I am working on an article for a magazine and took some photos using some props I have purchased and my new set of bison chaps. I think they came out good. The pistols are Cimarron Arms 1872 Opentops matched with Slim Jim holsters by Cochise Leather in A.T. I think Dave did a great job.

Last week while visiting my local bank branch I glanced at the coin tray my teller has and saw these sitting in it. Of course the teller had no idea what they were but she knew their face value as legal tender was $1.50 so I bought them. Not a bad score.

There is no occasionally - there is no circumstance/ sequence/ target size, distance or array where the midpack shooter becomes a top shooter. You claim that you're getting all this negative feedback from shooters when the match is perceived to be too easy. I don't believe it You declare the match director should be building matches to separate the rank and file from the top shooters. I don't agree with it. I have been a successful match director within our game for nearly 20 years. I have put on 100's of monthly matches and dozens of annuals. I'm pretty sure in that span of years and matches - I had full comprehension of what my shooters wanted and the duties of a match director. Before you begin telling us what we are doing wrong - Perhaps you might want to put a little more effort into comprehending exactly what our game is.

Anytime I can dress up as a cowboy and shoot cowboy guns at targets that give an audible feedback is fun. Add good cowboy friends, some good natured bantering, some friendly competition and somewhere in the mix good food and drink. Oh, and LOTS of shotgun targets. Black powder makes things funner, I have also found. Movement is also good. Stand and deliver gets old fast. An onsite chuck wagon style breakfast, lunch or dinner is nice. Cain't not beat dutch oven cobbler no how. A large swap table always keeps things interesting away from the firing line as do vendors. My take.

I don't want to hijack the other thread so here we go. I think judging a match's quality based on a random percentage of clean shooters is a fool's errand. In my ever so humble opinion the quality of a match is based on the amount of fun the shooters have. Why else are we out here other than to have fun? (Which includes being with friends.) Is that how you judge a match? If so, what constitutes fun for you? What brings you back to a particular match year after year?

The article’s entire reason for existence is to bring to the attention of the anti-gun crowd and that there is another opportunity to go after gun and ammunition manufacturers.

A Special thanks to my good friend Red Knee who was instrumental in helping raise close to $500 as his part of the Cancer fund raiser at the TN State this year. I know that some enjoy our banter on the Wire..... and others may not. But our goal was to bring more attention to CANCER and help raise some good $$$ in the fight against it. Sure, we both (along with others) wanted to win the speed 97 side match. But the REAL GOAL was to bring attention to the Cancer fund raiser, even if it meant making us both look crazy to those that don't know us (of course, those that know us already know we are crazy). He, along with Christian Hammer, traveled a good distance from Oklahoma to be a significant part in this years fund raiser and I'm grateful for that..... plus, it was good to shoot with him all weekend. You're a good friend..... and a darn good 97 shooter. Thanks. ..........Widder

I read SIXGUNS and I certainly could've missed it, but I don't recall him loading .458" bullets in a 45 Colt. I know he did commonly resize rifle bullets to use in handguns. Does anyone recall what chapter in the book he describes this? Elmer wasn't insane at all. There is so much misinformation about him on forums, mostly I think, by folks who have never read any of his books. Cholla

Every bank around here has coin trays. I ALWAYS peek at 'em. Never know what you might find. Just last month I asked a young teller about small portrait bills. I had to explain a small portrait bill to her but for my effort she asked, "Like this?" and pulled out one of these and I snagged it as a collectible.

Another indicator of your level of experience in this game. Common knowledge 101, chapter one: Slow the "fast" shooters down with stage design and you slow the average shooter and below even more.

Fun is 100% subjective. There is no "fun" scale I can look at to determine if I think a match would be one I wish to attend. So I have to look at the actual metrics of a match and base my opinion on that. Clean shooters is a metric that I can use to judge not only the target sizes and distances; but the clarity of the stage writing as well. And because events rarely happen in a vacuum - those same club officers who make the effort to write matches with clear instructions and well placed targets are more likely to be paying attention to all the other details as well. I go to cowboy shoots to shoot. Everything that is not the match is a (way, way) distant second in my valuation. I'm not there to dance - I'm not there to listen to cowboy poetry - I'm not there for whiskey tastings - I came to shoot. Clean shooters is my most valuable measurement to determine the attractiveness of a match.

Actually, I was going to recommend watching on YouTube, "Soviet Storm - The Great Patriotic War." It was a very good video history of WWII Eastern Front. I had watched the entire series a couple of times with an English narrator, but now it is only in English subtitles. I think the English version is now only available on Amazon Prime for $0.99 per episode. .

Thanks......but, the guy who's responsible for all this is the one who several years ago posted a video of himself shootin a 97 blazing fast. I saw the video and thought, dang I gotta meet this guy, and I gotta beat this guy. I then saw where he was signed up to be at Hellfire in Louisiana. Upon arriving at Hellfire, I walked straight up to the 97 sidematch, found him, introduced myself and told him that he was the reason I was there and I was there to beat him. Well, that day I got my butt royally kicked by the guy that I think is one of, if not the fastest 97 shooters to ever play the game. And ever since then, I've been chasin' that guy all over the place tryin' to whoop him. Part of the beauty of our sport is that we get to meet people that we may never have crossed paths with otherwise....that person, I now call my friend.....Widder(I also call him lots of other things):) Widder is the reason "the bounty" was created and funds were raised for the fight against cancer. Gee, I always thought it was the shooter's responsibility to make that risk/reward decision. I never knew it was the job of a match director. I learn something new every day.
