Im a mule skinner but not a teamster. I pack mules in the mountains. I would love tho to get into driving. Mules can be very hard headed and require extra persuasion from a horse. But I had a Molly (Female) one time that was more light and nimble than a horse. I was packing into the Bob Marshall one time up by Danaher meadows with my daughters. I was packing the string of two mules. I was riding a knot head mare. She spooked and went to bucking and kicking down the trail. The piggin string broke (as it should) between the Molly and the John mule in the rear. But Mary Lou? She tip toed right along side me and I swear she pushed me back into the saddle a couple of times. Her lead rope never got taunt. She could have ripped me right out of the saddle. I had to put her down when she was 32 years old. Hardest thing I ever did. I bought her and the John mule called Benny from the Busted Ass Ranch sale in Arlee, Mt. Those two mules taught me more about packing than anybody or anything in my life. And unlike Mary Lou? Benny? There were not enough rocks in the world..... his transfer case was permanently stuck in low range. But they both would stand in a gut pile dead quiet and wait for you to load elk quarters on em! You could train young mules by tying em behind Mary Lou. When they tried to pass her on either side she would pick a foot up and warn them to get back in line. This is while she is walking down the trail loaded. If they did not heed the warning she would put a well placed double aught shoe right on the end of the nose. Ending the threat of a pile up. She was amazing and I miss her so much!

I visited my local hole in the wall liquor store today and the owners son, who I’ve known for years was there and he asked me why I only buy the cheap stuff (Aberlour 12) and I told him that I’m cheap and most of his other single malt scotch was to rich for my blood. So I complimented him on his single malt selection and told him that I knew of a slam dunk solution to his slow scotch sales. He was all ears then. A single malt scotch tasting event every Friday night says I!!! Jesus, the guy that is there 24/7 gives me a look like WTH are you talking about. So I told him about the wine tasting up at all of the vineyards out east of Temecula and up at Napa Valley and we could do the same here. Just imagine we could have limos, tour busses and Uber’s bringing scotch conoseurs from all over SoCal to sample your scotch selection, it would be wildly successful. I told him I’d be happy to be the head taster and select which scotch selections are sampled on each Friday night, he then got a look on his face like he had just smelled a flatulent but ever the promoter I pushed on and let him know that the wine tasting is only $5.00 or $10.00 a head and that scotch tasting could easily bring in $20.00 to $25.00 per head to sample four scotch selections. Well he says what would we do with all of the opened bottles that were not consumed and I then assured him that I would take care of that problem.

Generally not a great idea to chase after the criminal who now has your gun. This guy is lucky, but stupid.

So what’s the difference between the Firing Line and the Stage/Course of fire? The Stage is certainly part of the Firing Line, but not so the reverse. The Rules that apply to each are not the same. For example… a shooter can lower the hammer on guns at the Loading Table without approval from anyone… that certainly can not happen on the Stage. A shooter at the loading table with pistol in hand on half cock while loading can shuffle along as the line moves up without any penalty.. that can’t happen on the Stage. Ammo can be brought up to the Loading Table in just about any manner and is not considered “Illegal”, but that is not true on the Stage. If you think about it, there are a number of rules that apply to the Loading Table that differ from the rules that apply to the Stage/Course of Fire. The Loading Table and the Stage are indeed different Zones within the Firing Line. This fact is often over looked and the terms are often interchanged. Same goes for references to the R.O. when they really mean the Timer Operator/Chief R.O.. The Loading Table has, IMO, a great potential for a mishap. Everyone there is working and fiddling with Loaded guns and trying to concentrate on what they are going to do on the Stage. Loading Table officers are not always present to monitor the process. It seems that this position is often the first to go when trying to move a lot of shooters through the Course of Fire in a short period of time. Bottom line here is to be aware that the Loading Table and the Stage/Course of Fire are not the same, and though they share many rules, not all apply to each.

"Original Outlaw" Intentionally shoots first stage wrong, gets "arrested" and spends the rest of the day in the jail. "Dime Novelist" Does not shoot, doesn't even come to the range. Stays home and writes wildly fictional account of CAS. KIDDING! Only SASS categories but if someone wants to do something different at a monthly, I don't think anyone really cares.

And here I thought it would be Force Recon or Ranger training.

Every Memorial Day, Bishop Ca celebrates Mule Days. Back when I was stationed at China Lake we made it a point to attend. The years I went they had a 20 Mule team hitch in the parade. They had to make a left turn off US395 onto Sierra Street on their way to the Fair Grounds. Very impressive to watch them Jump the Chain so that the wagons can make the turn. Also impressive is the Pack scramble. Some exceptionally trained animals.

If a teacher takes on the responsibility of being armed to protect their students they should get a pay increase. An increase in responsibility is at very least commensurate to a pay raise. Good on them.

It's bothering me more and more lately, especially with all the new red flag laws being tossed about. I kind of wish we had a members only area just for that purpose. It's also been my opinion for a long time that the Saloon and the Classifieds should be members only and yes I mean must have a current SASS number to get to those forums.

Sounds like a great plan. Myself I never drink anything but 18+ year old scotch. I wouldn't want to get busted for statutory drinking.

Both have their merits - concealed mostly more so. Either way if a person wants to exercise their right so be it. However and wherever one does so they should be considerate of the people and surroundings. Respect goes a long way in our fight to defend our rights. GG

Funny story.............a pard of mine Johnny Shiloh wrote down "Old Fart Duelist" at Tusco when he turned 60. Johnny almost always wins his category or at least comes in second. When the awards were given, Senior Duelist came up and there was no Johnny Shiloh mentioned. He had a very puzzled look on his face, after all he shot good and also cleaned the match. The very last category mentioned was "Old Fart Duelist"!!! Johnny was #1 Split Rail (The match director) said he would recognize any category you write down! Too much fun!!!

My wife made some the other day but used zucchini in the place of the pasta and it was awesome, it sounded really weird to me but i really liked it. I love my wife

That video is priceless evidence that one should be aware of their surroundings at all times. It might not always be easy, but it is mandatory. Complacency leads to trouble.

Its benefits and detriments will be forever sworn at. So be it. Let my voice be this: My friends, if you do nothing else this time change, switch out the batteries in your smoke detector. I know what it is to go into what used to be a house, and on overhaul, find the smoke detector hanging open, the battery gone ... and on interrogation, the kids admitted to swiping the battery to run their video game, and didn't put it back, and that night when the fire broke out they lost everything but what they wore to bed.

Problem with guy wires is the tripping factor.

Instead of a wooden tongue, a chain is used. In a turn the inboard wheel mules are forced to jump the chain. Quite the process as 20 mules are quite long.

I prefer to carry concealed. Gives me a lot more options in that I get to choose what course of action is the best for me. In a given situation the best course of action may be to leave your firearm holstered. In addition to the obvious, you lose almost all your advantage if some other individual starts pointing at you and yelling for you to shoot the bad guy.

Now thats a damn fine idea!

Thought of another thing. Once you get the pole straight, do not tighten the clothes lines between the poles so tight there is a strain on the poles. My grandmother left about 12" sag in the lines on poles about 20' apart. She said tight lines not only put strain on the poles in the wind, the tight lines also cause the clothes to snap in the wind tearing the hems apart.

I carved this with my machine in cherry wood. It's 4' long and the photos don't really show the details with the mountains in the back ground. You can also see the people riding inside the coach, one a woman wearing a fancy hat.
