  2. I met Non Stop a number of years ago at EOT in New Mexico and over subsequent EOTs I’ve got to know him as good as you can get to know someone seeing them once a year for 2-3 hours over a 5 day period or so. We kind of formed a friendship and last year at EOT we talked a lot about the Buffalo Soldiers and their roll in the old west. He showed me some pictures of some of the Buffalo Soldier artwork that he’s got in his house back in Texas. I had delivered the Blazing Saddles gun cart to some Texas folks the day before that he knew and I mentioned that a Buffalo Soldiers themed gun cart like that one might be pretty cool, he agreed. I told him that I’d probably build one someday. On the drive back home after EOT I thought about that a lot and working with a shooting pard of his, I got it built. The hard part was keeping it quiet so he’d be surprised at EOT, Misty Moonshine was kind enough to let me present it to him at the Grand opening Wednesday evening. I don’t know how it got omitted but Double Diamond deserves a whole bunch of credit on this build. The leather LOCAS, Regulator and all of the leatherwork was done by him. I call his work the makeup on a pretty lady, it just makes my work so much better.

  3. Visibility is key. It’s 2024 if your club doesn’t have a Facebook or other social media presence you’re not going to reach future shooters. Your club should be posting videos after every monthly match. Even during the off season. Your page should state when your club shoots, WHERE YOUR CLUB IS LOCATED WITH AN ADDRESS THAT CAN BE PUT IN A GPS. List any specific club rules, and a point of contact. Does your club have an annual match? Again it’s 2024! You need to be able to register online, and pay immediately. Young people will not print out an app, write a check, and mail an envelope.

  4. Howdy Wire Pards! I got to meet a SASS Wire hero tonight! @Garrison Joe, SASS #60708! He’s a super nice and humble guy - didn’t get why I was fawning over him and wanting a picture! He’s so knowledgeable about so many things! His posts and replies are kind and thoughtful. So, for those of you wondering what he looks like… here he is! Hugs!! Scarlett

  6. My pard, Forty, just called! When it rains, IT POURS!! He’s been fighting an infection for some time that has resisted all forms of oral medication. Until now, it has been a low grade form that has defied identification. Apparently, it has become bad enough that his doctors have decided to put him in the hospital and go at it aggressively with IV antibiotics! He’s one of the cowboys that has called to check on Schoolmarm and me, practically every day and sometimes more often! He won’t have access to a computer and his cell phone is steam driven with a kerosene boiler, so he’s virtually incommunicado! You guys pulled me ‘n’ Schoolmarm through our roughest time and I know what you can do!! PLEASE ! Offer up a prayer for one of the monuments in our community!! I will be checking with him daily to see how he’s doing and sending on the power of the prayers you have sent for us!!

  8. 99 times out of 100 the mountain lion would win. They are bigger and more athletic and they have more tools. Rottweilers would make a nice meal that they would jump over the fence with in their mouth. That said, a dog that stays on the attack Does have a chance! Two young sisters, Jolie and Sophie had gone to the fig tree on their farm to gather figs. Jolie climbed the tree and discovered a full grown mountain lion was already up the tree. She jumped down and injured her ankle, her sister tried to help her and they both ran back towards the farm house screaming. The puma couldn’t resist the easy prey and gave chase. The cat was just about on top of the girls about to make a kill, the girls had no chance. Except for their family dog had heard the trouble and came running. Morocco was a 90 pound Dogo Argentino, a capable dog breed used for hunting and protection. Morocho hit the lion at full speed and never let up his attack. The girls ran home and got their father Thomas. Thomas armed himself and went to the scene of the battle. He quickly found Morocho badly injured, clinging to life. Then he saw the mountain lion next to Morocho, it was dead. Thomas carried his beloved dog home and after 10 days of Intensive care, Morocho survived. He was always the hero of his family and community.

