This topic predates any responders on this topic yet. The answer in 1985 when I first heard it posited was no... Frankly, haven't any of you read the "Introduction to SASS"? Isn't there a line in there about using guns of the "old west"? Something to the effect of Civil War to 1899? I know for a fact that it didn't take me 8 years of college to get that BA in History to learn that 1911 doesn't fall between "Civil War & 1899". Label me insensitive, but frankly, cowboy action has a set of rules... and I'd venture to say that nearly every rule change has relaxed the criteria to play this game. As others have noted... If you want to shoot your 1911 in competition, badger the WB fellers. Tell 'em that they shoot too much, you need some relief. IME, it takes more manual manipulation to operate a 1911 than it does a SAA... and again, in case y'all ain't ever noticed, the cyclic speed of the 1911 is pretty well fixed... as slow as I am, I can fire 5 shots much much faster with my SAA than my 1911. And, my changing of magazines might be tad slower than some can transition between revolvers. I don't know this "Arthur" feller y'all talk about, but if he made me hurt as much as my arthritis does, I'd kick his s(ass)... Leave SASS alone. Now... the above is the sugar coated version of what I think. Don't ask me to give you the grown-up adult version. Y'all clearly ain't ready for that.8 points

Ya know what?? Screw this PC garbage, I'll talk and say what I want and trust myself not to offend anyone according to MY standards. I don't call anyone a racist name or a ethnic slur, I don't say anything bad about people who are of a different sexual persuasion or religion. I'm comfortable with who I am and this PC crap has gone waaaay too far! Rant over! Thanks for listening!!6 points

I refuse to be "politically correct", but I'm generally not rude or mean. If I intend to be rude or insulting there will be NO doubt that I meant it that way. If I don't intend to be, and someone is offended by it, that's on them! P.O.O.P #2.6 points

Many years back. My wife's sister's husband traded her in on a younger model, and she and her kids came and stayed with us for a while. The first night, as a welcome, I had made spaghetti, and you can see the pieces of onion and bell pepper floating in the sauce. As her kids were giving it the evil eye she informed me that they did not eat red things or green things. I went and got a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter and dropped them on the table. That's when two of my kids said that they wanted peanut butter sandwiches also. I snatch the peanut butter out of the boy's hand and picked up the bread. I CHANGED MY MIND. THIS IS SUPPER. IF THEY DON'T WANT IT, BREAKFAST IS IN 14 HOURS. And for the two weeks they was living in my house, they ate what I put on the table or they went hungry.5 points

If someone tells me OK isn’t Okay I am afraid I won’t be OK with that and if the tell me they want me to use “KK” or Ku Klux as an OK response I believe I might tell them to FO.5 points

Bad policy. They can be excused to their room. One of the worst things to happen was the invention of the "Kids menu" by which kids are taught that they should only like hot dogs, chicken nuggets, mac & cheese, or grilled cheese sandwiches. Teach them early to eat real foods.4 points

Thank you kindly, Ma'am, Honestly, it's not my intention to change anything about this sport or community. I came into this on an invite from a friend and I'm staying for the people I have met and hope to meet. I'm not sure if everyone gets how truly special that is. This sport is roughly 6 minutes of trigger time and a whole day of good people. I don't always do people well (I'm gonna prove that in a minute), but y'all make me want to be better and to help if I can. This thread really isn't about changing rules on a whim. I don't really think it's about changing the rules at all. I thought of it as more of a way to toss ideas around to help out the community that I hope to contribute enough to that I'll be comfortable saying "our" community. And now.... Amigo, As one NRA life member to another, you should hang your head in shame for what you just posted. You talk about a shooting sport that brings back the nostalgia of Tom, Roy, Gene, Paladin or whatever. Most younger folks these days don't even know who they are, let alone feel nostalgic about it. Hell, I was talking to a couple of younger guys at work today who didn't even know what Soylent Green was. Do you seriously think that because the sport uses "old timey" shootin irons that the bead won't eventually be drawn on us? Did you really just say that if we don't use them fancy auto-loaders the politicians will leave us alone? You talk about slippery slopes to avoid and you've already slipped down the biggest one. You talk about compromise of the rules of the sport we participate in and you compromise our 2nd Amendment. Your talk of public perception is misguided. The further we get down the timeline from the Old West, the more import is placed upon our efforts to inform or even educate the casual observer of our chosen past time and how important it was to the building of our country. Maybe helping folks understand the history of firearms in our society and how an AR-15 is just as important now as a Brown Bess was in 1776 might be a better use of your time instead of hiding behind your spurs. I've been in California my whole life and I've seen the changes caused by apathy, indifference and self service. Hunters, sportsmen, collectors and casual shooters who didn't think to vote against the small propositions because it didn't really involve them. Until it did.... Now I may have taken your post out of context. I may have misread it or maybe you misspoke. I mulled it over and reread it as best I could. If I am wrong, I duly apologize. To the rest of the good folks here, I will apologize now. There are some things I just can't abide.4 points

I think allowing 1911s, scored separately or not, into the game makes it an entirely different game not to mention adding a whole nother layer of rules governing the 1911. It seems to me if there are enough people having to switch to 1911s WB is ready and waiting to accommodate them.4 points

