well”, he said slowly as I began to curl into a fetal position. Ruger, the gun shop dog came over and sniffed me sympathetically. “We have one. I’ll go over and get it this afternoon. You can pick it up tomorrow”. I leapt into the air. A warm breeze blew the shop door open and several bluebirds flew in. ”I’ll be here at 6”, I yelled as I skipped merrily out to my truck. “I’ll be here at 10”, he said. Merry Christmas to me.

  24. Has to be double duelist. In other words if you shoot all revolver rounds with one hand on a given stage you have earned a P for shooting out of category.

  28. Easy to say but there are many things that need to get done. Health care and pharmaceutical cost are spiraling out of control. Look at the commercials on tv. Nothing but drug, so called heath "insurance" providers, accident attorney and auto commercials. These companies all go hand in hand with each other even if they are on opposing sides. The cost of even a short hospital stay will put most people in the poor house unless they have way overpriced health care insurance. The costs of what used to be reasonably priced drugs (blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, etc) has doubled, tripled or worse. This is all due to greed. The greed starts with our so called elected "representatives". As everyone here knows, the items listed above is just the tip of the iceberg. While the Democrats can think of nothing but getting rid of Trump, the Republicans can think of nothing but defending Trump. Neither has America's best interest at heart and are concerned about nothing but getting re-elected so that they can gain even more personal wealth from the job that we trusted them to do. To them, family values and ethics don't matter anymore, let alone the Constitution of the United States. It's all about money and power. I guess it's been that way since time began. That's why great civilizations come and go. I won't be alive to see the end but I sure as hell will not help it go. One of these days, our ancestors will look back and say......"Their elected government couldn't even save themselves from themselves" "What a bunch of dumb asses" and it won't be in English.

  34. Because we're Gunfighters, dammit! A. I can shoot 5 GF style faster than duelist. 2. We're Gunfighters, dammit! I have been known to shoot 5 from position 1, stage pistols at pos. 1, run to pos. 2 and shoot rifle/shotgun, run back to pos. 1 to retrieve pistols and proceed to pos. 3 to shoot last 5. Is it faster or "better"? Maybe not but we're Gunfighters, dammit!

  35. A bunch of rich, smug, overpaid individuals (paid by your hard work) ended a couple weeks of a pre-determined monkey trial. Now the monkey trial goes in front of another group of the same type people who will have another pre-determined opposite outcome. I don't think it's anything to worry about other than these people are not doing the job that they are paid to do......none of them.