  9. The five member Burt family has really made a mark on the Cowboy Action Shooting scene. Captain Bill Burt started CAS in 2011 with the North Alabama Regulators and joined the Mule Camp Cowboys soon after. Shootin Sharyn his wife joined him for a short time and then dropped out for awhile and started CAS again a few years later and has since won several Georgia State titles. Captain Bill Burt has won four Georgia State Championships. In 2022 four out of the five of them won Georgia State Championships. Four of them traveled to EOT in Indiana in 2021 and 2 of them buckled, pretty nice accomplishment. With a family of 5 shooting, prepping for even a monthly match is no small endeavor and state and above matches really become monumental endeavors, look at these numbers for the Tennessee State match: 2 gun carts, one heavily overloaded 2,000 rounds 38/32 2 cases shotgun shells 20 guns, 10 Rugers, 5 Uberti 1873’s, 5 SKB SxS’s 17 loading blocks 5 gunbelt and holster rigs Clothes and cold weather gear for 5 lube and tools for guns And don’t forget the dog He reloads on a Dillon 650 and a Ponsness Warren 800+ shotshell press.

  12. In early 2017, Chicken George and his 3 boys, D Stroyer (12), Gut C Gunman (10), and Skrap P (7), started trying out CAS with their good friend and seasoned CAS shooter, Will Two-Gun Adams. The boys’ first match was End of Trail, shooting with borrowed guns (45 colts and a 12 g). Later that year they acquired a set of guns and the boys shot the NM state match. Gut C Gunman won his category. Chicken George just supported them and didn’t shoot anything real until Winter Range the following year. Quick Chick joined in late 2018, shooting Bordertown. Sweet K Oss was 7 for her first match, Winter Range 2019. Lil Miss B Haven started with Four Corners Regional 2022, at 6 years old. They usually just shoot for Regional, National, World and Bordertown. They don’t compete on Sundays so they haven’t been able to shoot at their State championship until last year when they were allowed to shoot through. They all won their category there, except Gut C Gunman, who moved up to Cowboy for that match so Skrap P didn’t have to compete with him. As a family of seven they love being able to shoot together, but it definitely doesn’t come without a lot of challenges. They all share guns, mostly three shooters per gun(s). To save costs, they made their own shotgun belts, and they work together to cast and coat all their bullets. Then Skrap P sizes them, D Stroyer loads the pistol and rifle ammo, Gut C Gunman loads the shotgun shells, and Chicken George thoroughly checks everything. Just loading ammo for a major match takes several weeks. At this last EOT, they took over 8000 rounds for 3 Wild Bunch shooters, warm up, speed events and the main match. When Skrap P and Sweet K Oss made it to the Wild Bunch Top Gun Shoot-off, they actually had to borrow ammo because they didn’t have enough.

  13. HIDE YOUR GUNS AND OTHER VALUABLES, LOCK YOUR HORSES AND WOMEN AWAY, GUARD YOUR WATER HOLES AND VALUABLE PROPERTY, AND PROTECT ALL OF YOUR TREASURES!!! FORTY ROD IS BACK!!!!! SERIOUSLY, MY THANKS TO ALL WHO WISHED ME WELL AND SENT PRAYERS UP TO THE BOSS. The virus is dead and I am still alive and kicking. I have several more afflictions to tackle but this one scared the bejabbers out of me. I have been very fortunate to have the BEST medical team anywhere, made friends of a few, and learned a lot from them all. Had a Chaplain pray with me and asked that this thing would be cured by the 20th of March. It was. They held me one more day to confirm that the virus was gone and to process the paper work and discharge me from the hospital. It was and they did. I haven't been a good man and not a religious one either, but I'm comfortable that prayer, sincerely offered and totally believed in, works. Thanks againg and God bless all of you. 4T

  14. Today I feel like a kid on Christmas morning. For over two years I’ve been waiting for a chance to buy some 32-20 brass. Two weeks ago I got emails from Starline and MidwayUSA that they had limited availability. Yesterday 700 pieces of brass arrived between the two. Now I have some reloading to do.

  15. Widder's birthday is today. Nearly a hunert years ago his Daddy was out in the waiting room when the Dr came out and told him, "I sure am sorry sir. We tried all we could try but he lived." Yep, Widder is so old he was one of the waiters at the last supper. He's also the only one I know who has an autographed copy of the Bible. It must've been a good childhood for him getting to play in the Sahara forest like he did. Widder is at the age where he's been there and done that, he just can't remember what it was. He still has all the females chasing him around though. The fact they're all female mosquitoes has no bearing on that fact. He is super talented though. For instance, he's the only one I know who can cough, fart, sneeze, and pee all at the same time. All jokes aside, we all like to make fun of Widder. Happy Birthday pard!