Don't know why I bid on it, but it looks almost unfired and its mine now ($300) Fore arm does not have a cap or Schnabel; looks to be a Sporter. Was a carbine made or was the barrel cut from 24"? Cheap scope and high mounts will come off. Besides a few deer with my cowboy 92, over 100 with my Marlin 336c (Remington core-lokt 150 gr.) What cartridge should I use with this for a whitetail?3 points

I've seen the Mac and cheese comercials on tv. The mom fixed salmon and they boy goes "Yuuuck" and throws himself on the floor. SO mom and dad fix mac and cheese for the little butt hole. If I did what that kid did I would be sent to my room with out supper and probably with a warmed backside. Is this what we are teaching our kids today?3 points

When I was younger basketball was my passion, and for a guy of medium height and very little jumping ability I was pretty good. There was a period in my 30s and early 40s where I played a couple of hours a day three or four days a week. Alas I can no longer do that, too painful the next day and I don’t have the wind to go more than 10 minutes or so now. I miss it and still occasionally play a little with my children and nephew, but not for too long. My style of play has changed to account for my heavier, slower body. Now I back people down in the low post rather than playing ftf crossing them up and driving. Back then I could touch the rim, now I struggle to touch the net. If they lowered the goal, made the court shorter, moved the 3 point line in, and shortened the quarters substantially I might be able to play better and stay in the game longer, but it wouldn’t be the same game now would it?3 points

Unfortunately, once a Constitutional Convention is convened, it opens the door to other issues - like repeal of the 2nd Amendment. Leave well enough alone, and work for your issues on a lesser scale. LL3 points

I remember shooting the stage on the bottom with all the red buildings. You went down stage as you shot and the last target was inside the outhouse in the center. It was in the dark and you shot it through the half moon...if you ever saw it! This kind of stage would cause a riot these days, but it was great fun. I recall that the team match was shot on this bay and the props really took a beating. Brings back good memories.3 points

I am in full agreement with you (imagine that?). There are a lot of shooting games for slide action guns. Some of them can very easily be shot with a single stack 1911 (Steel Challenge for example). Allowing 1911's into the mix is opening a can of worms that ought to stay sealed.3 points

I would buy some Hornady 150 grainers and sight them to hit 2” to 3” high at 100 yards so’s you can put the reticle in the middle of the deer out to about 300 yards and get ready to fire up the grill. Nice score by the way. Maybe you should buy a lottery ticket.3 points

I am NOT looking for an excuse to shoot my 1911, I shoot duelist and if Arthur gets bad in my strong hand I will go double gripper before I go 1911. I merely am thinking aout those shooters who have a hard time cocking a revolver because of arthritis. If I don't take an Aleve or Motrin before the shoot, by the end my right thumb is really hurting. There are many others that have it MUCH worse than me. I'd hate to see good folks quit CAS because of that hence the idea of 1911's.3 points

To each his own, I guess. But if my choice was between green beans and soggy french fried onion sticks, or smashed sweet potatoes with melted marshmallows on top, or macaroni and cheese --- you best believe I'd grab that mac and cheese.2 points

To straight up answer your question, re: Ruger New Vaquero vs the Uberti Cattleman II, no contest. The Ruger New Vaquero hands down... But, you might throw some others into the mix, such as the EMF line of Great Western II revolvers. The Alchemista II for performance, or the Californian if you want one that looks closest to the Colt Single Action, Army, Model 1873. If you want a Uberti without the "saftified" hammer mechanism, look at the Cimarron "Old Model" frame revolvers. But, handle as many guns as you can while visiting a match. Grip frames differ, the weight of the guns vary, consider caliber... are you reloading or not. If not, .38 special is far more economical to bulk buy then any other caliber.... Barrel lengths make a difference is weight and how a gun handles. Look at the front and rear sights... There are so many models because there are so many different personal likes and dislikes. Only you can say what "fits" you2 points

The pictures got me reminiscing. Here are a couple of shots from Northern California. The first one is the main stages at Railroad Flat up at Mokolomne Hill somewhere about 1985-1986 and the second one was me at the same match, back when I was a 22 year old kid and had a 28 inch waist! Not sure why I am only wearing one gun. This match changed my life. I met friends here including the late great Carl Ontis (Pawnee Bill), who got me interested in reenacting, which led to pursuing my interest in history, and eventually a Ph.D in historical archaeology. On top of that, we had a heck of a lot of fun. Sad to say, many of the old crowd are gone. But it was fun while it lasted.2 points

For the record, racking the slide on a 1911 with the heel of your boot is pretty easy. It looks cool if you can stay standing while doing it, too. Although I found it easier after you've fallen over. Your mileage with spurs on may vary.2 points

Agreed, but I do manage to get through part of it by whiling away a few hours doing the full season's reloading. Time in the nice warm gun room makes the blowing snow and -20's seem a bit farther away...at least until I have to go out and shovel! CS2 points

Awe shucks, now I'm gonna start blushing. I'm down here in Costa Mesa. On a clear night you can hear the fireworks at Disneyland. (On a cloudy night, they're louder.) With respect, Hendo2 points
