  1. Unfortunately, once a Constitutional Convention is convened, it opens the door to other issues - like repeal of the 2nd Amendment. Leave well enough alone, and work for your issues on a lesser scale. LL

  3. At our monthly Escondido Bandidos match a few pards use their 1911’s because of shoulder injuries they can’t shoot much else and we are glad to have them there. We have another pard who comes down every month and it takes him about 3 minutes to get through a stage and we’re extra glad to have him. You all have probably heard of Chesty Pullers exploits in the Korean conflict and if it weren’t for the Cowboy on our posse all stove up, using a mobility scooter to get around and being supported by two or three Cowboys while he shoots the stage in three minutes Ol Chesty wouldn’t have made it out of Korea. If someday Cherokee Ken decides he wants to use 1911’s for match guns at a Bandidos match I’m pretty confident there will be no shortage of offers of 1911’s for him to use. So if all you folks moaning about 1911’s being allowed at local matches to accommodate those pards that would otherwise not be allowed to participate ever find your way down to Escondido on the first Saturday, please find something else to do because I’m pretty sure you’ll lose sleep over the things we do to accommodate elderly and handicapped shooters.

  4. Bad policy. They can be excused to their room. One of the worst things to happen was the invention of the "Kids menu" by which kids are taught that they should only like hot dogs, chicken nuggets, mac & cheese, or grilled cheese sandwiches. Teach them early to eat real foods.

  6. Let's not. My nephew married a Scottish lassie (the only smart thing he ever did) and I asked her if she liked haggis. She told me real Scots seldom eat it, they just make it for the tourists.

  7. Bob, CPR training is not what it used to be. I received CPR training annually at my job for 29 years. The first time I was trained, it included rescue breathing, chest thumps, loosening ALL clothing items and two person CPR Then the chest thump was removed from the training because people did not understand how to do it correctly (my EX- wife, a cardiac nurse, once restated a heart with a chest thump when a man had a heart attack at a restaurant we were attending). Then loosening clothing was removed because people witnessing you could think you were doing it to expose a lady's chest. Then two person CPR was no longer taught. The last class I attended before I retired they had discontinued rescue breathing because of fear of AIDS. At that time (2007) they were only teaching chest compressions, which could also move some air in and out of the lungs. OK, if a heart has stopped beating the person is dead and anything you do will be an improvement. But it seems to me that the modern way is less effective than what we were being taught in 1979. 9. Our club has offered a Pike category for years. Same scenario, same round count, just load a second magazine loaded with five rounds and go. It gets shot three or four times a year. I don't see this as the beginning of the end for SASS.

  10. Many years back. My wife's sister's husband traded her in on a younger model, and she and her kids came and stayed with us for a while. The first night, as a welcome, I had made spaghetti, and you can see the pieces of onion and bell pepper floating in the sauce. As her kids were giving it the evil eye she informed me that they did not eat red things or green things. I went and got a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter and dropped them on the table. That's when two of my kids said that they wanted peanut butter sandwiches also. I snatch the peanut butter out of the boy's hand and picked up the bread. I CHANGED MY MIND. THIS IS SUPPER. IF THEY DON'T WANT IT, BREAKFAST IS IN 14 HOURS. And for the two weeks they was living in my house, they ate what I put on the table or they went hungry.

  11. Thanks. I agree. I took this fat spike a week ago and we are enjoying him at the table already! No one else among my hunting friends saw a deer, so I have not had complaints, only envy!!

  16. I'd like to see a survey done to see how many of these cry babies are wearing anything made of or with petroleum products: plastics, artificial rubber, dyes, paints, inks, lots of cosmetics and some soaps, etc., and how many got to the stadium by donkey cart or solar powered vehicles. They are not only uneducated and boorish, they are universally hypocritical. What do they think......oh hell, never mind. None of them has had a truly original thought in their life time.