  16. I got rear-ended Wednesday morning. Then a second time, and a third, And a few more before the vehicle behind me succeeded in pitting me. Spun and flipped. I'm home, police report filed, seen the doc, got meds, insurance claim opened. So one might call it road rage, except road rage requires provocation, some reason to trigger an event. I did nothing to provoke an attack. It was an attack. Letting the Sheriff work it, providing what info I can. Today is a good day to be alive.

  18. For over 10 years I have refused to get a 44-40 caliber gun. Absolutely adamant I tell. LOL The 44-40 is a fiddley case, prone to bend easy, bottle neck rubbish and a bugger to expand and load and an extra step to crimp. Plus very easy to get mixed in with 45 colt. A person would have to be out of their mind to own one. Monday, I swing by to pick up some canvas loading bags I ordered from a nice lady. ( Jax Leather) and the husband said I looking to sell some sequential S/N Uberti 73’s all tricked out and a slicked up 73 Oct barrel Uberti steel ringer. (4speed w/posi traction and 3 duces) And he said “they are 44-40”. I picked up one pistol and my fingers would not move to the open position when I tried to set it down and walk away. I felt off balance so I picked up the other pistol. The same thing happened to the other hand. My first thought in times of stress is ‘God, grant me the courage to accept the things I cannot change’ The loading bags are great and very pleased. To keep this happy train rolling, I went to my local gun store this AM and they had a consignment NIB Starline 44-40 brass 500 count. (under a 100 bucks) This brass is gonna work really great in my new black powder SAS shooting irons. 44-40 of course. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it! SASS gives me more fun than any person should deserve.

  19. One of the things that I noticed and a lot of EOT attendees noticed this year was the increase in younger participants. There were a bunch of young people there, young from my saddle was 20ish and younger. I’ve heard different numbers and all of them were over 40!!!! I got to visit with some of the families of those kids and I posted pictures and I have to tell you they are a great bunch of kids. So what I want to do is create a thread on each family using information supplied by the parents with their support to tell the stories of these young men and women and how they came to be involved in Cowboy Action Shooting. I’m already getting feedback and some of the numbers are staggering in the number of firearms needed, gun carts, leather, and ammunition and on and on, it’s not a low cost endeavor by any stretch of the imagination, especially now days. To make this work I’d like to have all of you that know these individuals and families and have posseed with them tell about your experiences with them. Share some stories and help celebrate them playing the game that we all love. All you families with kids playing our game who would like to get the story out PM me and we’ll connect and I’ll give you my email address and get things started. I’d like to post action pictures so I’ll need those and I’d like you family members to join in also and keep the threads alive, maybe with current updates and match happenings. If you’ve got a story to tell about your kids or grandkids that have become adults let’s post those stories too. What do you think? Here are a couple of pictures of families that are going to help me get this started. The Chicken George family of shooters and the Mesquite Jenkins family of shooters.

