The resourcefulness and talent among SASS members never ceases to impress me. Chili Pepper Pete made this awesome vaquero jacket from a leather sport coat he bought second hand. He not only shoots well and is a World Champion but goes to a lot of effort to dress the part as well. When I started folks made their own stuff because there just was not a lot available. That lead to a lot of unique items on the range. This is just one example of the kind of stuff that separates us from the other shooting sports in a GOOD way. I think it's something to be celebrated.

One of my greatest memories is stopping a car on a busy street and walking up to the window. There the woman went off on me like I was a dog. After listening to her rant about how sorry cops were, and how I had no right to stop her, I reached up and handed her the purse she had left on the roof of the car. Without a word, I turned and went back to my patrol car...but I had a grin from ear to ear.

Same here. It has no meaning anymore. Nowadays a person could be called one for wearing white socks.

Be a spotter for several shooters. When you can anticipate where the next shots go, hand off the duty and get in line.

Well first let me say Welcome To The Game. There are quite a few different target arrays and sequences that you’ll run into the more you shoot CAS matches. The more often you shoot matches the quicker your brain will start making the connection to how our sport is tied at the hip, you might say to five shot patterns or sequences with the revolvers and most times lately the same with the rifle. I’m assuming your last question is in reference to Gunfighter, a revolver in each hand and at times the sequences can be a little harder to figure out. Buck D. Law puts out an excellent gunfighter tutorial that will aid you immensely should you choose the gunfighter persuasion. Whatever you do don’t get frustrated with a P (procedural) now and then, it happens to nearly all of us maybe all of us on occasion or in my case lately fairly often.

I got this rifle and two of the pistols and some metal targets, so I’m set up for some backyard CAS. Still can’t believe these things shoot BBs. They look and feel like the real thing. BTW, that’s not my video. Saves me from having to make one.

Dick’s Sporting Goods is being sued by a vendor claiming the Findlay-based retailer breached its contract in an ammunition agreement. Nevada-based Battle Born Munitions is seeking to recoup about $5.5 million in damages related to claims of fraudulent inducement and negligent misrepresentation in addition to breach of contract that started in 2016, when Dick’s allegedly failed to take delivery and pay for several orders of ammunition branded with the company’s trademarked Field & Stream logo. Battle Born said because the ammunition was branded, it could not be resold — forcing the vendor to store the order and incur “substantial costs” until Dick’s finally paid, according to the complaint. Dick’s Sporting Goods did not respond to a request for comment in time for publication. The complaint was filed in October in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. A judge recently denied a motion by Dick’s Sporting Goods to dismiss some of the allegations. Battle Born claims the delay tied up capital it needed to complete other business deals, including one to sell 12 Bell helicopters to the government of Lebanon, according to the complaint. The company is a registered broker in good standing with the U.S. Department of State International Traffic of Arms Regulation, the court documents state. Dick’s Sporting Goods has developed a contentious relationship with the firearms industry. Following the 2018 school massacre in Parkland, Fla., the retailer made several changes to its firearms policy, including deciding to pull modern sporting rifles from its 35 specialty Field & Stream locations. The company also said it would no longer sell high capacity magazines or sell firearms to anyone under 21 years old. Some organizations have cut ties with the company, including The National Shooting Sports Foundation, a trade group, and O.F. Mossberg & Sons, a firearms manufacturer. Please bear with me on this one. Searching the vastness of the Internet for items to post that may be of interest to the SASS Wire Saloon readers is time consuming but rewarding when you hit the nail on the head and find your task was successful. On some occasions though, I surprise even myself with what I uncover. Even rarer are those instances where starting one post leads to a more profound post. This is one of those instances. The original post was to look like this, a somewhat simple, but poignant joke. But as I researched for historical accuracy for the joke, and a possible picture to add, I uncovered a bit of history that I was completely unaware of. So I present to you the Dieppe Raid. Tommy Baker - 14th Canadian Armoured Regiment — Calgary Tanks On Aug. 19, during his first tour of duty, he was part of the landing force at Dieppe during the doomed operation in northern France. The beach landing was supposed to happen under the cover of darkness, but the Canadians, along with 1,000 British and 50 American soldiers, were late arriving on shore, and as the sun rose, they were left exposed to withering gunfire from German troops on the cliffs above. Five thousand (5,000) Canadian soldiers took part in the Dieppe Raid. Within hours, more than 3,000 were killed, wounded or taken prisoner. Baker was one of the wounded, being shot in the knee. "I had to wait until they took me off the beach," he said. "Then they took me back to England and I was in the hospital for a couple of days." Baker was just 16 years old when he joined the Calgary Tanks. His daughter, Sandee Baker, says he tried to join three times before getting his parents' approval. "He enlisted and his father said, 'you're too young,' and pulled him out.," she said. "Then he re-enlisted and his father pulled him out again, then on Feb. 14, he enlisted and grandpa said, 'if you want go and get yourself shot, you go right ahead.'" Baker was given a standing ovation for service in Dieppe during a ceremony, which highlighted how important the raid was to winning the Second World War.

Howdy and welcome! In my way of looking at things, which may be kinda weird, there's two basic ways of looking at any sequence. The first, we'll call the target number method, that is to say, look at it by the target number, so a double tap sweep on 3 targets could be spelled out as 1,1,2,2,3,3,2,2,1,1. The other I'll call the number target method (the terms are reversed you'll notice) In this method, you need to have the basic motion of the sweep down, which you kinda need to see the target array to do. You would then say how many rounds on each target as you go, that same double tap sweep would be spelled out as 2/2/2/2/2. Kinda helps to point at each target in turn as you think how many rounds go on that target. Confused yet? I go back and forth between the two depending on the stage, and yes, I've confused myself in doing so. For shooting styles other than gunfighter, it is very helpful to think of a 10 shot pistol string as two 5 shot strings, that way you know where to start on that second pistol. I have the Revolver, it's a very well made BB gun and lots of fun. Would be cool to do a winter league here in the frozen north at some sportsmans clubs that have basements but no indoor range.

Tried the straight trigger also and didn't like it so I bought a no bite trigger. Had only pinched my finger slightly over eight years maybe six times with the stock trigger. With the new no bite trigger I blead myself every other match and then I almost tore off a hunk of meat so, so much for the no bite trigger. Put the original back on.

I don't know the answer to that, but one of the reasons given to be a SASS member is that all SASS sanctioned matches would have the same rules. The SASS club should let us know what the rest of the story to set the record straight. Or SASS headquarters should follow up on it.

I'm still into camping heavily at 70. Just got back yesterday evening from our annual Big Tent winter campout: a son-in-law and I twelve years ago bought a Cabelas Alaknak 12' x 20' outfitter's tent. The wood stove it came with wasn't big enough so we bought a Four Dog steel stove from the eponymous maker in Montana. We go every year at least once for several days at a couple of sites where we can set up and XC ski in the immediate area, sometimes right out of the "front door". We take a passel of kids/ grandkids. We sleep in cots, including bunk cots, in toasty warmth after a day of skiing. Nothing like a crackling fire in a tent stove! We do a couple of car-camp outings every summer with the extended family, and one daughter and I, in particular, back pack several times per summer. We have a great system where the gear is always ready to go, so we can go at the drop of a hat. We do one-night overnighters, occasionally two-nighters. We always hike in the National Forests, rather than the National Parks; the big reason is that you can have campfires in the backcountry here in the Cascades. But not in the Nat'l Parks... Nothing like a campfire!