  18. A few years back, Alton Brown's 5 cheese Mac & Cheese made it into our Thanksgiving menu, complete with small sausages. We had a passel of kids that year, and it was impossible to meet their dietary restrictions and desires with ordinary fare. It stuck, and I'm glad it did. Most of our traditional Thanksgiving dinner food was not on the Pilgrims' table; I figure one more new addition is not going to destroy the occasion. And everyone loves it. LL

  20. Liver is disgusting. I've tried a liver based food dish made by Emeril Lagasse and even that was just not edible. No need to ever eat mountIn oysters as there is plenty of other perfectly good meat on them critters for consumption. I've never seen a reason to eat them, for any reason. Fish parts other than a nice slab of fish meat. And don't leave the damn head on a catfish when ya fry it. Disgusting. I can't eat something when its dead eyes are staring back at me.

  24. I've seen the Mac and cheese comercials on tv. The mom fixed salmon and they boy goes "Yuuuck" and throws himself on the floor. SO mom and dad fix mac and cheese for the little butt hole. If I did what that kid did I would be sent to my room with out supper and probably with a warmed backside. Is this what we are teaching our kids today?

  25. At the present time, there is no assurance that an Article V Convention could be limited to a single subject or set agenda. Legal opinions vary on that. I envision this whole idea being battled out in the courts before finally being resolved. All it takes is one of the 34 state legislatures insisting that a "Gun Control" mandate be put forward, and this whole thing devolves into a circus. I would venture that the reason the Article V Convention process has never been used to amend the Constitution, is that its next to impossible to get that many politicians, at least thirty four State Assemblies, to agree on anything.

  26. In 1969 my draft number was 45... and while I like to camp, hunt, & sometimes fish... I like to pick where I camp, under what conditions, and much prefer hunting game that I can eat. So I joined the Navy... Served three times in and in the waters of VN... Got shot at more'n once... even tho' I was a "supply type", I spent a fair amount of time totin' a long & short gun... I don't care where you served, nor in what capacity... you signed the same blank check as everyone else. You gave up control of your life for the duration of that enlistment... and any that may have followed. While I don't need the "thanks-for-your-service" I hear so often nowadays, (sometimes it rings a little hollow). I never heard when it would have meant more to me as a young man that wondered if my fellow man, if not the whole country looked on me as just another "baby killer." It took 20 YEARS for someone other than a family member to welcome me home. I clearly remember the day it took place... it was far more than a simple "thank you"... It was some 25 years ago, I no longer remember the exact words that were spoken, but the context and emotion with which it was said made it one of the few times I've been moved to leak from the eyes. And I wasn't the only one of more than a 100 vets standing in the church that were so moved.

  27. I think allowing 1911s, scored separately or not, into the game makes it an entirely different game not to mention adding a whole nother layer of rules governing the 1911. It seems to me if there are enough people having to switch to 1911s WB is ready and waiting to accommodate them.

  28. It's gonna be awhile before I do TO duties and only being 3 matches in, I don't trust myself enough to do spotter, yet. (Old eyes, bad ears) I will, however, shag brass and work the table until the sun goes down. I will move tables, set up or take down targets and will run to grab something if someone needs it. (OK, so it's more of a hobble that looks like a cross between Wayne and Igor running, but you get the point.) Really, when I got into the conversation here, I thought it was just a casual talk about keeping the good people I've met around and having fun, not about changing the points competition part of the sport. Keep the rules the rules for the competition, but isn't there any room to have fun with great people? I wasn't expecting the Spanish Inquisition.

The meat is always more tender when they're relaxed. On the serious side -- brining. Salt, some spices, some gin (yes -- gin). 24 hours in the brine, a few hours to rest, then roasted. Just before finish, glaze and brown with butter and molasses.

  36. I worked at Old Sacramento Armory with Dick for a number of years then we started the River City Regulators along with five other good folks. Before he retired, Dick was captain of homicide for the Sacramento County Sheriffs Department and carried a nickled ivory gripped Colt Sheriffs model as his duty gun (there was a 1911 in his glove compartment as well as a riot gun, and an m16 in his trunk in case things got serious). He was a great guy and had great stories to tell about old time law enforcement. A true friend who helped me out at a critical time in my life. Another good man gone.