  20. I found this on FB. A very good little article about dog ownership Everyone who is thinking of getting dogs should read this because you need to understand this reality: ***I am a 21st century dog.*** -I'm a Malinois. Overskilled among dogs, I excel in all disciplines and I'm always ready to work: I NEED to work. But nowadays I get asked to chill on the couch all day everyday. -I am an Akita Inu. My ancestors were selected for fighting bears. Today I get asked to be tolerant and I get scolded for my reactivity when another approaches me. -I am a Beagle. When I chase my prey, I raise my voice so the hunters could follow. Today they put an electric collar on me to shut up, and you make me come back to you - no running - with a snap of your fingers. -I am a Yorkshire Terrier. I was a terrifying rat hunter in English mines. Today they think I can't use my legs and they always hold me in their arms. -I'm a Labrador Retriever. My vision of happiness is a dive into a pond to bring back the duck he shot to my master. Today you forget I'm a walking, running, swimming dog; as a result I'm fat, made to stay indoors, and to babysit. -I am a Jack Russell. I can take on a fox, a mean badger, and a rat bigger than me in his den. Today I get scolded for my character and high energy, and forced to turn into a quiet living room dog. -I am a Siberian Husky. Experienced the great, wide open spaces of Northern Europe, where I could drag sleds for long distances at impressive speeds. Today I only have the walls of the house or small garden as a horizon, and the holes I dig in the ground just to release energy and frustration, trying to stay sane. -I am a border collie I was made to work hours a day in partnershipwith my master, and I am an unmistakable artist of working with the herd. Today they are mad at me because, for lack of sheep, I try to check bikes, cars, children in the house and everything in motion. I am ... I am a 21st century dog. I'm pretty, I'm alert, I'm obedient, I stay in a bag...but I'm also an individual who, from centuries of training, needs to express my instincts, and I am *not* suited for the sedentary life you'd want me to lead. Spending eight hours a day alone in the house or in the garden - with no work and no one to play or run with, seeing you for a short time in the evening when you get home, and only getting a small toilet walk will make me deeply unhappy. I'll express it by barking all day, turning your yard into a minefield, doing my needs indoors, being unmanageable the rare times I'll find myself outside, and sometimes spending my days sunk, sad, lonely, and depressed, on my pillow. You may think that I should be happy to be able to enjoy all this comfort while you go to work, but actually I’ll be exhausted and frustrated, because this is absolutely NOT what I'm meant to do, or what I need to be doing. If you love me, if you've always dreamed of me, if my beautiful blue eyes or my athletic look make you want me, but you can't give me a real dog's life, a life that's really worth living according to my breed, and if you can't offer me the job that my genes are asking, DO NOT buy or adopt me! If you like the way I look but aren't willing to accept my temperament, gifts, and traits derived from long genetic selection, and you think you can change them with only your good will, then DO NOT BUY OR ADOPT ME. I’m a dog from the 21st century, yes, but deep inside me, the one who fought, the one who hunted, the one who pulled sleds, the one who guided and protected a herd still lives within. So think **very** carefully before you choose your dog. And think about getting two, rather than one, so I won't be so very lonely waiting for you all day. Eight or ten hours is just a workday to you, but it's an eternity for me to be alone.

  21. I opened the garage door and entered the house through the garage this evening. I had a lot of items in my hands and digging out keys to unlock doors would be really difficult. When I got to the door to enter the laundry room, I could hear my little cat on the inside quietly meowing. When I walked in my husband said she started meowing as soon as she heard the garage door go up because she knew her mom was home. I made a point to give her extra scratchies when I could. The love of a pet is one of the best feelings you can have.

  22. Every stage in a match can’t and shouldn’t IMO favor a double shooter. I saw plenty of videos of right handed double shooters who didn’t have any issues with the amount of space given on that stage. While it may not have been the ideal amount for how you would like to have staged them, it was enough.

It will sell for sure, I just thought I’d discount it $100 per bottle from what a cowboy would have to pay on GB. If a cowboy doesn’t want it for that then I’ll post it on GB at full price and make more money !!!

  27. HOME AT LAST!!!! It took two plus hours to get her released!! All the paperwork and getting instructions from two separate therapists and the case manager took nearly an hour and then she had to wait on people to finally get around to gathering up her stuff and get her into the obligatory wheelchair for the ride to the front door for another hour!! Of all things, she decided that she wanted KFC for lunch on the way home!! She said that it’s the best chicken she’s had in a month!! There’s STILL a ways to go before she is really back to par, but she’s ecstatic to be home with her dog and her stuff!

  28. I just got off the phone with Schoolmarm! Today is celebration day! All the therapy people came into her room this morning. They had her pack up all of the stuff that she will be taking home, straighten up the room, take a shower, and put on fresh clothes! She is now through with physical and occupational therapy. It sounded like she had a decent breakfast, but said that lunch was rubber chicken, and she wasn’t gonna eat it. She is ready to be home, and we are both excited to be finally returning to some semblance of normalcy!

