Well my two are going to start competing full time next year. Which is great. Then a friend from high school who isnt a shooter asked if I could help her kids too as their father has no interest. Not a problem. Happy to help. So fair warning, if you see me running around like a chicken with its head chopped off next year its because there will be 6 new sass shooters under 14 somewhere close by. Oh and my wife has decided to shoot gf now and wants help with that.... There will be no rest for me next year I'm thinking.6 points

Time to do some treadmill work. Got the tv and blueray mounted and hooked up finally. It bein All Hallow's Eve, I put an appropriate spooky movie in the player. The Thing From Another World. The original 1951 classic, not the remake gore fests, with Kenneth Tobey and Margaret Sheridan, and of course Marshal Dillon as The Thing. Went a bit over my target time because it's hard to stop watching this Howard Hawks masterpiece. UFO, Mad Scientist, Hot Chick, Hot pilot, great script, and a C-47. I remember having the bejeebers scairt outta me when I first saw it on TV as a youngster. I was glad it didn't snow where we lived. They don't make 'em like that anymore.4 points

A timely find, given the proximity to the anniversary of the Battle Off Samar, it appears the wreckage of the USS Johnston may have been located. https://news.usni.org/2019/10/30/wreck-of-famed-wwii-destroyer-uss-johnston-may-have-been-found4 points

Might have something to do with that pesky First Amendment. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. I don't agree with Satan-worshippers, but, there it is.4 points

A Magnolia neighborhood was terrorized today as a roving band of vegan teens went on a health-conscious Halloween crime spree, reportedly pelting houses with plant-based egg substitute.4 points

Ridiculous. I am for a penectomy for convicted sexual abusers. At the very least I hope his cellmate is nicknamed Tripod.4 points

That was my thought. Thermos bottle, Crescent wrench, Channel lock pliers. It made sense. But I have learned that just because something makes sense don't necessarily mean it's true.4 points

I just finished this book. A great account of a 3rd Armored Division tank crew, and one particular crewman, during the drive throughEurope in the last months of WW2. Some of you may have seen the film shot by a combat cameraman of the fight between a German Panzer and a US M26 Pershing in the streets of Cologne. The only footage I ever saw of an actual tank shootout. Usually the only film you see is the aftermath when the cameramen come in after the battle. This book chronicles the fighting leading up to this event and then the subsequent battles until Germany’s surrender. Clarence Smoyer, the gunner in the Pershing, gave the author a first hand account of the campaign from his perspective. It’s a terrific narrative, full of detailed descriptions of soldiers, anecdotes, and events both from the American and German viewpoints. I was surprised to find it in our library as it’s a brand new book. If you are a student of military history, or just enjoy a gripping true story, I recommend picking this one up.3 points

Get into your favorite smoking jacket, get a fire started, pour yourself a stiff glass of absinthe, set aside a good block of time, and have a listen. : Basil Rathbone and Vincent Price read the works of Edgar Allan Poe over the course of 5 hours.3 points

That particular episode of WKRP has gone down in history as one of the funniest shows in TV history. I wonder how many Pards will understand your Thread. ..........Widder (gobble, gobble, gobble)3 points

If you are shooting long range you want the weight of your bullets to be consistent. Bottom pouring large heavy weight bullets will have a large SD of weights. Ladle poured large heavy bullets will have a much smaller SD.3 points

Nothing wrong with it, but you really should get yourself to a match or two BEFORE you buy anything. 1873's are considered by many, self included, to be the best for this game. They can be short stroked and lots of go fast parts are readily available. Can't short stroke a 92' and they tend to be very bullet length sensitive.3 points

I have worn my cowboy clothes a couple of times for Halloween. Like Hardpan, I put bananas in my holsters. Once I dressed up just to pass out candy. Imagine my surprise when I opened the door and heard this little kid say “Draw, Mister”. I went for my banana but he was too fast and got the drop on me. He fired...I heard a click and yelled “Bang” and I did what I did when I was a kid and got shot playing Cowboys and Indians. I dropped to one knee clutching my chest. I said “Awe Kid, ya got me!” then I fell over on my side and played dead. That little kid giggled like crazy and his parents laughed. I came back to life, stood up and put two big handfuls of chocolate candy in his bucket. That memory still makes me smile.3 points

I can tell you that the last time BJZ practiced was about 6 years ago, and that was ONE session. I know because I was there LOL. Extremely busy and driven individual who literally never touches his guns in between matches. Naturally talented in many ways with the attitude and mindset to accomplish great things. BJZ is the complete package when it comes to a CAS shooter. Completely selfless in what he gives to the game and a straight up competitor who plays 100% by the rules. One of my heroes.3 points

It says they can't be sure it's the Johnson because the wreck is such a mess and might be the USS Hoel instead. Still a hero ship nonetheless.2 points