  30. That's today. She got up about 0400 to use the necessary, when she came back to bed I greeted her with We got up, started the coffee and turned on the news to get information about the Baltimore Bridge I asked if she wanted to go out for breakfast. She said she didn't, but really wanted pancakes. Made a batch at about 0700. She went to the Tuesday Crochet and Cards at the clubhouse at 1100. I did dishes and such. She came home after only about 75 minutes, wanted to go to Taco Bell. As we were on the way I said something about wondering which way to go, at that time of day there isn't any way to get there.....or anywhere in town....that's not a PITA...so she said, "OK, Burger King, McDonald's, I just want to get out and have something different." BK it was. "Ooooo.....tacos, 2 for $2!" she said as we pulled into the drive through. So be it. Those things are pretty good ! As we were waiting I asked if she wanted to go out to Bodega Head. "Yes!!" Away we went. Told her that I wouldn't want a taco until we were on Hwy 12 West. "But feel free to go ah..."(CRUNCH)"had and start," I said as she bit into one. Then had to not snort crisp tortilla out her nose. Got out to Bodega Head....a beautiful N. California drive through some truly gorgeous country which she kept commenting on....and as we were standing there letting the bracing sea breeze (wind about 15, temperature about 58) wash through us I started to take out my phone to get a few pictures, stopped and told myself to just enjoy. Then she said, "Look atthecolors!" Now, she is working on a Crochet "temperature blanket." One row for each day, different color for each 10 degrees, high and low temperature, and some calculations for how many stitches for day and night so there won't be a straight line down the middle. Kinda cool. One of the tools she has is a program that will take an image and generate a color palette for it in however many colors you want. She's already planning the blanket for next year. I looked around and pulled out the phone to capture the colors. She should be able to get some good colors out of those . Only downside is that she has lost enough weight over the last. 6 months that her shoes are loose, so her feet slipped a little in her shoes, took a tumble on the sandstone, got some scrapes and scratches. Nothing serious. But even that had an upside...within about 10 seconds 4 or 5 people were there to help get her up, grab her cane, purse, and hat off the ground, asking if she was OK. Even with the fall she says she has had a great day.

  32. Here’s the latest from 4T!! They seem to have found some answers. The infection is viral, as opposed to bacterial and is in his bloodstream. From what I gathered in our conversation tonight, they’re treating him with appropriate IV medication. The outlook is now more positive. He says that they might have him out of the hospital by this coming weekend. He also told me that his local network of friends is caring for his little dog, that he’s receiving excellent care and attention, and that folks he’s spoken to are giving him some new places to dine and reminding him of some that he’d forgotten! This last item indicates to me that he is on the road to recovery because when he’s thinking of places to eat, he intends to go and try them out!! He said that I should warn all of you that he ain’t that easy to get rid of!!

  34. well I forgot my pants and misplaced an SKB which turned out I had left in Louisiana. RRR bought a new gun safe that fit in the back of his truck. We had to go to Lowe and get a saw, blades and batteries to saw it open as the keys were in Baton Rouge. TB slept outside 3 nights as the other guy sharing a bedroom had a bad cough and was very loud. somebody left their pistols in the rent house and we had to get them before we could start that day. we had another buddy whose ammo he purchased at the match caused him 9 misses. and another pal had some powder ignite from an old charge in a cap and ball pistol at the loading table when he was clearing the cylinder. i ejected two live rounds from my rifle and had to make them up. I bought two pair of 357s and have now decided to shot 45s. We all had a fantastic time and great memories. and I found my pants !! Irish ☘️ Pat

  35. That too would be ruined… Over heard at a dueling match: 1. “The target is too far away. We need the targets closer!” 2. “Well, if you want to win you need an original maker pistol slicked up by Mad Mac McSingleshot. Not one of those Chinese clones.” 3. “These garments are too heavy.” 4. “These garments are too light.” 5. “He’s using loads that are outside rule parameters. I can tell. 6. “The sun is always in my eyes at these matches. That’s why I never win.” 6. “These aren’t sunglasses! These are Transitions lenses. There’s a difference!” 7. “Hey, he’s not using mouse fart loads! That stung!” 8. “Why can’t we use rifles? This is two to three times the distance of rifle targets in regular matches! 9. “They didn’t wear protective gear in 1880. Why do we need it now?” 10. “They need to restrict this to .32 caliber maximum. Those .45 caliber wax bullets are too much.” 11. “I want his wax formula tested. I think he’s using straight paraffin. That was banned!” 12. “I am tired of these wax gamers. We need a standard formula!” 13. “I think he’s opened his primer pockets too far and he’s using magnum primers. This is unfair! We need standards for primer pocket hole sizes.” 14. “I remember when this game was fun. The Gamers took over and ruined it!” 15. “Hey! Short people have an advantage! Their targets are closer so they have a better hit ratio. We need standardized dueling distances!” Otto sux!

  36. I wasn't there this year or last(did I hear someone say, yay) but for what it's worth: Conventions say long guns staged on a table will be staged FLAT on the table. It's true that SPECIFIC stage instructions stating otherwise can over rule that convention;however, "staged anywhere safely" is not a specific instruction that would override that convention. That phrase is used quite often when the stagewriter wants to convey that the shooters can stage a particular firearm at any one of several possible locations. In order to override that convention, the instructions would have to be specific to that convention. I.E. "Shooter may stage the long gun on the 2x4, or long gun may be propped up on rail, or something SPECIFIC like that. Otherwise the shooter would be able to stage the long gun flat but really far back on the table, or have the rifle kick-standing up on a saddle ring. To disallow ALL of that, they would ALL have to be addressed in the instruction. That'd be lunacy. Bottom line to me with THIS situation is the stagewriters, match officials, prop and stage builders only have so much they can be responsible for. They can't ultimately hold each Posse Marshals hand. If they could do that, they wouldn't need them in the first place. The officials can give direction and make a reasonable attempt to make sure all parties understand what's conveyed to them. They can take note of what problems they have with a Posse Marshal, or prop, etc to make whatever change is necessary to keep it from happening again. This is a good group putting this match on and they have shown they're not afraid to make changes to put on a better match. I have confidence they'll continue to do so.

  38. If the world you live in doesn't suit you, you have four choices: 1. Suck it up and live with it the way it is. 2. Change yourself to make a better fit. 3. change to world to fit you. 4.Kill yourself. 1. Will leave you sad, lonely. and bitter. 2. Is easier than you might imagine. You might not need big changes and may have to settle for a partial fix. 3. Can be done to a certain degree, and I have done it many times, again sometimes settling for a partial solution. (Note: it is often possible to work 2 and 3 together to get the results that work best) 4. Is a cowards way out and leaves no one satisfied.

If we make blanket generalizations - “SASS is dying” (it’s not based on the number of new shooters buying ammo from me to get started and what I see where I go). Or, “young people” aren’t interested then we get what we get - what we deserve. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. Everywhere I go if the opportunity arises, I tell people what I do and if there’s a club near them, I tell them! Spread the word near and far! It’s the most fun EVER and when people see it, they see how much fun we are having and want to play too! Hugs! Scarlett

  40. Couple of rough but fun props for this weekend. The 'TNT' plunger is spring loaded, would have been fun if it had detonated a primer

  41. Springtime in the Rockies, right? We got an upslope snowstorm...still in progress...along the Front Range, including Denver & vicinity. At lease 18 inches according to the TV, and I think more like 24"...so far. Supposed to snow all night! At 81-1/2 there is no way I'm ridin' down coronary gulch trying to shovel that stuff off my front porch, much less the driveway. Dogs started barkin' looking out the front storm door. It's our neighbors five of them with snow blowers and shovels, clearing out most of the white stuff! Can't ask for better than that! Will have to do something for them...probably Easter baskets with some goodies in them that my wife likes to put together. Supposed to stop tomorrow, and then warm up into the 50's and 60's next week. Glad we live on relatively high ground. Folks downhill might need to consider buying a boat when it all melts!

  42. WELL!! I’m home!! They let me go about 4:00 this afternoon. My meds were ready at the pharmacy and Hatfield took me to get a couple of things to eat and we were here by 6:00pm!! The foot specialist got to the hospital just as they finished my release paperwork and she changed the bandages and set me up for follow up visits to keep it healthy and healing properly. I still have a good ways to go to get “back on my feet”, but I feel like the road is shorter now than it has been!! We’re gettin’ closer, folks!! Y’all have helped more than you can imagine!!
